Joys of winter - worth to look at
Here are the "joys"!! of winter this morning in Montreal.
Really worth to look at, quite incredible (at the end a police car gets into a city bus and a huge grater gets into the police car).
This thread if for all the happenings related to weather in both hemisphere this coming winter. Fun happenings and not so fun.

After living in Detroit, Michigan for many years I am grateful to reside in the deep south. ;) It is indeed a helpless feeling to lose control of your car, but thankfully we never hit anything but ditches. haha. At least everyone was willing to help everyone else.
Having been in Michigan for 10 days we awoke to news that Detroit was suffering the effects of the worst winter there in 75 years. Let me tell you, a poor young man from Alabama was certainly on edge. It took but one peek outside to know I wasn't going to work that day. Cars were not definable to make or model, just huge humps of snow. So, back to sleep. About an hour later the boss calls, "hey, you coming in to work". WHAT? Didn't realize that outside my little apartment area the roads were cleared. Yes, the southern boy was the laughing stock in the office that morning. Following that day, the high temperature of the day was -10 degrees for two weeks. When the temp came up to around 30 degrees neighbors were out in t-shirts, enjoying the heat wave. ;)
The only thing I miss about snowy Detroit are the Greek restaurants.

Thanks, Flash! One can't help laughing at the sliding of the snow off the roof!! The second video was most interesting as I had never seen that type of snow removal.

yes that kind of snow removal is the norm in Montreal, plus the trucks going around pouring salt everywhere while pushing the snow aside and the little machines doing the sidewalks. I am surprised you do not have similar stuff in Central New York, you must still have quite a lot of snow.

Enjoyed the videos, Flash! Yes, we get snow here, but this is rural living & I've only seen just the usual snowplow type. Have no idea what they might use in a big city like Syracuse! Made in China! What isn't?!!

End of winter season??? WAIT! not yet!!!
My car parked on the street looks like a big bulb of ice cream - lots of shoveling to do.
My work place is closed.... few highways are closed, train schedules are all off schedule, airports is basically closed.

I grew up in New England and remember that kind of snow too well. So glad I live in Florida now. A few winters ago we had a bad cold spell in Florida. It flurried in Daytona Beach, which made "breaking news" on the local TV networks.
Re: Joys of winter - worth to look at
Minus 30 Centigrade tonight = minus 22 Farenheit in Montreal
It is coooooold man!
i shoveled for one hour the snow accumulated 2 days ago, gosh I am cold, even working hard physically does not warms you up

Wow Flash. It's only a balmy 4 centigrade today in the winter sunshine. Had a little snow yesterday, and was scraping the car this morning. But minus 30... ouch.

Well LadyM I think I might be the opposite. I lived in Florida for a while and I found the humidity down there so debilitating. I have no idea how you cope with it tbh. I love NE, and much prefer that climate! hehe different strokes...

Here too. I received my electric/heating bill. It’s more in line with February & March figures. I don’t know how the birds and animals that don’t hibernate survive.

"Boiling water on the stove will add humidity to your home as the water evaporates. Depending on the size of your home, it may not adequately circulate throughout the house. A fan on low helps the circulation."
"Anything wet and drying out will to some extent increase humidity. Even drying your laundry inside can help. Plants in pots and a simple humidifier helps too."
Re: Joys of winter - worth to look at
Thanks for the reminder. Finished writing something on longevity and running here. Gotta go outside and chop some wood before it gets dark...And relatively speaking we have it much easier here. May you all keep warm and be able to pay those heating bills.

You Canadians must be even more used to snow and coldness than we Finns are, at least here in the most southern part it's just been raining and no freezing weather to be seen so far. Better learn to love the cold in the near future or then will have to consider about moving elsewhere lol.
