Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
Whatever visual form that has changed it for you. Or that fellow member Kodokan put it, "Started it all for me." I was thinking about this earlier while doing some research. I thought if I could see what film has impacted you the most, maybe I could get the deepest and most honest look at topics I feel that we may have in common. I'm still working on what film has impacted me the most, but so far this short doc on YouTube has been "awakening" me in a way that just makes me feel so...I don't know, alive, I guess? It's awesome! And I want to keep feeling it, so post away!

This film, which I posted in frankstien’s great thread of documentaries, is one that recently “opened up the top of my head”!
Quote:
This German film with English subtitles is intriguing and presents a vast inter-connected system... fascinating.
The Net: The Unabomber, LSD and the Internet (FULL)
Quote:
The Net explores the complex back-story of Ted Kaczynski, the infamous Unabomber. An inquiry into the rationale of this notable figure situates him within a late 20th Century web of technology - a system that he grew to oppose. Incorporating a subversive approach to the history of the Internet, the documentary combines speculative travelogue and investigative journalism to trace contrasting counter cultural responses to the cybernetic revolution.
For those who resist these intrusive systems of technological control, the Unabomber has come to symbolize an ultimate figure of refusal. For those that embrace it, as did the early champions of media art like Marshall McLuhan, Nam June Paik, and Stewart Brand, the promises of worldwide networking and instantaneous communication outweighed the perils.
Working through themes of utopianism, anarchism, terrorism, and providing insights on the CIA, LSD, Project MK-ULTRA, Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, Dammbeck provides a fascinating view of the wider picture of the most famous neo-luddite.
Happy viewing :happy dog:

For anyone who's never heard of this, this is one of the most important documentaries I've ever seen. HIGHLY recommended.
It's about how the US freedom movement in the 1960s and 70s was hijacked by big business, guided by SRI (Stanford Research Institute) research. The US Government had to find a solution — which they did, and it was implemented.

Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
So so many, but if I had to pick one, just one, it would have to be:
Everything is a Rich Man's Trick.
Authoritatively written and narrated by Francis Richard Conolly, the film begins its labyrinthine tale during the era of World War I, when the wealthiest and most powerful figures of industry discovered the immense profits to be had from a landscape of ongoing military conflict. The film presents a persuasive and exhaustively researched argument that these towering figures formed a secret society by which they could orchestrate or manipulate war-mongering policies to their advantage on a global scale, and maintain complete anonymity in their actions from an unsuspecting public. Conolly contends that these sinister puppet masters have functioned and thrived throughout history - from the formation of Nazism to the build-up and aftermath of September 11.
Not completely correct (I don't think) with each and every conclusion it draws, but it is still absolutely jaw-dropping.
Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
There was a video online by a youtube user that went by the name "ComputerBooter150" I believe.. (I will check this before I post the link..
I had already gotten to the point where I had no trust in governments, and I began to look into the possibility of et. And this video changed my life.
It is a bit "new agey..." and not my favorite type of video, but I did watch it all, and voted at the end. And 2 weeks later I rewatched it, to give it another chance, if indeed it was possible, and my life changed forever.
I have later found online that this started out as something written, not as a video.. And that there were people that doubted its integrity. And some that supported it.. All I can tell you is what followed that second watching of the video? Changed my life in profound ways..
Here you go.. https://youtube.com/watch?v=6PafHJZ2Itk

Just finished watching this! I was especially fascinated the role of mind control/LSD played. And he had every right to be paranoid! Great choice, thanks Cara!

I clicked on this thread to share the documentary posted by Bill above, to see he’s already beaten me to it :sun:
But really, if you’ve not watched this yet, make it a point to do so. This documentary is accurate in so many ways, and tells the narrative as straight as a phone book reading of numbers.
Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
Just finished "The Century of Self." One of the most haunting lines went something like, "...went from creating an identity to buying one." This was really easy and interesting, I too recommend it! :P

There are so many I'm not sure where to begin, but James Corbett's important and quite relevant documentaries on oil come to mind.

This is another excellent documentary, posted by scotslad in its own thread: [Documentary] The Spider's Web: Britain's Second Empire
Among other things, it deals with the money flows through the City of London and Britain's offshore tax haven territories.

Apologies if this has been posted before. An excellent expose of how the City of London Corp (within the city of London) have manipulated the financial markets and in particular - tax havens to dominate the global financial markets in secrecy as the British Empire has reduced in size over the years, it has still held dominance in the financial markets by using secrecy and complexity in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Gibraltar and British Virgin islands.
Also interesting in the context of BREXIT with EUROPE wanting greater transparency and a central world register of offshore companies and Trusts, which the British Establishment don't want to follow especially after the release of the Panama Papers et al.
A good quote shared in the video "Ordinary People Pay Taxes. The Rich Do Not."
Worth getting a coffee, and getting comfy in your favourite chair for this one. Quite enlightening :)
For a lightly veiled fictional retelling of some aspects of this, I recommend the series The Worricker Trilogy:

About the Show
2013
Page Eight, Turks & Caicos, and Salting the Battlefield form The Worricker Trilogy—three gripping films that follow the exploits of the intensely private and scrupulous Worricker—from MI5 headquarters in London to exile on a Caribbean island to life on the run with his former lover and fellow agent Margot Tyrrell (Helena Bonham Carter). A spy who prefers the black-and-white certainties of the Cold War, Worricker (Bill Nighy) finds himself increasingly out of his element as the distinction between ally and enemy dissolves into the amorphous alliances of the 21st century.
The all-star cast includes Oscar winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter), and Oscar® nominees Winona Ryder (Little Women, The Age of Innocence), Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech, The Wings of the Dove), Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient, Schindler’s List), and Judy Davis (Husbands and Wives, A Passage to India). Also starring are Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Saskia Reeves (Wallander), and Ewen Bremner (Black Hawk Down).

Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
I've posted this on the forums before and I keep forgetting to re post it here:
There are a lot of reasons why this is my favorite documentary ever. I've always been fascinated in the mind, emotions, and how happiness works. My teens through 20's were not a nice time in my life. I couldn't cope. I found this documentary in my early 20s, it didn't fix anything immediately but it demonstrated to me why I was having trouble coping and constantly feeling depressed. It showed me a better way to live my life. It was a catalyst of sorts. Life's much better now because of it, it still isn't all sunshine and rainbows (as Rocky would say) but it doesn't weigh me down.

Totally agree, in fact anything by British documentarian Adam Curtiss is well worth watching - and may well be paradigm shifting! I remember after watching the Century of the the Self it was as if a veil had been lifted and I was able to see the 'Wizard' operating the controls. As a Psyche major and fan of Freud, it was doubly interesting to learn about Edward Bernays (Freud's nephew and a key inspiration of Dr. Joseph Goebbels!!) and his tale of 'Public Relations'. To paraphrase - before Bernays you bought a Chevrolet because it was cheap and reliable; after him you bought it because it had a long hood that reminded you of a powerful penis. Gotta love a story like that!!;)
Cheers,

Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
I just watched 'The Great Hack' on Netflix. It seeks to examine the Cambridge Analytica fiasco after the Trump election in 2016 and exposes the stunning amount of information on vast numbers of citizens that the Social Media & modern retail industries have, and how it can be used to essentially completely undermine (hack) democracy.
I'd also recommend the 'interview' of Yuval Noah Harari by Zuckerberg. Stunning to see Harari run circles around Zuckerberg. Harari's view of this data issue is startlingly clear headed and Zuckerberg's obtuseness (whether or not it is deliberate) is equally alarming.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Boj9eD0Wug8&t=150s
<Start of rant> If the international community doesn't get a handle on this issue soon, the 'elites' - whoever they are are -will be able to quite easily control the whole planet within decades (if not sooner).
The mass of unconcerned consumers of Social Media, Google & Amazon will unwittingly be led to the pasture where they will consume and be consumed as required by those pulling the levers.
It seems very clear that individual nations are completely unable to handle the Social Media giants. Recently the Canadian Government ordered Facebook to police some of it's content within Canada, Facebook basically responded with 'No! Mind your own Business!'
Where is the international body to police Facebook and it's social media relatives? Not at all clear that the UN is equipped/interested in ths role.
<End of Rant>
Sorry - had to get that off my chest!!!:o

Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
I cannot find any of these videos anymore, which seems strange...
The videos that changed it all for me were Max Igen's 210+ ten minute videos that explored every aspect of the global conspiracy. At first I could not understand how someone could know so much. Then I thought this was the beginning of the great disclosure. Then I realized it was just one guy who had devoted himself to uncovering the truth.
The pieces he revealed lead me to Avalon eventually. I don't go anywhere else on the web anymore and am not a member of any other group.
I've found my home.

Thanks for the suggestion Kotch! I'm excited to watch it and have got it on que right now. I'll let you know what I think.
Oh and also, did you know you could embed YouTube videos in your posts? Ignore me if you already knew this but if you didn't, there's a little button (shown in the image button) that you can click, put the image link between the brackets, and blam-o, you have it in your post! :)

Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
Took a quick look but could not find them at that site.
They were numbered 1 - 210, and then some more came out. Each were ten minutes long. They covered every imaginable topic, and I mean every topic. The narrator was anonymous. Only realized years later it sounded like Max. I may be wrong.
I accidentally ran across the vids when there were already well over a hundred of them.
After that I used to wait at the edge of my seat for the next one. Every few days there would be another installment. I thought for sure this was the uncovering of the truth I'd waited my whole life for. It had the air of authority, that could be dismissed for any one of the videos but not the entire string of them.
It would have been around 2005 - 2010, or so. He was so convincing I continued my search from the list of notes I had taken. Soon they lead to Bill and Kerry...
Re: Your Most Meaningful Movies/Short Films/Documentaries/YouTube Videos?
I'm suspect about documentaries, because I collected many ..
just for the sake of record, I indicate a snippet (4 min + 3 min) from one of the most impressive series ever made by BBC (David Attenborough)
Nature's Great Events - The Great Tide (ep-4/6)
A mighty army of dolphins, sharks, whales, seals and gannets hunt down the billions of sardines along South Africa's east coast each winter. This is the sardine run: an underwater armageddon, the greatest gathering of predators anywhere on the planet, and the most spectacular event in the world's oceans.

This has been posted elsewhere, but I felt compelled to re-post. If the ability was there to forcibly make you watch one video, even by tying you to a chair, it may very likely be this one. A superb interview, with Icke in majestic form.
It's a long one though, so, turn off your phone, pull up a chair, and engage. It is, as they say, a doozie.
