    Default Unemployment

Just want to run this by brighter minds than mine to see if it fits in with some Bigger Picture! Just found out one of my neighbors was recently let go from a job he held for 10 years in a nearby small town making airplane parts. This was because of a General Electric order withdrawal & 50 people were let go at the same time.

Sounds like an ego crushing event ... how unfortunate, or, is it? Unfortunately, it's hard to see any open doors while attention is affixed to a recently closed one. The only real variable is where the attention is placed.
When you are one step ahead of the crowd, you are a genius.
Two steps ahead, and you are deemed a crackpot.

To put a positive spin on it -

China & Russia are allegedly trying to take down the dollar. Sooner or later the trade imbalance with China will force a dollar correction. Basically US labour costs will be discounted relative to workers around the world. This will set off a manufacturing boom in the areas where USA is already strong, like Aerospace. Not sure if this will cheer them up.
we have subcontracted the business of healing people to Companies who profit from sickness.

I don't have much in the way of advice, and to some may these may seem more like platitudes. But anyway what seemed to work for me:

Be extremely persistent, see this as a chance to exercise your God-given, all-accomplishing willpower. Don't give up until the world is happy to give you a job just to keep you quiet.

Get your CV/resume fixed up, professionally if possible. Be sure to get it thoroughly proof-read by other pairs of eyeballs as well. Typos, errors and howlers are often used as a way of filtering candidates.

Be prepared to talk about projects you did that you were particularly proud of that you can talk about in great detail, or how you managed to make problems go away. In essence how you convince them that you did more than merely turn up for work every day. Never denigrate previous employers or colleagues no matter badly you were treated.

Try not to be satisfied with any job, or the first that comes your way. You are a child of God who wants for you nothing but the best. Be aware of the general demeanour of the staff where you are interviewing, try to look for signs of dysfunctional work environments, or if you feel that it would not be a good match. This should be a win-win outcome.

If planning a career change be realistic about salary expectations, expect to start at a graduate / apprentice rate, as well as facing some pretty tough learning curves ahead.

    Hope this helps.

Fits perfect with the fortunes of GE. Stock is down 36% since old CEO Jeff Immelt announced he was leaving. The company is in all sorts of financial problems as it shutters whole divisions. It even sold its light bulb unit. No longer able to bring good things to light.
When in doubt, do the next right thing.
