"Box Office Meltdown: Why the Movie Business Is Running Scared"


It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

Heading into the new year, box office analysts were bullish that 2019 would beat, or at least match, the record-breaking success of last season. Followups to “Avengers,” “Secret Life of Pets” and “Godzilla” combined with reboots of storied franchises such as “Men in Black” and “Shaft” would elevate ticket sales to new heights, theater owners and studio executives predicted.

Alas, it was not to be.

Ticket sales are pacing 7% behind last year’s popcorn season, putting the year as a whole nearly 10% below the same frame in 2018. The indie market has also slid steeply, with some indie players reporting that ticket sales in the specialty space are down more than 30%.

Only Disney has reaped big profits. The studio controls nearly 40% of the US market share. It has made nearly seven times as much as Sony or Paramount, almost triple what Universal has racked up, and more than double what Warner Bros., its next closest rival, has generated.

This singer is permanently A list. Long before she was a singer though, she was an actress. An actress who was young. She started off as a tween. She doesn't like to talk about those years. The only thing she will ever say is she acted and what shows she was on.

Ask her what happened behind the scenes though and she won't say a word. I would argue that many of her choices to remain private and distant about her personal life stems from the time on those sets. Two in particular stand out because they shared an executive producer. This is a producer I have written about before who repeatedly sexually assaulted a star of one of the shows. He got her hooked on drugs so she would let him do things to her or have other people join in. She was a zombie.

What I haven't written about before is the long term molesting of the permanent A list singer which went on for almost five years. What had been this bubbly lively personality became so shy and withdrawn that it always took multiple takes for her scenes because she was so quiet and so fearful for what would happen after the scenes were shot. Because she had such a controlling monster as a parent, I wonder if she just accepted this controlling monster as her boss.

Oh no! Princess Beatrice had to cancel her uber-posh engagement party!

The bash was scheduled to take place next week, but Beatrice had to change the date of her engagement party at the Chiltern Firehouse because of fears there will be too many photographers outside!

The trendy venue choice picked by Beatrice and her fiancé Edo Mapelli Mozzi caused alarm among pals concerned it was far too high-profile given the sensitive time her family is going through! So, the couple decided to change the date in order for dad Prince Andrew to sneak in under the radar!

Then they decided to forgo a party altogether!

Cuba Gooding Jr accused of sex crimes by 7 more women, bringing total to 22

Manhattan prosecutors on Monday presented evidence Cuba Gooding Jr had unwanted sexual contact with seven more women, bringing to twenty-two the number of women who say the Academy Award-winning actor forcibly kissed, groped or sexually abused them.

The new accusations are similar to multiple accounts of sexual abuse previously detailed by Manhattan prosecutors.

Gooding’s lawyer, Mark Heller, said the “spurious, uncharged allegations are so ancient and outdated and lacking in details” that Gooding will have a hard time rebutting them.

Actually it's now quite clear that Enty is not a girl lawyer. He's got his own podcast so that kind of already rules it out. As for Mr. Greensocks, he/she failed to show up Grammys in green socks, plus all the info you can read from CDaN or somewhere else so might have been someone just having little fun.

It seems if you in the words of Katie Perry "made a deal with the devil" then the devil will collect as per contract.

So it might seem Rapper Juice Wrld dying 6 days (odd 3,6,9 significance ?) after his birthday maybe fulfilling a contractual obligation.

This classic movie actor pretends not to care about awards.

He actually does… but in a twisted way.

It’s not like he has never received a big award. He has. More than once. The last time he won was several decades ago. He works continuously, so why hasn’t he won any awards since then? Money!

He doesn’t actually seem to care what the project is. He always asks first about the money. How much will they pay? That’s why so many of his projects are crappy. The role comes second. He winds up playing the same character over and over. Then he complains when he doesn’t get nominated.

What does it take to hire him?

His base rate is one million dollars. If you want him on screen for even one minute, that will be a million dollars. Of course, it goes up from there.

Isn’t he already rich?

Yes, exes and mistresses and a whole mess of kids take up a lot of it. He’s always sinking money into projects and businesses. Not that he’s broke or even close. He is rich. It’s just that he could’ve had twice as much in the bank as he does now if he had been smarter about it.

So how does this emphasis on money impact his thinking about awards?

He pretends he doesn’t care, but he knows that if he was to get another Oscar, he could ask for a bigger salary. That’s why he’s a little pissed that he didn’t get a Golden Globes nomination. The Golden Globes diss mean that it’ll be harder for him to get an Oscar nom.

What is he like in real life?

He is not a nice person. Let’s just leave it there.

Survivor’ Boots Contestant Dan Spilo Following Off-Camera Incident

Hollywood talent manager Dan Spilo is the first “Survivor” contestant to be removed from the series following inappropriate behavior.

At the end of the Dec. 11 episode of “Survivor,” host Jeff Probst told players that Spilo would no longer be participarting in the game.
“Ok, so I just spoke privately with Dan and I want to update you guys,” he said. “A decision has been made and Dan will not be returning to the game. He won’t be coming back to camp. He won’t be on the jury. He’s gone.”

A title card followed the conclusion of the episode, which read, “Dan was removed from the game after a report of another incident, which happened off-camera and did not involve a player.” CBS declined to comment beyond the title card’s statement.

Throughout the current season of “Survivor,” its 39th, various female contestants expressed discomfort with Spilo’s inability to respect their space, numerous occurrences of which were captured on-camera. Contestant Kellee Kim asked Spilo to his face if he could better respect her wishes that he maintain a better distance. Spilo later apologized if anyone misinterpreted his physical conduct.
