This thread feels really weird today.
I have no clue what anyone is talking about.
Too sick to bother with googling anything.
Fat Tuesday doesn't sound like anything I need to participate in.
I did like Crow's Bougainvilla Tunnel though.

I guess it's just like that sometimes, I notice it that way once in a while too and I don't always google either. It was fun to find out others far away are having a "fat Tuesday" too. I've eaten 3 pancakes today (gulp!).
Sorry your still sick x

[many photos, some movies - all worth it].
My memories are... just like the photos.
I wonder i have survived this, half sane.
[talking about 60s/70s. i've been there, all the time]
The free-est place in the world, back then.
Despite/ because of everything.
But also the dullest. The colours are... accurate.
As they are nowadays [a more recent one]:

I guess this post will only add to today's strangeness. It is a little weird, indeed.
And, what a coincidence, i just succumbed to ordering & eating the fries that haunted me all week.
* Do put in a prayer for Ernie - the hard facts: Eviction imminent, partner hospitalized, arrest warrant active against him.
Thanks for sharing Meeradas. Do you still live in Berlin? My friend was there a couple of years ago. She's an artist and loved it.
Ps I've been praying!
Blessings Ulli
Sending you lots of healing love...

Fat Tuesday is Mardi Gras in New Orleans...huge party the day before Ash Wednesday which is the beginning of lent for the Catholics, maybe all christians...I don't know. Lent should be a time of reflection and reevaluation of one's self, but instead has become a time where kids give up candy and adults give up alcohol and cigarettes, and think they have improved themselves. Sad.
*thanks, meeradas...been praying since he first posted.
I went there for one week with my class from High School...I was fifteen and had to be smuggled into the night club as I was underage.
The club was called Eden Saloon, and I danced and danced...in one week only had 10 hours sleep.
Driving home through East Germany's pot-holed Autobahn which never, ever got repaired, and tried to catch up on lost sleep then.
Vivid memories.
Lent used to be about fasting, but culturally it seems more about the party, Mardi Gras, or rather, the excuse to party. Mardi Grad is quite the debauch. Instead of a fast, they often give up meat on fridays, around here, at least. But fish is ok. All the fast food places already have their seasonal fish sandwiches up on their menus.
Like I said, I'm no catholic, but a customer brought me a king cake, it being fat tuesday, and all. Middle aged women seem to want to feed me at every opportunity. I'm five ten and a hundred forty five pounds, but I have a wiry physique so I look more like I weigh one twenty five. Without the beard or moustache I look like a teenager so the combination makes them want to see me fed. Also, this is a Southern (US) thing, I think.
Bugger ... worked on me

I don't "do" religion however, I spent a lot of time in the churches of Rome. My friend had just passed away when I was there and I could appreciate the beauty and hardship of the toils of the many who built them. My favourite was the The Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs. I went every day to light a candle.
I do so now too, for Ernie
I will be in Berlin next month :)
Have been going there for the past 25 years, same time, for a trade fair.
So you've been dancing at Rolf's first disco. Nice.
I wonder who's gonna snatch 10K...
New Orleans ... but isn't there something similar in Rio in Brazil???

In the good old days, we used to LOVE going to Chez Alex. A piano Bar. There usually were a gazillion people crammed into a small bar that probably could take about 300 people, at most. It was his favourite time of the year (mad travel people) and learnt pub songs from all over the world, so there'd be a "song-off" :)
Nowadays, its quiet meals with quality company.
Yes ITB ;)
I said apple...not a vegetable : ) ..or is it?
