“Macarena” by Los Del Rio came out in 1993 and changed wedding receptions forever.

This is a more recent video of that dance.

Richard Hawley. Best song, 'Hotel Room'.

    10:30 in this hotel room,
You and I locked in the gloom,
Lost out of love once again,
But I've got you here with me, Friend.

'Cause your here in my arms,
    here in my arms,
    here in my arms,
    here in my arms.

This sounds pretty romantic, right. It's not. Kind of a puzzle. If you know anything about Hawley the lyrics become clear.

Right, Crosby. I used to sing along with the lyrics while I worked around the house, thinking they were reaaalllly schmaltzy but I liked the melody so I forgave Hawley, the love sick balladeer! Then one day I listened more carefully after learning he had been a heroin addict. Tragic topic but it struck me as funny that Imjad it wrong for so long!

Tintin's (brief) adventures on Memory Lane

So, “The Smiths” disband in 1987/88 and what will fill this gaping void? (You can almost hear Morrissey singing that.)

It was the scent of cheap deodorant-post moshpit-marijuana smoke ---a trifecta of nares quivering overload and the dopamine rush to Sub Pop that thrilled and stirred the senses in this then 20-something, who was honing his song-writing craft –-- cutting his teeth on Beatles, Hendrix, Cream et al who took a Damascean left turn down a dark alley and occupied his time playing hop-scotch between the used needles, archaic chewed gum, sweat-stained T-shirts and blood and lipstick drenched copies of Dregs fanzine

Who needed to feed solipsistic musings until he retched; who devoured Melody Maker – who may just have fallen a little in love with Holly Hernandez.

Who had, and definitely did fall in love with ---and maybe still has doe eyed fantasies involving Katie Jane Garside.

Enter Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Screaming Trees, Smashing Pumpkins, Janes Addiction, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, RATM (and he never looked back over his shoulder, the one that wasn’t sporting avian graffiti), Raymond Pettibon, Black Flag.

Then he hears a familiar sound, closer to home, and cuts his hair.

Madchester (the scene), Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, Tricky, Massive Attack, Daisy Chainsaw, Portishead.

These were, and still are, a very few of my favourite things from that time – the actual list really is endless.

    In no particular order:

    “Nevermind” – Nirvana
    “Springtime” – Levellers 5
    “Goo” – Sonic Youth
    “Drink Me” – Queenadreens
    “OK Computer” – Radiohead
    “Little Earthquakes” – Tori Amos
“Rid of Me” – PJ Harvey
    “Siamese Dream” – Smashing Pumpkins
Ritual De Lo Habitual" – Janes Addiction
    “Pre Millenium Tension” – Tricky
“Fear of a Black Planet” – Public Enemy
    "Suede" - Suede
    "The Nymphs" - Nymphs
    "Puressence" (1996) - Puressence

Those in England certainly will remember that this track appeared in an advert for 'Guinness' at the back end of the nineties and one still has very fond memories of 'making shapessssssssss' to this on the dancefloor:

    "Phat Planet" - Leftfield

Quote I went and saw the band "Live" with my first love, and it's a lovely memory now.
I’m guessing from the timing that was the Throwing Copper tour? That album was huge in Australia.

Of course, when I made mention here that the list is really endless, was entirely true.

Here are the mighty My Bloody Valentine and their gorgeous album "Loveless" linked for your pleasure.

Prepare to suffocate and have a glorious sonic pillow fight while you're there. You won't regret it - promise (and I never ever usually make promises; they snap like raw, uncooked, spaghetti.)

MBV take you somewhere else, as all great music does

One of my first favorite songs was "No Coke" by the Nigerian-born Swedish dentist and artist Dr. Alban (1990):

And I`ll never forget the first time I heard "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson on the radio (1992):

Or "Sleeping Satellite" by Tasmin Archer (1992):

This was played every friday night at the local disco: "House of Love" by East 17 (1992):

And this was all before Haddaway asked "What is Love" (in 1993):

and Spin Doctors` "Two Princes" (1993):

R.E.M. with "Drive" also brings me straight back to the nineties:

    as do 2Pac`s "Dear Mama":

    and Biggie`s "Juicy":
