.
I have heard reports of this happening before to others, but now I have a documented case of it myself.
I subscribe to a number of Youtube channels, including the Dark Journalist and a variety of channels talking about computers.
As of the time I write this, the Dark Journalist's interview of Bill Ryan has been up on his channel for five hours. It's a great interview, and I've already listened to it.
But Youtube is not displaying that video on the list of new videos available on the channels I subscribe to. I have scanned the list of new videos available to me on the channels I subscribe to several times in the last 3 or 4 hours (doing some boring tax work, and looking for a pleasant distraction.) Bill's interview has not yet showed up there any of those times.
That list of newly available subscribed videos is (usually) critical to my finding new material on the channels I follow. I subscribe to nearly 60 channels (most of them rather inactive, fortunately), and I certainly am not going to click through each and every one of those 60 channels to see if they have a new video up. Many Youtube users do this, and it is a rather effective way for Youtube to suppress the audience for a new video by not showing it on the list of new videos available to those subscribed to that channel.
Here are two screen shots.
The first screen shot shows the Dark Journalist's Youtube channel, with Bill Ryan's (now 5 hour old) interview as the top video available. That screen shot also shows that I am subscribed to the Dark Journalist's Youtube channel.
The second screen shot shows the new videos availble to me, over (supposedly) all the Youtube channels that I am subscribed to, going back 17 hours. That screen shot should show the Dark Journalist's interview of Bill Ryan. It does not.
