Are men more observant than women?
Some say men are more able to count with distractions than woman are. Just try to follow the instructions and see if you get the number right. Men usually do better than women. The following test was performed and the results were interesting. If you have done it before it won't really work, but if you have not taken this test it can be quite revealing. Share your responses, and yes this is a merit system so to keep it fun let's only hear from those who have never done the test before for their results.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
**** Spoiler see video first ****
I'm male, saw all passes + the hairy dude. Guess that's their theory out the window.

Re: Are men more observant than women?
I got the count right - but I totally missed the gorilla!! In fact, I'm going back to watch it again to see if there really was a gorilla.
My son counted 14 passes - but he saw the gorilla.
That's their theory blown twice more.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
Continuation of my previous post:
The point about this being "quite revealing" is spot on, I got it right first time but I've always had trust issues so I guess that explains my eagle eyed approach (not to mention my iffy attention span). Having said that I also know I'm obsessed with detail and a touch paranoid because I played it twice more to see if there were any other odd things hidden... oh well. :)
Re: Are men more observant than women?
saw 15, saw gorilla, several entities and a partriged in a pear tree...
Re: Are men more observant than women?
I am female - I miscounted and got 16, but did see the gorilla.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
I may have polluted the viewer with talking about perception. Most people never notice the gorilla and it has nothing to do with gender, that's just to throw people off so they focus more on counting. I may edit my intro post.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
-----
Bah, I counted (guesstimated!) 17, and didn't see the gorilla!
Re: Are men more observant than women?
Wasn't the case with my last 2 gfs. They could have worked for FBI.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
I got the count almost right I put in an extra throw, saw the gorilla and wanted to shove him out of the way!!!
So what does that mean??
Re: Are men more observant than women?
Sorry, any woman would beat me in that test. I'd curl up in the corner and go to sleep rather than try to watch any ball game.
As to observations, it depends. Women will notice things that men will ignore and vice versa. It's because we attach different values to different things.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
Although there are gender "typings" that can allow for some generalities, my ultimate truth comes from dealing with the "person" in front of me and getting to know them. I won't get into the various intellectual/emotional and this/that possibilities to set up a relatively correct generic "typing" for gender differences because however correct that is, it will only serve to enforce the programming that perpetuates much of this anyway.
People who take the time and make the effort to source themselves end up being very unique, special and beautiful beings. I know many of us want to believe this is the case anyway but, similar programming cancels out the massive similarities in people and they then" see" the uniqueness that is left over. Truly original people are still relative rarities amongst us and a complete joy to behold. In their cases all of the "typing" falls away with any genderized traits being very consciously incorporated and displayed in ways that are recognizable in "feel" but are deliciously original in their presentation.
It is in these people that all attempts at categorization become clumsy jokes with people trying to fit over large or small objects into correspondingly ill-fitting containers and round pegs into square holes and vice-versa.
Concepts like women are from Venus and men are from Mars have a core brilliance as archetypal sympathetic resonant resources and an intelligent and terse, but idea rich, paragraph or two would lay out the idea(s) adequately. The book on this topic becomes laughable and largely deceptive as it sought to expand this insight into chapters and career.
Women and Men are equally awesome when they have done their work.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
I am not buying this.
Sure a man is uber observant when watching a video. Or anything that is vaguely tv related.
Then take a field test, a 'reality' test in real life, REAL LIFE, and send one into the kitchen for a salt shaker and he won't see it if even if it leapt out and bit him in the hand.
PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASE.
Re: Are men more observant than women?
OMG you guys don't seem to realize that the "Men are more observant" line was just a distraction. The test is not about who is more observant, just that most people never see the gorilla because they are trying to make sure they count the ball passes and don't see what's right in front of them. This thread is about who notices the gorilla, and it only works if you have never seen the video before.
Thanks for participating though.
