    Magical
    Authentic
    Conscientious

I read this to my friend
Quote I rescue all living things if I can, whether large or extremely tiny.
and said “who does that remind you of?” and he said “yeah but I don’t envision him getting as stressed out about it as you do, like when you’re getting ants off caterpillars”.

    ...delightful thread, Val.

Care is a good thing. I've been known to rescue earthworms who get "caught" on hot pavement.

My niece, who is 13, and two of her friends spent the night last night.

I was in the house doing chores as she and her two friends were talking. She said something. I asked her to repeat what she said.

She said "I think ya'll are the best generation."

    I swear to God she said that. She's 13. I'm 56.

    Here's to our generation.

    Empathic
    A very good listener
An ability to see all the many sides of a coin.....which can be a real pain!

And yes, Valerie, I too rescue little critters....my forte are snails who are foolishly crossing the pavement in front of me on wet days. My whole walking - to - work experience threatens to be taken up with scooping up all the little brats as I go along, but after the 10th snail or so, I just give it up as doomed exercise. There are so many of the damn things...!

    Three good things.
    1. I can change opinions based on new information that invalidate older information.
    2. I think about the future and reflect, like a lot.
    3. I try as much as possible to find myself in others, including other creatures and things.

Since this is my thread and I can say whatever I want, I will.

Rachel calling me Val in another thread, prompted this post.

I am absolutely tickled that almost everyone on this forum reverted to my nickname and just call me Val.

It's my thread and I can say what I want. Ya'll make me smile.

I was asked very kindly by a member to change my avatar, as the other one I had, of Lady Godiva, had bad connotations for them. I found a fairly recent photo very quickly to upload. I may change it later, but for now this is what it is.

Did you know that public defenders in Louisiana, though mandated by federal law, are not considered government employees and therefore are not subject to having any government "perks" or even a 401K?

I just found this out this evening from a good friend, whose husband is a public defender.

However, anyone working for the District Attorney's office IS considered a government employee.

In other words, those who prosecute for the government get governmental perks and protection, but those who defend the poor and indigent, do not.

Dismaying but why should that surprise you Val? Just goes to show you that "the people," especially the poor, are deemed outside the circle, and those that defend them only a notch or two above them. Remember the West Memphis 3 ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_Three

I just watched the Paradise Lost trilogy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradi...bin_Hood_Hills What a heartbreaker that story was, though it did have a bitter-sweet ending. Eighteen years in prison with no evidence against them. Oh, they listened to Metallica. And wore black. And were trailer park kids from broken families. Jason Baldwin, the younger of that trio, was quite an amazing young man, as I learned. And he is now helping those in similar situations to himself -- http://proclaimjustice.org/about-us/ Very inspiring.
