The Rolling Stone reporter there for that "photo op", was none other than Matt Taibbi, one of the very few true journalists we have have left in this country, he was there to cover the story. "very small guy" Sean Penn wasn't there for a photo op, he was there right along many other heroic civilians to help desperate people out of a desperate situation.

I implore everybdy to read Matt's piece entitled "Apocalypse in New Orleans", and see how far down you can get before your heart starts breaking into little tiny pieces...

Thank you Gracy. I lived through it. There were horrible, despicable, unspeakable things that happened here.

I wonder about a few of Sean Penn's connections and his intent. I don't know him personally, so I can't say. I will say he is a terrible writer, as was evidenced by the article he wrote for Rolling Stone on El Chapo, I believe.

He was also in Haiti for years after the earthquake. Sometimes, people are aiding and abetting things that not even they understand. Hollywood is a cesspool.

I used to admire Bono of U2. Not any more.

What I really am trying to say is just because you see some people doing some "heroic" things, it doesn't make them a hero. There is so much going on behind the scenes that I have learned about, through personal experience, research and reading. It's not easy to pull the blinders off.

I would much rather believe the poor man who gives his last dollar to a homeless person, to be a real hero.

Thank you for the clarification edit Valerie. To clarify myself, i'mnot saying Sean Penn is my hero, i'm saying that what he did in New Orleans was heroic as you already mentioned, along with many others who shall live out their days in obscurity. That's all.

Dont think i haven't wandered down these dark corridors myself, i just don't like pointing the automatic finger of guilt at some one just because they're from the Hollywood film industry. I think we need to be very, very, very careful with this sort of guilt by association.

Taking pictures with people like Gorbachev and Chavez doesn't mean anything either unless you don't like his politics. It's just a picture, and what he did in New Orleans is just what he did in New Orleans, as documented by Matt Taibbi.

Singer R. Kelly has been arrested in Chicago on federal sex crime charges, a U.S. Attorney's office spokesman told The Associated Press.

U.S. attorney spokesman Joseph Fitzpatrick says the 52-year-old Kelly was arrested Thursday night by NYPD detectives and Homeland Security Investigators. "The counts include child porn, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice," Fitzpatrick said, adding that further details would be released Friday.

The R&B singer already faces state sex-related charges in Illinois involving four women, three of whom were minors when the alleged abuse occurred. Last month, Kelly pleaded not guilty during a hearing in Chicago's Cook County court after being charged with aggravated sexual assault via force and threats, among other counts.

Born Robert Sylvester Kelly, the artist was previously charged in February with aggravated sexual abuse involving four victims, including at least three between the ages of 13 and 17. A jury in 2008 acquitted the singer of child pornography charges after a video allegedly featuring Kelly having sex with a girl as young as 13 was released. Kelly had faced 15 years in prison for that charge, but the young woman in that claim did not testify and did not confirm it was her in the video.

The singer's controversial past was also revisited with the Lifetime series Surviving R. Kelly which drew a big audience for Lifetime, averaging 2.1 million viewers for its initial airing and growing on each of the three nights it aired. Following the documentary's success, the network announced in April that it will have a follow-up special, Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact. The follow-up will examine how the three-part series, which aired in January, affected the conversation about sexual violence and popular culture at large.

Why does the public meekly and passively accept the grotesque and sinful inequality of wealth that has manifested itself just in the past few decades?

In 1987, Hollywood released “Wall Street”, a remarkably successful and effective piece of predictive programming that continues to hold its influence. It starred Michael Douglas (born and raised in the movie business) as Gordon Gekko, an ultra-wealthy and ruthless takeover artist in the world of high finance.

Screenwriter Oliver Stone based his main character partly on his stockbroker father and partly on a couple of crooks. Michael Milken was an American financier responsible for one of the largest swindles in history; his junk bond scam initiated the meltdown of the savings & loan industry in the 80's. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and released after two. (*cough*) He also used Ivan Boesky, convicted after the film's release of insider trading to the tune of 600 million dollars, who served three years and was released. (*cough*)

In 1986, Boesky spoke to the UC Berkeley’s School of Business Administration. He was a much admired, even revered, financier at the time. He said:

“Greed is all right, by the way. I want you to know that. I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself.”





In the 1987 film, Gekko/Douglas speaks to the shareholders of Teldar Paper, a company he wants to take over and gut. He says:

“I am not a destroyer of companies. I am a liberator of them. The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms – greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge – has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you.”

The shareholders give him a standing ovation.

It is said that the so-called Illuminati can justify their actions (to themselves, at least) by telling us what they're doing, however cryptically. Near the end of the movie, Gekko/Douglas delivers this little gem:

“The richest one percent of this country owns half our country’s wealth, five trillion dollars...We make the rules, pal. The news, war, peace, famine, upheaval, the price per paper clip. We pick that rabbit out of the hat while everybody sits out there wondering how the hell we did it. Now you’re not naive enough to think we’re living in a democracy, are you buddy?”

There are two numbers mentioned in this monologue. Since then, one has gotten smaller, while the other has gotten bigger. Considerably so, in both cases.
