There is a page on bibliotecapleyades.net written in 1996 by Paul White, titled Ancient Egypt ~ Link with Australia (http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/esp_australia02.htm).

Part or all of the page is reproduced on many other websites on the Net. It contains the following stories:

Egyptian hieroglyphs found in New South Wales

The hieroglyphs tell the tale of early Egyptian explorers, injured and stranded, in ancient Australia. The discovery centers around a most unusual set of rock carvings found in the National Park forest of the Hunter Valley, 100 km north of Sydney.

These are also known as the Gosford Glyphs or the Kariong Egyptoid. However there is enough evidence to satisfy me that they are all modern forgerie (http://donsmaps.com/hoax.html)s. Note that the cartouches have square corners and some hieroglyphs are either anachronistic or drawn wrongly or face the wrong way. The culprit, an old Yugoslav man, was discovered and his chisel confiscated!

The Gympie Pyramid and Ape

A stone ape statue possibility 3000 years old. The statue was unearthed in 1966 on Mr Dal K. Berrys Wolvi road property. The ape is made of conglomerate iron stone and shows a squatting ape figure. It is believed to represent the Egyptian God Thoth in ape form. A smaller stone idol unearthed near the Gympie Pyramid is also believed to represent the Egyptian God Thoth in ape form clutching the Tau or the Cross of Life.

This one's a bit harder to explain, but at least it's in a museum. The pyramid site has been badly damaged but there's a group investigating what's left of it - not much IMO. There is conflicting evidence as to its origin - may have been erected by an Italian farmer in the 1880s! Here are more recent links:

http://www.nondomesticatedthinker.com/2010/05/egyptian-hieroglyphs-in-australia/
(these links all contain fresh information so are worth skimming through)

Even though I'm from Australia, I didn't know about the Gympie pyramids last time I passed thru (it's a long way from here). So you'll have to visit and see for yourself.

Toowoomba (Queensland) and other locations
There are numerous anecdotes with no supporting images, making it difficult to decide how much authenticity to ascribe to these findings. I would be interested in reports from fellow Aussie forum members on any of these findings. Much of this work is pre-Internet so will be in libraries, not online. It needs to be expanded and described in detail.

Many thanks - very useful. Having read the information on http://donsmaps.com/hoax.html it does seem pretty probable that the carvings were hoaxed.

I was given photos of these hieroglyphs, and their exact location, a couple of years ago. They certainly look very convincing to the untrained eye, and don't appear modern at all. But a researcher would have to go to the site in person to examine how the lichen has grown... etc. This is what the http://donsmaps.com/hoax.html page describes.

Not ancient by any means, but there's a lot of Egyptian symbolism in the placing of many of the public buildings in my home town of Perth....

Check out the links and send yourself blind! :d

Also heard rumours of a large Pyramid under Perth, but there's no proof and only seen one reference to it anywhere, so who knows probly a hoax....

Hi Jcocks,
I also recall the discover of a pyramid several kilometres underground being announced on the 6.00pm news in the mid 1980's, by use of some sonar / radar equipment but nothing more was ever said about that.
I thought that such major find would have been followed up but instead quickly became yesterday news, I've searched the net about this in the last year but have come with nothing.

All hail google books!

Have a read of this, very short mention in the excerpt of this book but oh so very interesting!

http://books.google.com.au/books?id=FD3Vsw8JnhUC&pg=PA117&lpg=PA117&dq=perth+underground+pyramid&source=bl&ots=17gyQtllEa&sig=QzK8beGWS2RmfhTuKNSI8BkX9xM&hl=en&ei=WM0GTYejN8nsrAemyKilCQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=perth%20underground%20pyramid&f=false

Apparently it was dubbed " The lost city of Asteroth" - it was 5km underground (too deep to dig up)....

Also worth noting that Perth is the closest city in the world to the 33rd parrallel.....

Didn't expect such a good response, especially from fellow Aussies. Big thanks to all!

These days, discerning readers expect more than anecdotal evidence. They expect to see images (easy to upload), maps and measurements. Even better, good quality and balanced videos, such as the PA interviews. Thanks Bill for your objectivity - this is PA's main attraction IMO.

Obviously no one person can marshall all the evidence, and no one person should, otherwise bias creeps in. We all see one-person blogs that allow no other point of view. To get to the bottom of all this stuff we've gotta expose it, then compare, compare, compare.

Very interesting post.
I am currently in Tasmania and will be here until 6th January.
Does anyone here know of any places of interest here worth exploring? I, that is my partner an I, have covered about 5000kms since we arrived. There is some cave art on the western side of the island but it is only accessible by boat, and we don't have one of those!
However, there has been one feature that for a while really got us going in a place called the Fingal Valley, and it's called St Patricks Head. This land feature looks, from a distance, identical to a pyramid:

Does anyone know anything more about this pyramid shaped hill? Not a shape you expect to find in such a prehistoric landscape...
Looks less like the perfect pyramid closer up, but still curious.

Tasmania is a place about which little is said and not much exploring has taken place either from what I can gather.
