Default Syria air strikes: US and allies attack [alleged] chemical weapons sites...14 Apr 2018

Hopefully this is not as bad as it looks on the surface and it depends if Russia
reacts. This has all the hallmarks of a false flag op unless Assad is 'raving' after
winning the war and with Trump indicating its time to get out of Syria.

The empire strikes back with this deepstate raid and as some of the guests point
out in the segments below the timing is ridiculous with the chemical inspection
team due in country Monday. Was this designed to provoke a response to stop
them going in ? Was evidence blown up ? was this cosmetic with Russia/world
warned this was coming by tweet ?

It depends if this escalates or not and if Trump has been hoodwinked/blackmailed.
Both Israel and Saudi have close links to the US and was the UK intel asked to co
ordinate this with Mossad as the CIA has been told not to get directly involved in
Syria when Trump first took office though I'm sure they are still there meddling.

Another reason Russia would be reluctant to react is the soccer world cup
is due. 2018 FIFA World Cup will begin on Thursday 14 June exactly 2 months
away. There has already been talk of boycott and a war would definitely do it.

Syria air strikes: US and allies attack chemical weapons sites

    14/4/18

The US, UK and France have bombed multiple government targets in Syria in an
early morning operation targeting alleged chemical weapons sites. The strikes were
in response to a suspected chemical attack on the Syrian town of Douma last week.

Explosions hit the capital, Damascus, as well as two locations near the city of
Homs, the Pentagon said.Russia's ambassador to the US responded by saying the
attack on its ally "will not be left without consequences".

"The nations of Britain, France, and the United States of America have marshalled
their righteous power against barbarism and brutality," President Trump said in an
address to the nation from the White House at about 21:00 local time (02:00 BST).

"The purpose of our actions tonight is to establish a strong deterrent against the
production, spread, and use of chemical weapons," he said.

The wave of strikes is the most significant attack against President Bashar al-
Assad's government by Western powers in seven years of Syria's civil war.

Most of this is rhetoric .....

Col Douglas MacGregor ret military analyst asks the obvious why with the war
almost won would Assad do this ? He also suggest this may be cosmetic , by
warning Russia in advance which is hopeful the others are just spouting official
BS...Sebastian Gorka will follow the company line whatever and shows his

BREAKING: Trump announces US, UK and France launched missile strikes against Syria - UPDATES

US President Donald Trump has approved military strikes in Syria in retaliation for the alleged chemical attack by the Assad government in Douma, near Damascus, last week. The UK and France joined the operation.

"A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad," Trump said in a televised address from the White House. He added that a combined military operation by the US, the UK and France is already underway in Syria.

The US-led intervention in Syria comes just hours before the UN's Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) experts were scheduled to visit the Damascus suburb of Douma on Saturday to determine whether chemical weapons had been used there last week.

Shortly after Trump's announcement, a statement from UK Prime Minister Theresa May said she had authorized British forces to conduct "coordinated and targeted strikes to degrade the Syrian regime's chemical weapons capability."

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that he ordered French forces to carry out a military action against Syria in coalition with the US and France. "The facts and the responsibility of the Syrian regime are beyond doubt," he said in a statement issued by his office, accusing Damascus of crossing "a red line" set by France in May of last year.

Macron said that France's response was "limited" and solely aimed at "the capabilities of the Syrian regime for the production and use of chemical weapons."

According to Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford, the US did not notify Russian forces in Syria ahead of the strikes. "We did not do any coordination with the Russians on the strikes, nor did we pre-notify them." The Pentagon said the strikes were a "one time shot" to send a strong message to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The combined decision by the US and its allies to strike Syria comes just after Russian defense ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov presented evidence claiming that last Saturday's alleged chemical attack in Douma was orchestrated. The general also noted that London was "directly involved in the provocation."

The UK defense ministry stated that the strike was executed by four Royal Air Force Tornado GR4s, that launched Storm Shadow missiles at what the UK military claims was a former missile base, some 15 miles west of Homs. The ministry claimed that the Syrian government keeps a stockpile of chemical weapons precursors at the site, thus violating the Chemical Weapons Convention, of which it is a party.

Trump had a special message for Russia and Iran, who he said were "most responsible for supporting, equipping and financing" the Syrian government.

"What kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murderer of innocent men, women and children? The nations of the world can be judged by the friends they keep. No nation can succeed, in the long run, by promoting rogue states, brutal tyrants, and murderous dictators," Trump said.

He also blamed "Russia's failure" to keep the 2013 promise that Syria would get rid of its chemical weapons, which was negotiated in good faith with the US. Syria's compliance with the promise was certified by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in 2014. The only remaining chemical weapons caches in Syria were in territories held by the Western-backed militants, such as Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam), who controlled Douma until their surrender on Monday.

Weeks ago, Russia warned that the militants in the east Ghouta enclave might stage a chemical weapons attack to win over Western public opinion. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the reports of Saturday's chemical attack "fake news," while the Russian military investigating the area found no traces of chlorine or nerve agents, any eyewitnesses who could confirm their use or anyone who might have been affected.

An OPCW investigative mission was supposed to arrive in Douma on Saturday.
It is unclear what will happen to the probe, in light of the US, UK and French bombing.

US, UK, France Strike Syria With Over 100 Missiles in Response to Alleged Chemical Attack (13)

On Friday, US President Donald Trump ordered to "launch precision strikes on Syria" in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma, described by Moscow and Damascus as a false flag. The attack was joined by British and French air forces.

More than 100 cruise and air-to-surface missiles were launched at "civilian and military facilities" in Syria on April 14 in line with US President Donald Trump's order.
The US warships Porter, Cook и Higgins carried out the attack from the Red Sea, while the French and UK fighters Mirage and Tornado, respectively, interacted with the US bombers B-1 over the Mediterranean Sea.

Military sources have told Sputnik Arabic that the strikes on Syria had been conducted from a French base in the United Arab Emirates, British bases in Jordan and Cyprus, as well as the US' Incirlik Airbase in Turkey. The attacks were launched on research centers in the administrative area of Barzeh and the village of Jamraya in the capital [Damascus] suburbs as well as the Jebel el Mania district west of Damascus. According to the source, the strikes on the western part of the Homs province have been fully repelled and that the missiles had not caused any damage.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Syrian defense forces managed to intercept 71 cruise missile out of 103, including all that had been fired at Dumayr military airport located 40 kilometers (24 miles) north-east of Damascus.

The ministry explained that Syria repelled the Western attack by air defense complexes made in the USSR over 30 years ago, including the S-125 and S-200 air defense systems, as well as Buk and Kvadrat.

However, the Russian military announced its decision to reconsider supplies of S-300 missile systems suspended due to some Western states\ request after the attack.

The ministry underscored that "none of cruise missiles launched by the US and its allies did not enter the zone of responsibility of the Russian air defenses, covering objects in Tartus [naval facility] and Hmeymim [airbase located in the Latakia province].

The Syrian military, in turn, said that the country's air defenses had downed the majority of US, UK and French missiles, with some of them causing material damage.

    'Barbaric Aggression'
Syrian President Bashar Assad slammed the attack, saying that Damascus' resolve to "fight and crush terrorism in every inch" would only increase after the strikes.

Just hours after the Western missile attack, the Syrian presidency posted a video footage of President Bashar Assad arriving at work.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has denounced the joint US, British and French strikes as a "brutal, barbaric aggression," saying that the attack "aims at hindering the OPCW [Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons] mission's work and preempting its results."

The ministry stressed that "this aggression will only lead to inflaming tensions in the world and threatens international security."

It was echoed by the Syrian General Staff, which said that the army would continue to fight against terrorism despite the trilateral aggression and that such attacks would only strengthen the government forces' resolve.

    'Onetime Shot'
Commenting on the move, Pentagon chief James Mattis described US airstrikes on Syria as a "onetime shot," while Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford told reporters that Washington had no more attacks planned at the moment.

At the same time, Dunford said he was not aware "of any Russian activity," when asked whether any Russian defenses engaged US, French or British ships or missiles missiles.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May, in turn, said that she has authorized British armed forces to conduct coordinated and targeted strikes to "degrade the Syrian regime's chemical weapons capability and deter their use," remarks that were supported by British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he has ordered his country's military to intervene in Syria together with the US and UK, and that the strikes on Syria target "regime chemical weapons capacity."

At the same time, the French foreign minister stated that more strikes possible if Syria "uses chemical weapons again."

Russia: Act of Aggression Against Sovereign State, Fighting Terror
The Kremlin has issued a statement on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who called the strikes an "act of aggression against a sovereign state that has been fighting against terrorism."

At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned the airstrikes which she said "have been launched at the capital of a sovereign state that has been fighting for survival for years amid terrorist aggression."

She went on to note that the strikes have delivered a serious blow to the Syrian peace negotiation process.

"This move has sent a strong signal to the extremists and militants indicating that what they have been doing so far is correct. The provocation with Damascus allegedly using chemical weapons was staged by the extremists and militants on the ground and as it appears was supported by the countries, which struck [Syria]."

According to the Russian General Staff, it views the strike not as a response to an alleged chemical attack, "but a reaction to the success of the Syrian armed forces in the liberation of its territory from international terrorism." It has emphasized that the attack had been carried out exactly on the day, when the OPCW special mission was set to start its work in Damascus to probe the incident in the city of Douma, where chemical weapons had allegedly been used.

The Russian Embassy in Damascus told Sputnik that it has no reports of Russian nationals killed or wounded in Saturday's strikes launched by the US, the UK and France against Syria.

    Middle East Reacts
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has lashed out at the Western states that had conducted a joint massive missile strike on targets in Syria and warned them of "regional consequences," while the Islamic Repiblic's Supreme leader Ali Khamenei called the US, French and UK leaders "criminals."

Another state-guarantor of the Syrian ceasefire, Turkey, has stated that its Incirlik airbase, which also hosts US nukes, hadn't been used in the Western attack, though has supported its NATO allies' move.

Iraq, which has long suffered from Daesh* terrorists' occupation alongside Syria, stated that the Western attack on Syrian military targets could give terrorism an opportunity to expand in the region.

"Such action could have dangerous consequences, threatening the security and stability of the region and giving terrorism another opportunity to expand after it was ousted from Iraq and forced into Syria to retreat to a large extent," the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry has slammed the strikes, calling them an "outrageous aggression" against soverrign state.

Reuters cited an Israeli official as saying on condition of anonymity that missile strikes at Syria are "justified" and that Syria's alleged "murderous actions" jeopardize the country's territory, forces and leadership.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said on Saturday Riyadh expresses "full support to the military operations carried out by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France on military targets in Syria."

Alleged Chemical Weapons Attack in Douma
The announcement of the airstrikes came just hours before the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) team was scheduled to arrive in Douma to determine whether chemical weapons had been used there.

The situation in Syria significantly escalated last week amid reports about the April 7 alleged chemical attack in the city of Duma located in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta.

The EU and the US have rushed to blame the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad, with Damascus refuting the allegations. Moscow has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged attack before drawing any conclusions.

Speaking at the briefing on Friday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that the ministry "has plenty of evidence that on April 7, a planned provocation was carried out in Douma to mislead the international community and prod the United States to launch missile strikes on Syria." According to him, the provocation was organized by Syrian NGOs, including the infamous White Helmets.

Konashenkov said that the Russian Defense Ministry has also evidence of the UK's direct involvement in organizing this provocation. He also said that the ministry found those who took part in filming the mock-up chemical weapons attack in Douma and that those participants briefed the ministry on details of filming the clip.

71 Out of 103 Destroyed: Here's How Syria's Air Defense Repelled West's Missiles

Perhaps the most surprising news surrounding the US, British and French strike on Syria Saturday morning was the report that the country's Air Defense Force managed to shoot down just shy of 70% of the Western cruise missiles launched. Sputnik looks at how the Syrians managed to do it.

The Western attack, executed this morning at 4:00 am Syrian time on April 14, saw US Navy warships in the Red Sea and Air Force B-1B bombers and F-15 and F-16 aircraft rain dozens of ship and air-launched cruise missiles down on the Syrian capital of Damascus, an airbase outside the city, a so-called chemical weapons storage facility near Homs, and an equipment storage facility and command post, also near Homs. B1-Bs are typically armed with JASSM cruise missiles, which have a 450 kg warhead and a range of 370 km. US Navy warships launched Tomahawks, which have 450 kg warheads and an operational range of between 1,300 and 2,500 km.

The British Royal Air Force's continent for the assault consisted of four Tornado GR4 ground attack aircraft armed with the Storm Shadow long-range air-to-surface missile, which the UK's Defense Ministry said targeted 'chemical weapons sites' in Homs. These weapons have a range of 400 km. Finally, France sent its Aquitaine frigate, armed with SCALP naval land attack cruise missiles (SCALP the French military's name for the Storm Shadow), as well as several Dassault Rafale fighters, also typically armed with SCALP or Apache cruise missiles.

According to the Russian defense ministry, the B-1Bs also fired GBU-38 guided air bombs.

Undoubtedly weary of the prospect of having their aircraft shot down after Israel lost one of its F-16s over Syria in February, the Western powers presumably launched their weapons from well outside the range of Syrian air defenses, with all the targets located just 70-90 km of the Mediterranean Sea, and having to fly through Lebanon first.

    Attack Blunted
However, notwithstanding the powerful collection of weaponry arrayed against them, the Syrian Army seems to have managed, for the most part, to blunt the attack.

Several hours after the strikes, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the majority of the missiles launched were intercepted by Syria's Air Defense Force, who shot down some 71 of the 103 cruise missiles detected. This included the interception of all 12 missiles launched at the Al-Dumyar airbase northeast of Damascus. Syrian media, for its part, reported that the military had destroyed 20 missiles over Damascus alone.

Furthermore, although the Syrian military does have some modern air defenses, including the Pantsir-S1 combined short-to-medium range surface to air missile (SAM) and anti-aircraft artillery system, the cruise missile attack was repelled mostly by upgrades of 30+ year old equipment, including variants of the Buk self-propelled missile system, the S-125 air defense system, and the S-200, an aging but tried and tested SAM introduced into the Soviet military in the late 1960s.

    Balance of Forces
In late 2016, Russian defense analysts created a detailed outline of the state of Syria's military. Their research concluded that Syria's air defenses remained formidable, even following half a decade of war against terrorism.

According to the estimates, the Air Defense Force's inventory includes 36 Pantsir-S1s, delivered by Russia between 2008 and 2013, 3-6 battalions of Buk-M1 and Buk-M2 medium-range SAM systems (Moscow delivered eight Buk-M2s between 2010 and 2013), five regiments (i.e. 25 batteries) of Kvadrat tracked medium-range surface-to-air missile systems (Kvadrat being the export version of the Kub air defense system), and 8 regiments of the S-200VE long-range missile system.

Syria has up to 53 regiments of the Dvina and Volga variant of the S-75, the ancient Soviet high-altitude air defense system used to shoot down US U-2s over the USSR and Cuba in the early 1960s. The country also has some 4,000 anti-aircraft guns of various calibers, although these are slowly being retired.

The Ground forces are also equipped with the OSA, Strela-1, and Strela-10 mobile, low-altitude short-range SAM systems (the Syrians have 61, 100 and 60 of each, respectively).

    CC0 Strela 1, file photo.

Syria's radar network consists of P-40 3-D UHF early warning/target acquisition radar, P-12 3D VHF early warning ground control radar, P-15 2D UHF surveillance/target acquisition radar, P-30, P-35 an P-80 2D E band/F band early warning ground control radar, and PRV-13 and PRV-16 altimeter radar.

With the exception of the PRV-16 and the P-80, which were introduced into the Soviet military in the early 1970s, the rest of these systems were fielded starting in the late 1950s and mid-1960s, and have mostly been retired in Russia. Russia and Belarus have provided Syria with parts and technical support for these systems.

[Unconfirmed map of Syrian air defense coverage area. The greatest density is southwest of Damascus, where over 35 systems are said to be in operation.]

    Stronger Than Expected
The formation of Syria's more or less modern air defenses has its roots the early 1980s, and stems from the Air Defense Force's humiliating defeat at the hands of Israeli air power during the 1982 Lebanon War at Bekka Valley. A year later, in 1983, the Soviet Union transferred its S-200VE long-range air defense system, along with the technical personnel to man them and train their Syrian counterparts. The S-200's deployment was unusual, with Syria getting the systems before even the USSR's Warsaw Pact allies did.

Soviet officers pose in front of an S-200VE in Syria, 1980s. © Photo : Sergey Kachko / veteransyria.org

Since that time, thanks in part to having to contend with the technologically superior Israeli Air Defense Force on its border, Syria has continued to upgrade its air defense network. In fact, despite its age compared to Western powers, or say Russia, the country's air defenses are considerably more modern than those of Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya before those countries were subjected to US and NATO bombings in 1999, 2003 and 2011.

The Air Defense Force is estimated to have between 20,000 and 36,000 personnel. Syria's terrain, including numerous mountain ranges, which complicate attackers' options, has resulted in an operational doctrine aimed at preserving air defense capabilities even in the event of massed enemy strikes, similarly to the Yugoslav Air Defense Force's strategy during the war against NATO. According to Russian military observers, Syria's most formidable air defense systems are its Pantsirs and BuK-M1-2 and Buk M-2Es, which can shoot down F-15s from 45 km away and simultaneously track and destroy up to two dozen enemy targets. Furthermore, the S-125 Pechora remains a problem for NATO, despite its age. In March 2015, Syria shot down a US Predator drone in Latakia using the system. Finally, of course, there are those S-200s, which have an operational range of 300 km. It was one of these that shot down the intruder Israeli F-16 in February 2018.

    Future Proofing
It's unclear at this point whether the US and its allies will limit their strikes to Saturday's attack, or launch further attacks in the future. In any case, the attack has already prompted Moscow into considering providing Damascus with its S-300 long-range SAM system. "Taking into account what happened, we consider it possible to return to this issue," the Russian General Staff said in a statement.

In any case, Russia has already provided Syria with substantial assistance in restoring its air defense capabilities, particularly over the past year and a half. The end result of this assistance was seen shortly after 4 am on Saturday morning.

This looks like a limited strike and response so it depends if this goes any further
to what happens next.....This all seems very odd.....Gen McKenzie in the press
brief below says the US maintained a deconfliction back channel communication
with the Russians before and during this attack. Also they have definitive proof
Assad used chemical weapons but we are not telling you... (peasants)..

Total propaganda press conference as you would expect...

"We completed our objectives without Syrian interference, all our bombs and
missiles all hit the 3 designated targets and of the 40 Syrian missiles fired in
response missed any allied planes or missiles "

What does the US get by striking Syria? I think the question should be phrased, what does Trump get? Distraction from the deep state exposing things that are embarrassing and compromising to him. He might hope for improved ratings. I think that is what it comes down to. A narcissist that would compromise the entire planet for his own benefit, no matter how small.
