Paris Screening Of Roman Polanski’s ‘An Officer And A Spy’ Shut Down By Protesters

A group of about 40 protesters blocked the entrance to a premiere of Roman Polanski’s An Officer And A Spy (J’Accuse) on Tuesday night in Paris, ultimately resulting in the screening’s cancellation. The group, dressed all in black and equipped with red smoke-generating canisters and placards bearing the names of women who have accused the director of rape, demonstrated for about an hour in front of the Le Champo cinema in the 5th arrondissement before the theater pulled the show.

Also on Tuesday, though without mentioning Polanski by name, French film industry association, ARP, released a statement saying it “strongly supports all victims of moral and sexual violence” and that it “must take into account that our professions, by the power they confer, can open the door to reprehensible excesses.”

The statement continued, that ARP “will propose to the next board of directors that, henceforth, any member found guilty of a sexual offense be excluded and that any member indicted for the same reason be suspended.” Polanski is currently a member of the organization.

Hillary Clinton distanced herself from Ronan Farrow when she found out the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist was investigating friend, megadonor, and serial sexual predator Harvey Weinstein.

The 31-year-old Farrow, who served as a special adviser to Clinton on global youth issues from 2011 - 2012, told the Financial Times that he and the former Secretary of State were close until 2017, when word leaked of his investigation that would ultimately bring down the movie mogul.

"It's remarkable how quickly even people with a long relationship with you will turn if you threaten the centers of power or sources of funding around them. Ultimately, there are a lot of people out there who operate in that way. They're beholden to powerful interests, you become radioactive very quickly."

Clinton publicist Nick Merrill told Farrow the Weinstein story was a 'concern for us' during Hillary's 2016 run for office - and that the campaign withheld access to Clinton for an interview on an unrelated foreign policy book he was working on.

Farrow recounted receiving a phone call from Weinstein directly. Weinstein 'went as below the belt as possible in terms of trying to dig up anything personal that he could to shake me in those moments'.  The producer even referenced Farrow's sister Dylan's accusations against their father, telling him: 'You couldn't save someone you love, and now you think you can save everyone.'

CNN's prime time hosts can only hope it will be better in the new building.

As CNN prepares to move its prime time studios and operations to a glitzy new building at New York City's brand new – and widely reviled – Hudson Yards development, the network saw its prime time lineup drop 26% in April compared to the same month one year ago. April ranks as CNN's lowest-rated month among total viewers in nearly four years, since October 2015.

None of CNN's prime time hours finished among the top five shows overall. CNN's top-rated hour, Cuomo Primetime, finished in 26th place. Among viewers 25-54, the demographic most coveted by national advertisers, the falloff for CNN was even more stark: down 41 percent.
