(CNN)A volcanic eruption has spewed molten rock and hazardous gases from the ground in a small community on Hawaii's Big Island, sending people fleeing from their homes as trees burn and the threat of more destruction is feared.

A crack in Kilauea volcano's rift zone - an area of fissures miles away from the summit - erupted late Thursday afternoon, spurting lava in Leilani Estates, a community of about 1,700 people near the Big Island's eastern edge.

Video posted on social media showed magma spewing several feet into the air from a new crack in a Leilani Estates street. Aerial videos showed lava searing a long orange and smoky line through a wooded area.

Authorities ordered residents of Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens to evacuate to two community centers, which are serving as shelters.

Smoke and lava are widespread Thursday following the eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea volcano.

Eruptions from cracks in the Leilani Estates area continued into Friday morning, the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency said.

Leilani Estates resident Meija Stenback told CNN affiliate KITV that she left the area with her family. The eruption came after hundreds of earthquakes shook the eastern side of the Big Island over four days, and residents had been warned an eruption was possible.

"We knew it was coming, and even now it's ... really surreal at this point," Stenback told KITV.

A thick plume of smoke and ash also rose Thursday from the Puu Oo volcanic vent, roughly halfway between Kilauea's caldera and Leilani Estates.

    Concerns about sulfur dioxide
Destructive molten flows weren't the only concern. Volcanic eruptions can release potentially dangerous sulfur dioxide -- and fire department personnel have detected high levels of the gas in the evacuation area, the civil defense agency said.

Exposure to high levels of sulfur dioxide could be life-threatening, according to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

Breathing large amounts of sulfur dioxide could result in burning of the nose and throat and breathing difficulties, the agency says.

Gov. David Ige said he's activated the Hawaii National Guard to help with evacuations and security.

"I urge residents in Leilani Estates and the surrounding areas to follow instructions. ... Please be alert and prepare now to keep your family safe," he tweeted.

Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes. It's in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which has since closed off nearly 15,700 acres due to "the possibility of a new eruption and unstable geologic activity." But most of the park remains open, it said in a statement.

Since Monday, hundreds of earthquakes -- most of them around 2.0 magnitude -- have been recorded in the area. The series of quakes came after a collapse of a crater floor of Puu Oo.

Since that collapse, about 250 earthquakes were reported in the area into Tuesday evening, according to a Hawaiian Volcano Observatory status report.

The tremors have jarred residents, who've been reporting nearly constant ground vibrations. They have also reported cracks in roads.

The US Geological Survey said the magnitude of the most severe quake ahead of the eruption was 5.0.

"It has now become unnerving," resident Carol Shepard told CNN affiliate KHON.
She said the flurry of earthquakes seemed to happen every minute.

"It'd be like the house would shake. It'd be like somebody that weighs 300 pounds came in my living room, and jumped up and down," she said.

CNN's Dakin Andone, Keith Allen and Gianluca Mezzofiore contributed to this report.

In wake of big quake, 5th eruption reported in Leilani Estates

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 5.3-magnitude quake shook the Big Island on Friday morning as Kilauea eruptions continue in Puna.

"The temblor at about 11:30 a.m. was centered near the south flank of Kilauea — about 18 kilometers southwest of Leilani Estates, the USGS reported. The quake did not generate a tsunami, but was felt across the Big Island from Hilo to Kona and as far away as Oahu.

The quake added to an already busy day for the Big Island, which is grappling with four separate eruptions from two fissures in Leilani Estates.

On Friday morning, authorities said the situation in the Puna subdivision continues to get more dire.

And Hawaii County Civil Defense authorities have issued this ominous warning to households that choose not to heed mandatory orders to leave: "First responders may not be able to come to the aid of residents who refuse to evacuate."

The four eruptions, the latest of which started about 11 a.m. on Mohala Street, are threatening several homes — and authorities have confirmed that at least two have sustained significant damage. Dramatic images from the subdivision show lava bubbling up from the ground and soaring more than 100 feet in the air.

Residents described the sound of the eruptions as haunting — "hissing" and "like a freight train." And they describe

About 6:40 a.m., officials confirmed that a third breakout had occurred on Kaupili Street, which resulted in the two house fires.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory also said that active volcanic vents were erupting on Makamae and Mohala streets. Civil Defense said all Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens subdivision residents are required to evacuate immediately.

In a news conference, Mayor Harry Kim said though the eruptions are mainly affecting this particular region of Puna, surrounding areas should be on alert.

"In regards to activity of lava itself, yes, we’re gonna monitor it very carefully and be ready to evacuate or identify different areas," Kim said. "Right now the evacuation areas are in Lanipuna Gardens and Leilani Estates."

"At least a dozen small earthquakes rattled the region since midnight, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Resident Ikaika Marzo said he could feel several quakes shake the area in the early morning hours and saw the second eruption around 1:30 a.m.. It lasted for about two hours, he said.

The two new eruptions happened less than a day after the volcano's first eruption created a fissure in the community, spewing lava into the air as high as utility poles, covering roads and nearing several homes.

HVO said the first eruption that started in late afternoon Thursday ended about 6:30 p.m., after creating a fissure that sent lava soaring as high as 125 feet into the air. About 10:30 p.m., geologists confirmed the fissure (whose length was not immediately clear) was no longer erupting.

They stressed, however, that new lava outbreaks remain a possibility.

"The opening phases of fissure eruptions are dynamic and uncertain. It is not possible at this time to say when and where new vents may occur," the observatory said, in its latest update. "Areas downslope of an erupting fissure or vent are at risk of lava inundation. At this time, the general area of the Leilani subdivision appears at greatest risk."

Two emergency shelters have been opened for evacuees — one at Pahoa Community and the Keaau Community centers — and a number of families had hunkered down at the facilities for the night.

Within hours of the eruption Thursday, Gov. David Ige had activated the Hawaii National Guard and issued an emergency disaster proclamation. FEMA is also mobilizing resources.

In an interview with Hawaii News Now, Ige urged evacuees to "stay calm" and continue to stay tuned to emergency alerts.

Those residents fled their homes Thursday evening with few belongings — just what they could collect in the minutes they had to leave, as officers went door-to-door to ensure everyone got out. One resident said he grabbed his father's ashes as he ran out the door.

"My family is safe, the rest of the stuff can be replaced," another resident said. "When I bought here 14 years, I knew that this day would eventually come. But the reality is sinking in now."

Some residents seemed in disbelief at what they were seeing in their own backyards. In social media posts, they documented lava sputtering up from cracks in the roadway and then angrily boiling up higher and higher.

Ikaika Marzo said he could see fountains of lava in the community topping 100 feet.

He was among the first people in Leilani Estates to spot the active lava. And as soon as he did, he started notifying anyone he could find.

"When we drove on that road, we heard a noise in the forest and it was like a little thump," he said. "Next thing, like three to five seconds after that, we smelled sulfur. After that, that's when there was tons of sulfur. Then we saw some lava popping out."

The lava outbreak was first reported about 4:30 p.m., some six hours after a 5.0-magnitude earthquake shook the Big Island Thursday morning. That quake came after hundreds of small tremors rattled the island since last week.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said the larger quake Thursday caused rockfalls and possibly an additional collapse into the Puu O'o crater, not no immediate eruption. The plume dissipated as it drifted southwest, dropping ash on some nearby communities.

The quake happened around 10:30 a.m., and was centered in the south flank of Kilauea volcano at a depth of 6.9 kilometers, the USGS said. It was originally reported as a 4.6-magnitude tremor, but its strength was later increased."

I have clients there right now, but fortunately they're on the other side of the island and so far haven't been affected. Let's hope this isn't another Pompeii in the making.

    Edit to add:
They just sent me a text and said the first big quake, they were laying on the beach and it felt really weird. The second big one, they were in their condo and it was truly scary. Of course they're watching for any tsunami warnings.

(CNN)Residents on Hawaii's Big Island faced the threats of more earthquakes, lava and dangerous gas Saturday after the Kilauea volcano erupted, spewing high levels of sulfur dioxide and molten rocks into neighborhoods.

A magnitude 6.9 quake struck the area Friday, jolting homes already threatened by volcanic eruption. The earthquake, one of dozens to hit the area in 24 hours, was the most powerful on the island since 1975, the US Geological Survey said.

The volcano, which erupted Thursday, already had driven hundreds of people from their homes.

The jolts and tremors have been consistent, said Ikaika Marzo, who lives on the Big Island.

"There are still plumes going out. There's a couple cracks that's close by that still have steam coming out," Marzo told CNN affiliate KHON on Friday. "There's a lot of glow, a lot of fires."

The volcanic activity will continue, Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno said Friday. "It doesn't look like it is slowing down."

At least seven volcanic vents have opened in Leilani Estates, according to the Hawaii Civil Defense Agency. All residents of Leilani Estates, a community of about 1,700 people near the Big Island's eastern edge, and nearby Lanipuna Gardens have been ordered to evacuate.

    'Just basically heartbreak'
Timothy Trun was among a dozen who evacuated from his farm Thursday as he and others were about to sit down to a goodbye dinner for a friend.

"It's been a real shocker," he told CNN on Saturday. "We're about to enjoy eating dinner, and the cops show up and tell us you have to go, and everything changes in an instant. You have five minutes to pack your bags with what you think you're going to need and you're off."

Neil Valentine and his family also left their home Thursday night in Leilani Estates. In short order, he saw a video on social media showing lava splashing and bubbling a few feet from his home, he told CNN affiliate KITV.

"Just basically heartbreak," he said of the scene. "My wife and I have been married going on 26 years. It was pretty much our dream home that we've been looking for all this time. Just knowing that we're not going to have a house, my wife is still in tears."

Harry Kim, mayor of Hawaii County, said the government will support residents who want to go back to their homes to pick up some belongings.

Cracks in Kilauea volcano's rift zone -- an area of fissures miles away from the summit -- erupted Thursday and early Friday, spurting lava near the island's eastern edge.

    'We had to evacuate'
Stephen Clapper was one of the evacuees. He asked his mother Friday to pack a bag, just in case.

"We had to evacuate. My mother was out of portable oxygen, so that's a first concern. She's 88 years old," he told KHON.

Lava set trees ablaze and threatened homes as gas spewed out of cracks in the ground. Clapper went back to the house, got his mother and the dogs, swept up some of his clothes in one arm and took off for a shelter.

    Hundreds without power
About 14,000 customers of Hawaii Electric Light lost power immediately after Friday's 6.9 magnitude quake. Power has been restored to about half those customers, but sulfur gas levels in some areas are too high for employees to work, utility spokeswoman Rhea Lee-Moku said Friday evening.

"When you are exposed to that level of SO2 in the Leilani Estates area, you need more protection than we have available to us," she said.

Exposure to high levels of sulfur dioxide can be life-threatening, according to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Volcanic eruptions can release the gaseous compound, and Hawaiian fire department personnel have detected high levels of it in the evacuation area, the civil defense agency said.

Breathing large amounts of sulfur dioxide can result in burning of the nose and throat, and breathing difficulties. Senior citizens, the young and people with respiratory issues are especially vulnerable to the gas, the state's Emergency Management Agency said.

Gov. David Ige said he's activated the Hawaii National Guard to help with evacuations and security.

Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes. It's in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which closed Friday and evacuated all visitors and nonemergency staff.

CNN's Jason Hanna, Chris Boyette, Dakin Andone, Keith Allen and Gianluca Mezzofiore contributed to this report.

Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens are 20 minutes from my house.

Yesterday, we had a 5.0 magnitude earthquake just before all this started.

One of the most unfortunate aspects of this is that the homes in Leilani Estates subdivision are self-financed due to the fact that Volcano/Lava insurance is not available there.

So, if they loose their home to the lava, it’s a total loss without recourse.
Hey Wansen, I also live in the area and have 2 friends in Leliani at the other end near 130. I feel so bad for everyone there, esp those that are loosing their homes, or can't return even to pick up animals due to the gas and spewing lava & rocks.

Now I hear that the water could be cut off to lower Puna - Opihiko, Kalpana, Kaimu and up to Kapoho - as there are now cracks in 130. Starting to get much more serious.

Don't ignore the Sulfur Dioxide - combined with water, and you have Sulfuric Acid (Battery Acid) - and that does dissolve tissues, lungs, eyes, plants.. A major constituent of "acid rain".

    https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/p...sulfur-dioxide

Erupting volcanoes can be a significant natural source of sulfur dioxide emissions.

    Environmental effects
When sulfur dioxide combines with water and air, it forms sulfuric acid, which is the main component of acid rain.

    Acid rain can:
    • cause deforestation and damage crops
    • acidify waterways to the detriment of aquatic life
    • corrode building materials and paints.

For example, in Queensland (Australia), there is less heavy industry than in Europe or North America, where the potential for forming acid rain from sulfur dioxide emissions is higher. The weather conditions and low sulfur content of fuels reduce the potential for acid rain.

    Health effects
Sulfur dioxide affects the respiratory system, particularly lung function, and can irritate the eyes.

Sulfur dioxide irritates the respiratory tract and increases the risk of tract infections. It causes coughing, mucus secretion and aggravates conditions such as asthma and chronic bronchitis.

Sulfur dioxide dissolves easily in water to form sulfuric acid.

    Sulfur Dioxide and Volcanoes

Sulfur dioxide indicates magma is near the surface.

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is released from a volcano when magma is relatively near the surface.

If SO2 is detected at a non-erupting volcano, it could be a sign that it will erupt soon.

Monitoring for VOG or SO2 alerts would be a good thing to do.

If the warnings go up for high SO2 it wouldn't be a good idea to venture into that area where the alert is active. Get yourself and pets out of the area during an alert.

Quote Question: What do the following things have in common?

    1. Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano.
    2. The Mare Orientale, the huge geological structure on the far side of the Moon.
    3. Planet Mars’ Olympus Mons, the solar system’s largest volcano.
    4. The Great Red Spot on Jupiter.5. The Great Blue Spot on Neptune.

Answer: They are all located at or very near to 19.5º latitude of their respective planets.

According to an interesting idea first advanced by Richard Hoagland in the 1990s, 19.5º is the latitude where the hypothetical tips of a merkaba (two tetrahedrons interlocked within an inscribed sphere) would be located relative to their polar tips. Hoagland proposed that these spots might be vortices that indicate how the hyperdimensional aspects of planetary bodies are expressed along tetrahedral lines as their energies are stepped-down into 3D. It’s a trippy idea to ponder, as Kilauea’s recent activity has caused 1,800 people to be evacuated from their homes, with no sign of slowing down.

Physics Girl, who was born and raised in Hawaii uses accepted geophysics to explain the anomaly that is the Hawaiian Island chain, which is part of the larger Emperor Seamount Chain that’s over 3,600 miles (5,800 km) long and terminates at the Aleutian Trench off the coast of Siberia.

While most volcanoes are created by geological activity at tectonic plate boundaries, the Hawaii Hotspot is located at the center of the Pacific Plate and is generally thought to remain static as Continental Drift moves the plate across it in an island-making assembly line.

That’s the official explanation. There’s lots of very cool geophysics to gnaw on in this piece. Mainstream geophysics is psychedelic enough, without getting into Hoagland’s tetrahedral-hyperdimensional physics or the Expanding Earth Hypothesis – but the fact that the Hawaiian Hotspot is located near 19.5º N and in the middle of the Pacific Plate, in same the region of the planet that has seen the greatest degree of expansion, per the Expando-Earth model and is accepted as having the greatest amount of oceanic crust that is under 10 million years old due to Seafloor Spreading – all makes me wonder if there’s a relationship between of the bulk of Earth’s expansion having occurred in this region, the Hawaiian Hotspot and hyperdimensional physics.

It would be fun if someone could come up with a Theory of Everything that would link hyperdimensional physics, the Expanding Earth Hypothesis and Plasma Cosmology (aka the Electric Universe) – and I wonder if that would be the TOE that the Atlanteans knew and that advanced aliens and the Breakaway Civilization know now!

This is from last week but still relevant. He is talking about the Hilina Slump, a large strip of land on the south flank of the volcano which is ever moving towards the ocean, that no one else seems to be talking about. Two weeks ago the 6.9 quake caused it to shift 2 feet.

May 12, 2018: A major geological event is still ongoing in Hawaii as the South Flank of the Kilauea Volcano has moved 2ft towards the sea! GPS confirmed as lava and quakes continue. Be safe...

A comment from one viewer: This is the reason they brought the Geophysicist from California to Hawaii about a week ago. He was the USGS HVO head scientist for Kilauea some years ago and moved to California to study the volcanoes in California for USGS. He is one of the top Geophysicists on volcanoes. They are also keeping an eye on the fact that if the lava keeps depleting, there could be a caldera collapse. Which in turn would cause a large magnitude earthquake possibly causing the Hilina to break off. The least of their worries is the fact that water can enter the volcano tube creating steam explosions. Yes those are scary and cause problems, but not as scary as the real threat that can happen. I am glad you brought this to peoples attention, I just hope everyone living on the big island pays attention to what is really going on, and has a plan just in case this goes south. All of this doesn't mean it is going to happen, it just means stay diligent on your surroundings. Not writing this to scare people, people just need to know the possibilities. Let all hope Kilauea stops draining like she is.

Where I live there is no activity, it's about 8 miles away, but we do get some of the SO2 gas from time to time. We can hear some of the booming from the lava activity in Leilani though it has quieted down a bit from this morning. Saturday night, early Sunday morning it was so loud the local dogs were barking for hours till it quieted.

Many local people are saying that we aren't getting the whole story and this seems to be at least part of it.

    This is the latest report:

Hawaii residents are facing a new threat from the Kilauea volcano as lava has begun to flow into the ocean, creating an acutely acidic side-product called ‘laze.’

Laze, incorporating the words ‘lava’ and ‘haze,’ is a mix of hydrochloric acid, steam and fine glass particles. It is created when super-hot lava hits the cooler sea water. It can cause lung, eye and skin irritation.

Civil defense authorities are warning residents to stay away from any lava stream entering the ocean. "Be aware that the laze plume travels with the wind and can change direction without warning," officials said.

Two lava flows have poured into the ocean near MacKenzie State Park, leading authorities to block access to the area. The US Coast Guard is continuing to monitor the situation.

Northeasterly winds are expected to confine the risk of exposure to laze to the southern and western portions of Hawaii's Big Island this week, according to Accuweather. The latest threat follows reports of the first direct injury from a lava flow, when a man was seriously injured on the balcony of his own home after being struck by a lava splatter.

More than 20 fissures have opened since the volcano’s latest burst of activity began on May 3. Thousands of residents have been evacuated and at least two dozen homes, along with several other structures, have been destroyed by lava.

Did fracking cause the Hawaii volcano eruption?

by Jon Rappoport May 22, 2018

On the Big Island of Hawaii, where the Kilauea volcano has explosively erupted, there is a geothermal energy plant. It is the Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) Plant, in Puna.

There is a long-running debate about whether PGV is fracking. The debate may be a matter of terminology, because in the geothermal process, as hawaiifracking.com reports,
“…the drilling and the injection of cold water into hot rocks used in geothermal energy plants does fracture the rocks, which can induce earthquakes and through contamination of the atmosphere and water tables can affect our health and safety.”
Whether deep injection of fluid aims to capture oil, gas, or heat (geothermal), the beginning stage of the process is the same.

Earthquakes induced by this water-injection could obviously trigger a volcano.

For example, here is an alarming article about a geothermal project in Switzerland.

    Swissinfo.ch, December 10, 2009:
“The authorities in canton Basel City say they will cancel a geothermal energy project, which three years ago caused minor tremors that damaged many buildings.”
“A risk analysis study published on Thursday found that the danger of setting off more earthquakes was too great if drilling at the site resumed.”
“The project was put on hold three years ago after thousands of claims for damage were filed with insurers. Total costs for the damage were around SFr9 million ($8.78 million).”
“The study, commissioned by the canton, concluded that Basel was ‘unfavourable’ for geothermal power generation.”
“It said the resumption of Deep Heat Mining project and its operation over a 30-year period could set off around 200 tremors with a strength of up to 4.5 on the Richter Scale – in 2006, the quakes were about 3.4.”
“This would result in damages up to SFr40 million.”
“The Basel facility drilled five kilometres into the earth. The borehole was designed to be injected with water to capture the extreme heat. Back at the surface, the hot water – at a temperature of around 160° Celsius – would run a steam turbine coupled with a generator.”
This Swiss article outlines the risks, and also confirms that deep water-injection is used in the geothermal process—which can and does trigger earthquakes.

Here is another reference—The Guardian, July 11, 2013:
“Pumping water underground at geothermal power plants can lead to dangerous earthquakes even in regions not prone to tremors, according to scientists.”
“Prof Emily Brodsky, who led a study of earthquakes at a geothermal power plant in California, said: ‘For scientists to make themselves useful in this field we need to be able to tell operators how many gallons of water they can pump into the ground in a particular location and how many earthquakes that will produce’.”
“It is already known that pumping large quantities of water underground can induce minor earthquakes near to geothermal power generation and fracking sites. However, the new evidence reveals the potential for much larger earthquakes, of magnitude 4 or 5, related to the weakening of pre-existing underground faults through increased fluid pressure.”
“The water injection appears to prime cracks in the rock, making them vulnerable to triggering by tremors from earthquakes thousands of miles away. Nicholas van der Elst, the lead author on one of three studies published on Thursday in the journal Science, said: ‘These [injected] fluids are driving [earthquake] faults to their tipping point’.”
“The analysis of the Californian site showed that for a net injection of 500m gallons of water into the ground per month, there is an earthquake on average every 11 days.”
“Heather Savage, a co-author on the same study said: ‘It is already accepted that when we have very large earthquakes seismic waves travel all over the globe, but even though the waves are small when they reach the other side of the world, they still shake faults [such as the faults induced by geothermal water-injection]. This can trigger seismicity in seismically active areas SUCH AS VOLCANOES where there is already a high fluid pressure.” (emphasis added)
So, on the Big Island of Hawaii, where there is a massive volcanic eruption underway, there is a geothermal plant, PGV. How close to the volcano is PGV?

    The Washington Post, May 12:
“Long a concern for residents and the target of lawsuits challenging its placement ON AN ACTIVE VOLCANO, the Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) is a major safety issue [i.e., chemicals stored at PGV] in the wake of the eruptions and earthquakes that have shaken the Big Island for days, government officials say.” (emphasis added)
I see. PGV is ON the volcano. Other reports claim PGV is 15 miles from the volcano. In either case, PGV is close, very close.

Who owns PGV? Ormat Technologies. Through internal merger and stock swapping, Ormat appears to be a jointly owned Israeli and US company now.

Ormat is no stranger to scandals. At blog.heartland.org, H Sterling Burnett writes (4/1/15):
"One scandal that could haunt [Harry] Reid for his remaining time in the Senate (and possibly beyond) was reported on recently in the Washington Free Beacon and Courthouse News. It seems the Reid helped the green energy company, Ormat Technologies, a firm that owns and manages geothermal plants in California and Hawaii, secure nearly $136 million in economic stimulus funding from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”
“Two former employees are suing the firm, claiming Ormat executives defrauded the United States of more than $130 million by reporting false information about two projects to get government grants, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.”
“Reid’s ties to Ormat are deep. The company runs geothermal plants in Nevada and Reid has been a big booster of the company in D.C. As reported in the Free Beacon, ‘Reid bragged about securing Ormat a $350 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy (DOE) and took credit for expanding the Treasury program that the former employees say illicitly provided Ormat with millions more in taxpayer funds’.”
“It is also worth noting that Ormat’s DOE award came a year after investors sued the company for allegedly inflating its stock price through ‘fraudulent accounting and overstated financial results.’ Ormat settled the allegations in 2012 for $3.1 million.”
Ormat potentially faces a much larger scandal now.

A massive volcanic eruption on the Island of Hawaii.

Default Re: Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupts, prompting mandatory evacuations

    An update from Jim Stone:
Kiluea - Lava is now entering geothermal power plant

The facility provides 25 percent of the electricity to the big island

There is a geothermal power station in the eruption zone, and up until now it was spared because the lava surfacing was old, cool, and thick so it did not flow well. A couple days ago, new lava made it's way to the surface and is much hotter and flowing much faster, which allowed it to spread out and cover more area. As a result, the rate of destruction is far more than before, and a geothermal power facility is now taking on lava.

Nothing critical is hit yet, but it is on the property and getting close.

The facility has been shut down in preparation for getting sunk under lava. Adding to the problem is the fact that the site has heated up underground due to the recent eruption, and pressures are much harder to control.

According to Dutchsince's latest video a 3.7 earthquake struck on the flanks of the Mauna Loa volcano (also on the big island) earlier today. He feels this could be significant. Begins at 4:00 mark.

Blessed are the cracked, for they are the ones who let in the light!
