Default 'It just mowed everybody down': Pedestrians hit by SUV in Melbourne CBD

    http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/se...20-h089ce.html

Quote Up to 15 people have been injured after pedestrians were mown down by a car near the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth streets in Melbourne's CBD.

A white SUV showed no signs of slowing as it mowed down a number of people at the busy intersection.

interesting timing is all i can say , after they were going to install concrete bollards around melb CBD a few months ago but apparently the remotely activated ones for the tram tracks were deemed unworkable

( at time of posting it had literally just happened )

Quote It appears police have not enacted counter terrorism lockdown strategies. The new terror warning sirens have also not been activated.

Police have confirmed the collision impact on victims was not at high speed.

The pedestrians were struck in front of dozens of people as they crossed the busy intersection at the beginning of peak hour.

One distressed woman carrying Christmas presents and wrapping paper could be seen crying as police escorted her into an unmarked police car.

While looking on further stuff about this, I see a man was arrested last month as well, for planning a Melbourne attack on NYE.

Onlookers seem to think it was not an accident. https://www.9news.com.au/videos/cjbg...linders-street

there was still talk about them installing concrete bollards around the cbd after the last one ( i live about an hour away so i don't go there much) was some issue with the installation of automated ones for the tram tracks but from what i remember of flinders street theres a point where there's mass amounts of people that cross to the flinders street train station , no bollards to prevent that

at the time along with a lot of others i noticed a lot of things didn't sit right with the whole sequence of events of the original cbd car incident

So sad to hear of such events. May those affected and their families find peace. In the larger context, for those seeking to implement fundamental technological shift in our societies, this kind of event may be another argument in favor of driverless cars.

THAT is exactly what i believe these events wether freerange or controlled are being used for long term , they already shut down the australian automotive production industry so we'll be reliant upon approved foreign car imports

i was thinking first it would be "smart car only zones" which would of course be pre approved successful "trials " then wheeled out over wider areas

is interesting it happened right outside one of melbournes two major trainstations

Quote Second man arrested after Melbourne driver rampage that left 19 injured 'was filming the incident and had three KNIVES in his bag'
Man arrested near where a car ploughed through crowds in front of Melbourne's Flinders Street Station
The 24-year-old was filming the 'deliberate' rampage and when the car crashed into a tram stop bollard
Police searched him as procedure and found a bag containing three knives, leading to his arrest
However, police did not believe he was involved or connected to the 32-year-old alleged driver
Nineteen people including the alleged driver were injured in the incident, four still in critical condition

I considered that they might have zoomed the footage in and across to package it (if they can do that?) but it doesn't look like it, the movement matches the speed and way those cameras move.

Another possible scenario is that security noticed the car going a bit too fast on the tram tracks (out of all the other monitors), thought unbelievably quicky and followed it in the nick of time to catch the incident, I highly doubt that.

I wonder who owns the CCTV, gov or private?

Update: nope, the more I look at it the more I'm convinced the camera panned, would be good to have expert confirmation though. Can't see how this is standard, sensors to activate areas where cars always travel for parking anyway?

I asked an Engineer your question regarding the security cam moving to capture the car speeding, who used to work in coordinating railway configurations. He seemed to think it would be simple tech for the camera to move from a trigger such as speeding, to set the camera tracking the movement.

They have the large concrete blocks in place in queen st mall in Brisbane. This only covers 3 main entrances to the mall, with the 4th having no blocks as it's the main delivery rout for courier trucks dropping off supplies to stores within the mall.

There are plenty of other areas, namely all the streets within an 8 block radius around queen st mall that are just as congested people wise have no protection whatsoever outside of on street parking generally limited to one side of the road where the parked cars would act as a barrier.

I don't understand why they're doing this. They've already disarmed us. What other laws and restrictions do they want to put in place that require attacks like this as justification??
