One of the largest solar flares of Cycle 24 thus far has taken place around Sunspot 1121. It registered M5.4 and has triggered a minor radio blackout. Stay Tuned for more information.Sunspot 1121 (Old 1112) is not a large sunspot in the sense of dark cores, however it is magnetically complex and producing C-Class and M-Class activity. There will be an ongoing chance for M-Class flares. As this region continues to rotate into better position, it may be lined up for possible earth directed CME's should the flare activity continue.

As of the time of this posting, www.spaceweather.com is projecting an 85% chance of M-Class Flare ins the next 24 hrs (and 20% chance of X-Class). The spot generating this activity (same as referenced above) is currently rotating towards us.
