US actress Debbie Reynolds dies grieving for daughter Carrie Fisher
33 minutes ago
Debbie Reynolds, who starred opposite Gene Kelly in the 1952 musical Singin'
in the Rain, has died a day after the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher.
The US actress, 84, had been rushed to hospital with a suspected stroke.
Her son, Todd Fisher, said the stress of his sister's death had been too much
for her and in her last words, she had said she wanted to be with Carrie.
US actress Bette Midler said Reynolds was "devoted to her craft" and that her
death was "too hard to comprehend".
Actress Debra Messing said Reynolds, her on-screen mother in sitcom Will
and Grace, had been an "inspiration".
"A legend of course," she wrote in a statement. "The epitome of clean-cut American
optimism, dancing with Gene Kelly as an equal, a warrior woman who never stopped working.''
For Star Trek actor William Shatner, Reynolds was one of the last of the Hollywood royalty.

Died of a broken heart.
Yes, you are most probably right.
I think I would pass too if my daughter were to die before me. Of a broken heart. Even though I know we are to meet in the soul, motivation to be on earth would certainly become nil.

Tribute to Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in their iconic roles
Mother-and-daughter stars Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher are being
remembered through cartoons depicting their best-loved characters.
A day after the death of Star Wars heroine Fisher, her mother, Singin'
in the Rain star, Reynolds, also died.
One of the most widely shared cartoons, attributed to the artist Ricky
LaChance, shows both actors standing arm-in-arm and looking toward heaven.
"Adding two more stars to the heavens," wrote one Instagram user. A
Twitter commentator said it was "so beautiful, the perfect memorial"
Illustrator Norio Fujikawa also depicted the actors in their trademark
roles - as Princess Leia in Star Wars and Kathy Selden in Singin' in the
Rain - sharing a black umbrella.
