BREAKING NEWS: Huge 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits Iraq's Kurdish region near the Iranian border – and is felt 200 MILES away in Baghdad

At least six people have died and many injured after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit Iraq's Kurdish region near the Iranian border.

The strong quake hit large parts of northern Iraq and the capital Baghdad on Sunday, and also caused damage in villages across the border in Iran.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in Iraq after the quake, whose epicentre was in Penjwin, in Sulaimaniyah province which is in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region very close to the Iranian border, according to an Iraqi meteorology official.

But eight villages were damaged in Iran and at least six people were killed and many others injured in the border town of Qasr-e Shirin in Iran, Iranian state TV said.

The US Geological Survey said the quake measured a magnitude of 7.3, while an Iraqi meteorology official put its magnitude at 6.5 according to preliminary information.

Many residents in the Iraqi capital Baghdad rushed out of houses and tall buildings in panic.

'I was sitting with my kids having dinner and suddenly the building was just dancing in the air,' said Majida Ameer, who ran out of her building in the capital's Salihiya district with her three children.

'I thought at first that it was a huge bomb. But then I heard everyone around me screaming 'Earthquake!''

There were similar scenes in Erbil, the capital of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region, and across other cities in northern Iraq, close to the quake's epicentre.

Iraq's meteorology center advised people to stay away from buildings and not to use elevators, in case of aftershocks.


An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 struck Iraq on Sunday rocking Baghdad more than 200 miles away. The epicentre was 103 kms (64 miles) southeast of the city of As-Sulaymaniyah near the Iranian border

The quake was even felt in the Iranian capital Tehran, with some villages hit by power cuts, Iranian state TV reported.

'The quake was felt in several Iranian provinces bordering Iraq ... Eight villages were damaged ... Electricity has been cut in some villages and rescue teams have been dispatched to those areas,' TV reported.

Residents of Turkey's southeastern city of Diyarbakir also reported feeling a strong tremor, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties in the city.

Death Toll in Iran-Iraq Earthquake Reportedly Climbs to 350 (PHOTO, VIDEO)

At least 350 were killed and 4,000 more injured in Iran as a result of the earthquake that hit western Iran near the border with Iraq, a source in the Iranian Red Crescent told Sputnik on Monday.

"According to the new estimates, 350 people died as a result of the earthquake, about 4,000 are injured. These figures may further rise as removal of debris is underway," the source said.

Earlier it was reported that the death toll in an earthquake that struck western Iran near the border with Iraq has increased to 328, accordint to the region’s medical service.

On Sunday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) issued a statement about a 7.2-magnitude quake that hit Iran-Iraq border region at a depth of 12 miles, 132 miles northeast of Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, causing serious damage to the region.

According to the Iraqi Red Crescent, at least eight people were killed and 425 more were injured by the earthquake in the country.

The Red Crescent reported that about 70,000 Iranians were left without homes, the organization is opening tent camps on the site of the earthquake. The authorities of the country are taking all necessary measures to provide assistance to the victims.

A three-day mourning period was declared in the Iranian province of Kermanshah. It is assumed that the number of victims will grow.

A number of regions in province are not accessible by road, — the earthquake has caused landslides that have damaged roads.

In addition to Iran, Iraq suffered from the earthquake — the most damage was recorded in the city of Darbandikhan.

The Russian Embassy in Tehran said it did not receive any information about Russian nationals injured as a result of the earthquake, adding that the Russian diplomatic missions in the disaster area had not been damaged.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed condolences to his Iranian and Iraqi counterparts, Hassan Rouhani and Fuad Masum, respectively.

Tesla's oscillator "entrains" surrounding material into "resonating" at the frequency being oscillated... such an oscillator does NOT generate a P-wave (compression wave that hits first) as seen in post # 4 (first big spike on the red line).

A nuke blown underground does generate such "P-wave"... and that's all a nuke does: a nuke does NOT generate S-waves (second, smaller spike on the red line) which are often confused with an "Aftershock" if far enough from epicenter. S-waves or Shear Waves are also called "Secondary waves" or "Slow waves" due to their late arrival time compared to the "Primary", P-waves arrival time.

Post # 4 displays both P and S waves well separated in time (~ 1/2 hour) due to the distance of the seismograph (Canary Islands) to the epicentre (Iran-Iraq border).

Hence my summary:
