I have netflix. I love netflix. Here are a few of my favourite shows in the last three months....

Amazing documentary if anyone has any personal anecdotes I would be very interested.

I wanted to hate it, at parts I did, but in General it was incredibly educative, loved it.

Wow. This really opened my eyes to Adderall.

My only issue with Netflix is why in the hell did I not buy stock when it was down to a dollar or two a share - as a satisfied rural DVD-by-mail customer at the time I loved the service.

Could have retired by now on just 2 stocks - Netflix and Amazon, which I sold about 1600 percent ago.

Seriously though, if you are rural with a relatively poor internet connection and prefer Blue Ray quality movies on your home system, it's a great service. I don't pay for the streaming service, maybe all these outrages come from there?
Yes, I was only talking about the streaming service. The DVD service gives you whatever you want. Streaming is more limited.

I don't intend to be cruel nor am I attempting to hurt anyone's feelings, but I have to wonder what has happened to this forum? IF anyone had dared to start a thread of this nature in 2011 ? Not only would Bill have lambasted them for trivializing a thinking persons forum, he probably would have also kicked them out of his living room. It's a pity that one of the few places where one could engage in quality discourse seems to be losing its way.

I cancelled my Netflix right after they started geo-blocking. The content in US-Netflix was very nice but of course the movie studios were too greedy and demanded that something must be done, so Netflix started blocking all those who used VPN to access content in other countries. Wish they didn't because I would still gladly pay 10€ of both, US and Finnish sides of Netflix. After all, I did pay it for 2 years. Now it's my stepfather's Netflix plus seedbox and torrents. Best of both worlds I guess.

Thanks AriG your post didn’t seem cruel or offensive to me With all of the work on the farm that needs to be done, I wouldn’t have time for Netflix. I consider Netflix to be a pop culture thing, just like ancient aliens (no offense intended to anyone that enjoys these programs).

I wasn’t around Avalon in 2011, unfortunately, but I did notice this thread was posted in the “movies, tv, books, and popular culture” sub forum, so technically speaking, a thread designed to ask the question about cancelling a lamestream channel serves a place in a thinking persons forum. But I’m not Bill so I could be totally wrong.

On a total whim, your post inspired me to take a gander in the time machine. In looking back at 2010’s posts in this sub forum , I see a couple threads that escaped the delete key, one on ancient aliens, one on waking life, and another on “what the bleep do we know?” But in scouting through all those 8 year old posts, I came up with some really good ones! Most notably the entire pdf to project blue book and 6 ways mushrooms can save the world. I could probably engage in quality discourse about the benefits of edible, gourmet mushroom cultivation for hours. Thanks for steering me in that direction

Wild Country was brilliant. Documentary making at its most masterful - giving all sides to a story.

I like Netflix too Sunwings but sometimes I could do with switching it off as well - what with no time keeper clock or ads and succumbing to the urge to keep watching a whole series in one sitting. OMG - I’m cactus

Nonetheless - I am glad I watched the Mars series recently. Makes you think what leaving this planet could really mean.

I realize quitting Netflix is the politically correct thing to do now, but I've been enjoying this series a lot; though it wasn't one of their productions, they've made it available to subscribers:

Quote After highly developed, lifelike service robots known as Synths become available to average families, the sentient machines' behavior soon begins to transform the lifestyles of their human owners.
    https://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/Humans...rkid=201891639

Season 1 was full of interesting metaphors regarding what AI might become, and I'm only just now into Season 2, but it looks like it's going to become more violent judging from the Season 3 trailer. I just hope it's not prophetic, but it's always good to have warnings about what might be, and scifi writers seem to be our best prophets these days.
My Netflix subscription is very minimal--I just get DVDs mailed to me, so I'm not familiar with the programs they are making themselves, but they have an enormous library of Indie films and otherwise difficult to find productions. The trick is to know what your are looking for beforehand.

Streaming movies from big name companies and downloading torrents is entirely avoidable, in my experience. There are sites that allow you to search and stream practically any movie you'd like (that I use), free of charge. Save a buck or two, and check out sites such as www dot solarmovie dot sc, or www dot putlocker dot to. If you're looking to stream shows, whether they air on public tv, or HBO, etc, try a site such as www dot dwatchseries dot to. There are many sites such as these that allow one to circumvent having to fill the pockets of the Man. I would recommend adBlock, or any decent ad blocking service, as the popups and ads can be pesky if you have to deal with them. Cheers!

Well hello neighbor! Well sort of! We also have a farm here in the bluegrass region of North Central Ky. it's not our full endeavor but we have goats, sheep, chickens, bees, market gardens and a growing lavender concern. I am an executive courier and my husband is with a local tech co, so we completely understand the emotion about having enough time. SO our choices must be prudent regarding what we allow into our fatigued grey matter. I love this forum. I haven't contributed much as of late but I read as much as I can. I do wish that Bill would get back into interviews- he's a great interviewer who can get to the point while still being courteous. I admire that. That said? piss him off and watch out. NO doubt like most people who still have a soul. I just wish that this forum were not so diluted. So much chatter. I would liken it to a restaurant with 50 items on the menu versus one with ten. You know that the limited menu is going to be high quality. I guess that was my point. GLad that my angst helped you find some quality archived threads! There is good stuff here and as usual I am waiting in a charter flight and typing this on my phone so please forgive the typos? Best Wishes!

Can the mods quote Joe from the Carolinas I. This post please? I also forgot my spectacles! Can't see the quote thingy! ( what a drag it is getting ...)
    From Bill: sure, done.

I've had Netflix for almost 20 years and I'm getting tired of all the newer shows that glorify criminality and depravity in the last few years. It's either super-soldier propaganda (comic book crap) or some kind of depravity. After that, it's whatever they can buy cheap, like foreign movies and BBC shows. Not a lot of memorable movies to re-watch, and they don't stay long because they cost too much. Hollywood in general is out of ideas so it's endless reboots (and now she-boots) of classic movies. Bereft of creativity, Hollywood just wants to socially engineer the population into being as depraved as they are. I'm always surprised at people who don't notice the media has an agenda. And lately it's too satanic for my taste.
As somebody who has been around comic books for as much time as you had used Netflix as a service, I have to say I'm very disappointed in the conjecture you are making about them, as that's not what they are about. They always had social commentary and dared to ask unsettling but ultimately true questions about human nature and not to mention the sea of "what if" scenarios embedded throughout its history. Especially today, and especially with indie comics.

As far as criminality and depravity, I can't speak unless I know the examples of what you talk about. House of Cards? Blacklist? What?

As far as Hollywood and the agenda, I don't think there is a soul on this forum that thinks anyone there is a saint or that they have no hidden motives or agenda fleshing out through their movies or through TV-shows. But not every movie or TV-show is part of that, and that's not something every soul on these boards or elsewhere is willing to admit and accept, even though it's fact.

    Quote Posted by TomKat (here)
If you're not into comic books or young people with super powers, war and terrorism, drugs and depravity, homosexuality, bad Asian movies, bad stand-up comedy, crime scene soap operas in hushed tones, and various low-budget straight-to-video movies, is there anything left on Netflix?

I've been through all the Black Mirror, Blue Bloods, Madam Secretary, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Cheers, Friends, Fraser and the few other classic shows worth watching, and I'm thinking it's maybe time to just drop the service. There might be a few Rock & Roll documentaries to watch...

    Anyone else feel the same?
There's plenty left, but you haven't looked for it. There's ample documentaries on topics that fit right at home with topics discussed here on the forum. What about those?

As far as the rest goes - Not sure why you have anything against any kind of media with LGBT themes or characters in it? It's not like a gun is put to your head and you have to watch it. If you see it on Netflix, you ignore it, you catch it on TV, you change the channel, simple as that. Nobody says you have to like and accept LGBT stuff just because most of the world is now less judgmental about it. But whining about something you can easily tune out is bizarre to me.

Some food for thought, to you and others who feel the same about Netflix (and the rest you mentioned):

First, you are one 't' away on that nickname to bear the name of one of the most famous gay porn stars of all time that has graced the screens of backlit computers of gay night owls in need of a release of energy.

Second, Netflix works by employing an extremely and continually advanced algorithms to select specific content tailored to the taste of its individual users. I would even dare to say by the deeds and results, its content suggestion algorithms are stronger than Amazon's at current time. So that means you are either using Netflix wrong, or you my pal, are not telling the whole story here and something else is going on. You don't get the stuff recommended there out of the blue. Just saying.

For instance, even though I'm gay, I don't tend to watch LGBT themed films or TV-shows, and the only such recommendation came to me in the form of Sense8, a show that deals with super-human abilities but also featuring lead LGBT characters, or at least some of the cast is, the rest are hetero. And this must be the case because I watch superhero TV-shows there and have watched all available content there on the Wachowskis, so the algorithm combined the two in recommending Sense8, who they made happen.

If you haven't seen it already, I would recommend Stranger Things, its a lovely crafted story that kind of echoes the Montauk Project in some retro-sci-fi attire. Very much worth watching.

Generally the people on this site are intrigued by the same genre of information as myself so I highly recommend switching from Netflix/HULU to Gaia.com. Gaia only publishes esoteric type information and there's a huge variety of topics so I haven't run out of things to find. The membership costs $20 for 3 months initially then $9.99 after that.
My favorite show so far is Psychedlica which dedicates each episode to explaining the history and science behind each hallucinogen; the best part about this particular show is that a lot of the episodes explain how to achieve the enlightened experienced acquired from hallucinogens WITHOUT "drugs". There's an episode about monks meditating in the dark for several days and a chemical is released in the brain that produces the same affects. There's also an episode about interacting with the dream world because it's believed that DMT is what causes our dreams and DMT is a hallucinogen.

Anyways, there's a search bar where you type in any word and it gives you documentaries and movies to choose from. I'm sure some of you have heard of David Wilcock; he has his own show and there seems to be a new episode from him everyday.
    Gaia Recommendations:
What the Bleep do we Know (A movie about word vibrations creating reality)
Buzzfeed (TV show focusing on explaining historical sites and current scientific discoveries)
If you're into astrology just type in the word and the information is better than reading a book
    Connecting with Universal Consciousness
    PHI
    Endless amounts of Yoga tutorials

There is a ton of documentaries and shows I can't think of right now but the site always prompts new information and when you log in it gives you 20+ topics to search through or exclude so it's way easier to find something than with Netflix. I hope this helps some of you find quality entertainment without brain rotting!

There has been information coming out about Gaia tv and folks may want to be informed about that. Besides information on this forum, here is a recent video that speaks to what is going on there:

Especially from 16:00 mark to get the gist of it. I hope this information is helpful.

People are paying attention to truth, motives, and principles. That's also why some are choosing to leave Netflix. It's not just about what's available, but how they operate, who is behind them, and what their true motives are.

    Principles.

Hey there TomKat, I have Netflix. It's great. The comedians profiled are: Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Norm MacDonald, Chris Rock, Martin Short, Steve Martin....the list goes on and on. That's about as good as it gets man. Who would you prefer instead? Gallagher???

I don't think 'The Godfather' was a low budget movie that went straight to TV. Nor 'The Departed'. Nor 'The King's Speech'. Nor 'Lincoln'. Nor 'Dallas Buyers Club'. Nor 'Full Metal Jacket'. Nor 'Michael Clayton'. Nor 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. Nor 'The Truman Show'. Nor 'Blood Diamond'. Nor 'Gangs Of New York'. Nor 'Eyes Wide Shut'...

    Shall I go on?

Oh, and I've had Netlflix for about a year, and I've yet to run in to any of those meddlesome homosexuals you speak of. Nor have I seen any "bad Asian movies". I don't think I've seen any Asian movies, actually...good or bad. Wait a second...let me guess, you're a Trump guy? Well, there's a documentary on him too.

Yep, besides a plethora of classic movies and tv shows, and the world's top comedians past n present, and award winning documentaries with topics ranging from everything A-Z, there's very little that Netflix offers. Very little...
I'm with you Mike! I think Netflix is kinda great. I'm really impressed with the continual flow of original and quality shows they've come out with in the last 2 years. Filmmakers from all over the world with informative and entertaining content. I don't look for the crap only the good stuff. I'm speaking about Netflix original series here but there are other quality shows as well.

Check out "The Magic Pill", The Staircase, The Keepers, to name a few well done and informative documentary style films. I thought Stranger things was pretty good. They've really gone through a dramatic change in the last 2 years I think. Maybe its all that Soros money. I guess it depends on what your tastes are but I find a wide variety there. I had Amazon Prime for a bit and I don't think what they offer is as good.

Oh, Netflix has some good, contemporary foreign films as well but you need to be in the mood to read subtitles.

    Hi Mike, I LOL'd.
You did not say Gabriel Iglesias aka Fluffy! Check out his Aloha Fluffy if you haven't seen it, the part about where he gets invited to Saudi Arabia by a prince is just great!

The trick (just as on YouTube, or any media of any kind) is not to browse, but to focus on and search actively only for things one knows of and wants to find. (That way, Tom, you'll not get upset by material you don't actually want to watch.)
Totally agree. In the case if Netflix though, it's a bit harder because it slaps stuff in your face. For example just yesterday at my friend's place, David Spade is right there as the background. We were going to watch some Voltron, but Trailer for "Father of the Year" starts playing when we scroll up. It was pretty funny! We ended up watching all of it, and being impressed at how intelligent Netflix is.

I suppose the days of the DVD are done . It'll be the same for this type of platform eventually . Holograms will be the next big thing for the populace as a multi-media norm.

Hi Petra, omg, Voltron! I've watched some of it too recently. It was always my favorite as a boy. It was cancelled so suddenly; one day it was there and the next it was gone. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say I was traumatized. I had all 5 lions (my Dad was very frugal, so it took 2 birthdays and a Christmas to achieve this miraculous feat) and as far as my 8 year old mind was concerned, my life goals were now complete. God bless Netflix for bringing it back.

Carmody, man I'd love to hear more about that if you'd be willing to share. Have you seen the documentary?

We love Netflix. We don't get our feeling hurt or become insulted by the content. There is a ton of content from which to choose.

Obama is about to join Netflix and start producing shows about race. You wouldn't want to miss that would you?
