My favourite era for music was the 1980’s. By the 1990’s, I was in major work mode and music was more in the background. I remember feeling quite miffed when CD’s replaced Vinyl LP’s—likely around this time period?

I probably like this one because it sounds like the ‘80’s!

This one was released in 1993.

Jesse Cook’s debut album Tempest came out in 1995. This is a more recent version of that song.

Being a huge movie buff (more than music) some of my fondest memories of youth were BIG movie events, those opening nights of standing in line for hours and hours sampling the delights of the English weather. The queue for E.T. went down the road, around a corner, and down another road. Oh what fun.

Sometimes just a song, a theme, can take you back to those very moments, like this one, to the summer of '91, and hordes of nerds like me waiting to cram into the local cinema to finally see what we'd all been waiting for. The 7 year wait for a sequel to Terminator was finally at an end! I always think of that when I hear this.

I've always been unapologetically rock orientated, so let's get some!

DeDukshyn, I was a fan of Tom Cochrane too and went to one of his concerts.

Crosby, I listened to Sarah McLachlan a lot too. A bit of trivia—Sarah was adopted. Her adoptive father was a distant cousin of my Dad’s; his grandmother was married in our house years ago—back when people got married at home. I think she was a school teacher who moved from Ontario to North Dakota; from there, some of the family went to Washington state. Sarah’s dad went to Nova Scotia where he and his wife adopted Sarah. I believe Sarah now lives in Vancouver, B.C. I’ve never met her.

Canadians will likely remember this one from 1991.

This one is from 1992. Sadly, the video’s theme of missing children still seems fresh.

And you can’t talk about ‘90’s music without The Smashing Pumpkins. This one’s from 1993.

    WOW!!!

This really was a seminal decade- it is all coming back.
There really were so many great bands, Nirvana, Massive Attack, Moby, Radiohead, The Verve, Blur, Oasis, A Tribe called quest, Pulp etc etc.
we have subcontracted the business of healing people to Companies who profit from sickness.

Great music, Chanie. I still love all of those.

Here's one song I always adored:

Wash it in the sea let it soak all night
Wash it in the sea let the saltwater wash it away
Soak it in bleach till its white on white
Soak it in bleach till the blood just washes away

Hang it in the wind let it blow all night
Hang it up high, let the high wind blow it away
Hang it in the wind let the sun burn bright
Hang it in the wind till the blood just washes away

    I have waited wasted years
For the child that's come and gone today
    I wasted all this fear
How can I just turn and wash it away
If I can then I will wash it away
If she can then she will wash it away
If I can then I will wash it away
If she can then she will wash it away

Forty years spent one by one
Forty years of life just slipping away
What I’d give for a firstborn son
Forty years of blood just washing away

    I have waited wasted lives
I have waited long enough I’d say
Say what about, what about, what about, what about
How can I just turn and wash it away
If I can then I will wash it away
If she can then she will was it away
If I can then I will wash it away
If she can then she will was it away

    So send me an angel
Send me the ghost that I was
    Just send me an angel
Send me the ghost that I was
That I was, that I am. I will wash it away
    She will wash it away
I will wash it away if I can then I will, I will and I will
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey yeah, yeah. If I can then I will wash it away

Where have you gone, my Rosealia?
Into the crowd, he'll never find ya
    If you walk real fast
    And you stay down low
So many times, so many chances, this one could be your last

You say no, no, no, the fighting has left you tired
You say no, no, no, but the fighting goes on
Put on your mask, wearing your cape
Put on your mask, my Rosealia
Put on your mask, wearing your cape
Put on your mask, my Rosealia

What has he done, my senorita?
His kind of love is going to kill ya
    Do you fake a smile
    When you dodge the blows?
So many times, so many chances, this one could be your last

You say no, no, no, the fighting has left you tired
You say no, no, no, but the hurting goes on
Put on your mask, wearing your cape
Put on your mask, my Rosealia
Put on your mask, wearing your cape
Put on your mask, my Rosealia

Jealousy can rip your heart out
And jealousy can turn a hand into a fist

You say no, no, no, the fighting has left you tired
You say no, no, no, but the fighting goes on
Put on your mask, wearing your cape
Put on your mask, my Rosealia
Put on your mask, wearing your cape
Put on your mask, my Rosealia

    Put on your mask
    Wearing your cape, hey hey
    Put on your mask
    Wearing your cape
    My Rosealia

    Good choice, Patient!

To insert a video, copy the URL link to the video; then, click on the Insert Video icon—do you see the row of icons on top of your reply screen? B, I, U etc? The video icon is two to the right of the little envelope icon.

Click on that. A box should pop up. Paste the URL link into the box and click okay. That should do it. Hope that helps. I know I have to use the FAQ button on the top right of the screen A LOT!

I so love Hootie and the Blowfish. When they played the Grammy's and won album of the year, Darius Rucker's face was priceless. Like, what the **** am I doing here? He has such a beautiful voice.

Man, that's a good one. I once accused my son of borrowing that one out of my car because I couldn't find it. I found it after he died. I'm sure he thought that was hysterical. He had a brilliant sense of humor.

I’m sorry about your son and fiance, Valerie. You’ve had more than your fair share of sadness, but it’s nice that you can find some solace in music. Mike is right that it has the power to transport us back to an earlier place and time.

I liked the story about your son and the missing CD. Sounds like he either decided to return it or find it for you after he died—knowing that you'd make the connection and smile.

With all that’s going on in the world, I find this discussion about 90’s music to be rather soothing—the songs that everyone is posting are transporting me back to a time when the biggest thing I had to worry about was learning how to use a new-fangled thing called a computer! I bought my first one in 1994, but was using them at work by the start of that decade.

The 1990’s was also the decade when I sat in a meeting and heard two managers say that “this world wide web thing” was just a fad and wouldn’t really catch on!

So, I was in this bar called the "Half Moon" in the Irish Channel in New Orleans during the nineties. The bar had been around since the early 1960's at least, because my Dad grew up on St. Andrew and this bar/restaurant was around the corner. You in England would call it a pub.

We used to go there to eat oysters on the half shell when I was just a little girl.

Fast forward to the nineties and I was there on St. Paddy's day. They had a jukebox and I found Beck's "Jack Ass". I played it over and over and a guy walked up to me and asked "Are you the one who keeps playing that song over and over?" Well aware that I was potentially going to be in a boxing match, I told him that yes, it was me playing that song over and over.

He smiled and said "Man, I love that song" and he walked away.
