Granted, this is not from The Soul Train, but from The Midnight Special. (I never cared much for the lyrical version of this song, which, I am well aware, there is a live version on The Soul Train).

The sonic expressions and juxtaposition of elegance, restraint, and bursting passion -- all in sychnronistic harmony with each other -- often brings tears to me eyes when I hear this.

Here's something a little more on the blues side ... one of my faves ... interesting, rapper does a blues album ... and wins!

Whitey Ford sings the blues ... Everlast with, "What it's like" ... a little ... "untraditional blues", but the lyrics are brilliant.

More proto-punk than soul, yet historically noteworthy as being the first, if not one of the first, like America's brilliant Chambers Brothers, multi-racial rock groups to have achieved a level of public notoriety in musical-based expressions. Please correct me should I be inaccurate :o) And yes -- Eddie Grant was one of the members of this 1960s group! :o) He's the pushy-puller. Also worth noting -- there is no bass guitar.

The Equals (Jamaica, England), 'Baby Come Back': song ending relatively at 2.39; and nothing to do with the Players song of the 1970s :o)

s0saLJ4azDk

I am actually gob-smacked that American artist Bonnie Raitt recorded this song. Bonnie and her group did a remarkable job on the 1982 Green Light album:

Consider this a station break.

In 1978, at the chronological linear age of 12, in this particular incarnation in the computation Matrix, I owned the soundtrack to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Such was in double-album form, but the first sleeve housed a 45rpm single, the second, chosen musical passages of the soundtrack in L.P. form. I wore out both, but the 45rpm I wore out more extensively. During this year I went on an extended tour with my mother and step-father and got to see Devil's Tower close up. What a thrill this was! :o)

Odd thing: none of the rangers at Devil's Tower mentioned Spielberg or the film. Additional oddity: crows circled above Devil's Tower, continuously; at least, when I was there. No doubt there is a vortex in this area.

Pop groups aside, I really enjoy a lot of the albums jazz artists put out during the 1970s, mixing jazz with funk, soul, and disco. This is one such album:
