Default Discoveries that have transformed our understanding of human history

Recent discoveries have revealed that much of the traditional understanding of the human origin story is wrong.

Until the past few years, most anthropologists and archaeologists believed that the first members of our species — Homo sapiens — evolved in East Africa approximately 200,000 years ago .

As that story goes, humanity mostly remained in Africa for the next 140,000 years, then ventured forth as part of a major wave known as the "Out of Africa" migration approximately 60,000 years ago.

In this version of history, those early ancestors took over territories once occupied by less-advanced species, like the Neanderthals. Then humans reached North America about 25,000 years ago.

But this understanding of history has been thoroughly upended by a number of discoveries over the past few years.

There's less certainty now about how long ago modern humans truly evolved, when people spread around the world, and how we co-existed with a number of other hominid species. New findings suggest that many events happened much longer ago in history than researchers previously thought. The process of our own evolution — and our relationships with other co-existent hominin species — are also made messier by many of these discoveries.

Here are some of the recent discoveries that have begun to upend what we thought we knew about the human origin story.

The first Homo sapiens seem to have appeared more than 100,000 years earlier
than scientists previously thought — and in different locations.

Anthropologist Jean-Jacques Hublin shows a crushed human skull whose eye orbits are visible just beyond
    his fingertip.

In 2017, two scientific papers published in the journal Nature described an astounding find: the discovery of remains from Homo sapiens that were more than 300,000-year-old.

The bones were unearthed in Morocco, and showed that humans had been around for far longer than 200,000 years. The discovery was also evidence that our earliest ancestors may not have been located in just one area, since this showed that even the earliest members of our species were in North Africa, far from spots often considered the birthplace of humanity.

"There is no Garden of Eden in Africa, or if there is, it is all of Africa," anthropologist Jean-Jacques Hublin, who led the expedition to unearth the skulls, said at the time.

These discoveries helped lead to a new idea: perhaps Homo sapiens actually evolved
all over Africa in interlinked groups that became more similar over time.

Two views of a composite reconstruction of the earliest known Homo sapiens fossils from
    Jebel Irhoud in Morocco.

As a team of researchers described in a recent paper , groups of Homo sapiens may have evolved contemporaneously all over Africa, instead of just in one primary location.

Not all of these groups would have looked identical at the start, but they may have been close enough to all be considered Homo sapiens , even if they weren't the same as the modern versions of humanity.

So instead of first emerging in a site in East or South Africa (depending on which version of the traditional origin story you subscribe to) and then spreading from there, distantly related groups of humans across the continent could have become more similar over time.

Some early art that was previously attributed to Homo sapiens
    was really created by Neanderthals.

Neanderthal paintings can be seen in a cave in Pasiega.

We may not have been as different from other hominids as scientists used to think.

Even if Homo sapiens evolved before we thought, Neanderthals were around first, appearing in the fossil record at least 400,000 years back. Many researchers assumed those Homo neanderthalis were far more primitive than their later-evolving relatives. But new discoveries challenge that line of thinking.

Long before what researchers refer to as "modern" humans ever reached Europe, our Neanderthal cousins were creating cultural objects and painting in caves in Spain, according to several recently published studies .

The new research pinpointed when some of the first European art that we know of was created, and it turns out the visual work was happening before many places were settled by Homo sapiens. That indicates Neanderthals and early humans may have been very similar cognitively and culturally.

As all these findings show, there's a lot of the human origin story that we have yet to fully understand. Recent research has called into question traditional narratives about the history of our ancestors and the creatures we co-existed with. The reality seems to be messier and less straightforward than previously thought.

We're still finding traces of history buried away in caves or even in large analyses of our genetic code that weren't possible until recently.

We surely have much to learn.

if one has read the epic "Forbidden Archeaology" book by Michael Cremo/Richard Thompson we homo spapiens sapiens (as we're now labled) have existed long before we've been told-

and yes, we had a co-existence with dinosaurs but we go back even further- well, why NOT?- just because it doesn't fit into our history-given comfort zones?- please read the book- very revealing- certainly opened my eyes-

1000 Mile Long "Stone-age" Tunnel Beneath Europe

    Mystery History
    Published on Sep 15, 2018
"There have recently been some astonishing academically contradictory discoveries, unearthed throughout Europe.
Archaeologists have been discovering a network of underground tunnels, apparently, somehow cut throughout the stone age, which cover the territories of Spain, Turkey, and most of the European continent.
Their approximate age, according to funded archaeologists, is no less than 12 thousand years.
Yet how people living within the Stone Age, people without any form of metal tools or chisels, managed to cut thousands of miles of tunnel systems, is clearly a considerably contradictory mystery.
Thousands of underground tunnels stretching from Scotland to Turkey, that have predictably, placed the many submissive, order taking funded scientists throughout the academic world, at a dead end to explain.
However, if one presumes, as the evidence we share here on our channel often suggests, that a past, now lost, highly advanced civilisation, once flourished here on our earth, their creation is less of a challenge to explain.
Yet the purpose for their existence will remain an enigma.
Were they created by a group, attempting to hide from something?
Or possibly, they were ancient smuggling tunnels, left by members of this lost civilisation, once used to smuggle items from ancient settlement to settlement, found throughout Europe?
German archaeologist Dr. Heinrich Kush, in his book, Secrets of the Underground Doors to the Ancient World, states that the tunnels were dug beneath hundreds of Neolithic settlements, all across Europe, and the fact that so many tunnels have survived, indicates that the original network was much larger than that which still survives…
    Quote,
"In Bavaria alone, we discovered 700 meters of these underground tunnels.
In the Austrian Styria, we found 350, and Throughout Europe there were thousands of such tunnels, from the north of Scotland stretching to the Mediterranean itself."
    End quote.
The fact that these tunnels have been identified, as having been cut at least 12,000 years ago, should indicate to all those still with the capacity of critical thought, that they are undoubtedly far older than this, as to state that they were somehow cut by people with literally no tools at their disposal, to us, seems laughable.
The tunnels are all relatively narrow, being about 70 centimetres in width, just enough for an adult man to travel through.
In some places there are small rooms, storage chambers and seats, clearly indicating that these cave systems were used by a number of people at a time.
How did our ancient ancestors create such an awe-inspiring network of tunnels, without the utilization of some form of tunnelling equipment, lighting, and indeed smelted metal tools?
It is not surprising to us, or anyone who has paid attention to the limited tale of events, put forward by academia, that these tunnels remain a perplexing ancient artefact for them to explain, yet we feel, they are clear evidence of a past civilisation, having crudely cut these tunnels, possibly for some nefarious reason we are yet to unravel.
    They are undoubtedly, highly compelling."

Anyone with half a brain will challenge the official version of human history.
Like most on Avalon I have long had an interest in the Pyramids throughout the world--flying saucers described in detail in ancient India text.
    Stories of Atlantis.
How can anyone believe that the pyramids were built using copper tools to cut to such a high degree of accuracy--we could not build them today.?
We would have a challenge lifting some of the massive cut stones found.
The building of the Spinx dated incorrectly--many thousands of years older than stated.
It was built at a time when the area was lush with vegetation and a wetter environment as shown by the base of the Spinx.
Somehow there was an event --the flood perhaps-- that destroyed a lot of the evidence of an advanced civilization.
Now and then machined artifacts are found that were made far earlier than recorded history.

It looks like there are lots more fascinating vids on the Mystery History youtube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC9...4P5QDp9vk8EH-A
There doesn't seem to be any other alternative explanation for some of the huge carved stone anomalies other than that the ancients had metallic technological devices, yet no such devices have been found that I am aware of, and I don't recall ever hearing any theories about why that is, other than the ancient aliens who may have provided them took them along when they left the planet.
Perhaps they were found but melted down much later to make other things with.
Or would such objects made from metal, unlike stone, simply deteriorate over the eons?
And why is there virtually no art depicting such devices being used?
    It's very mysterious!
I wonder if remote viewers have attempted to fathom the mystery?

Golden Library" Found In Caves Built By Giants?
    Mystery History
    Published on Aug 18, 2018

    "
A little over a year ago, we shared the story surrounding a mysterious discovery, that was once claimed to have been made, deep within cave systems within Ecuador which some believe, were originally man made.
A discovery, that although now concealed from the world, was photographed, studied and documented, thanks to the array of artefacts, which had been amassed by an individual known as father Crespi.
An entire, seemingly alien metallic library, completed with hundreds of sheets of gold, platinum, and other precious metals, hammered out to reveal an astonishing, unknown language, clearly left by a people of tremendous capabilities.
The caves in which this find is claimed to have been made, is known as Cueva de los Tayos.
And although any such discovery is denied by the Ecuadorian authorities, the Ecuadorian and interesting united kingdom’s governments, funded an extensive search of the cave systems, soon after the claims became public.
It attracted the attention of numerous individual, who travelled into the depths of these caves, including Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon.
What we wish to focus on this video however, is the enormous, seemingly man-made caverns, which are to be found within the cave systems.
We feel, if these cave systems are indeed one day admitted, as having once been artificially hewn from the bedrock, then this would undeniably reveal tremendous flaws in academia’s claims, as to the geology and indeed true history of the area.
The cave system is so enormous, it has yet to be fully explored by modern man, yet what has been explored, has revealed highly compelling features, which corroborate earlier claims of an artificial origin.
The Moricz portal for example, named after Juan Moricz, the individual who claims to have originally discovered the metallic library, is clearly of an artificial nature.
The question is, why go to such lengths to construct this natural looking cave system?
Was it all created merely to hide this library?
And if so, how important could the information held within be?
And why did such a find, attract the attention of the first man on the moon?
Did the astronaut know something we are yet to discover?
Juan Moricz signed affidavit dated 8 July 1969, in which, he confessed to a meeting with the Ecuadorian president, where he received complete control over his discovery, provided he could produce photographic evidence, and an independent witness corroborating the discovery.

When Moricz met with von Däniken in 1972, he took him to a secret entrance, through which, they entered a large artificial hall within cave system.
Apparently, von Däniken never got to see the library itself, he wrote in his book, The Gold of the Gods: quote,

“The passages all form perfect right angles. Sometimes they are narrow, sometimes wide. The walls are smooth and often seem to be polished. The ceilings are flat and at times look as if they were covered with a kind of glaze… My doubts about the existence of the underground tunnels vanished as if by magic, and I felt tremendously happy. Moricz said passages like those extended for hundreds of miles, under the soils of Ecuador and Peru.” End quote.
It seems unquestionable whether sections of cuevas de los tayos, were indeed man-made, we feel the question now is, who went to these unimaginable efforts, so far back within history?
Why create such a place deep within the earth, with such an intended illusion of natural origin, if you did not seek to hide something.?
Many still believe that the truth, is still hidden deep inside its unexplored caverns, a truth that will force us to completely rewrite the history of mankind.
Even today, the caves remain the obsession of many explorers, seeking to find the answer to its artificially created blocks of stone.
Are the legends true surrounding Cuevos De Los Tayos?
Did it once indeed contain an ancient metallic library, left to us by an ancient civilisation?
We find the evidence to suggest so, highly compelling."

Fascinating, many thanks. There's a thread here about this, with a lot of info: (I've handled a couple of the metal plates myself, courtesy of Klaus Dona. They really exist.)

    * Note: this is also, without question, the cave that Emery Smith tried to refer to and claim he'd visited, without knowing a great deal about it — and then later tried to retract/correct himself. See this post.

Covering twice the area of the Parthenon in Athens and being half as high, Kailasa is an engineering marvel that was executed straight from the head with zero margin for error. Modern draughtsmen might have a lesson or two to learn here.

The Sudama and Lomas Rishi Caves at Barabar in Gya are amazing and represent the earliest example of rock-cut architecture in India.
The Sudama Cave consists of a circular vaulted chamber with a rectangular mandapa.
The Lomas Rishi Cave was carved out of a huge rounded granite rock and has an arch-like shape façade. The internal surface is highly polished.

In the video above featuring Graham Hancock (here):
    http://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...=1#post1251656
...Hancock talks about how meteors from the asteroid belt created by the Taurid meteor which destroyed advanced civilizations 12,800 years ago and again later 11,600 years ago, are still a danger.
He talks about evidence of where meteors have struck, including indications that such strikes have created phenomena that has not been well understood until recently.
Some conclusions appear to be wrong in light of that, which were drawn about those locations which appeared to have experienced ancient nuclear explosions.
Hancock says that may instead have been caused by the very destructive meteor strikes, damage which was even more severe and wide spread than previously thought.
He offers some interesting insights into Gobleki Tepi.
And I'm still only about halfway through the video.

    Hi onowah
I seem to remember reading that there was intense radiation at some of these sites---also in the Bagavadgita there is mention of horrifying weapons.
It all happened so long ago its a question sometimes best guess on the available information.
    Great thread

I have finished listening to Graham Hancock posted by onawah.
I would suggest listening to it as it really is relevant to where we are now in relationship to comets and past near annihilation of the human species.
    A well balanced talk

10,000 Year Old Civilisation Discovered in India | Ancient Architects
Archaeologists have unearthed thousands of ancient petroglyphs that could be linked to an unknown Indian civilisation from 10, 000 years ago. The incredible images, very reminiscent of the Nazca Lines in South America, were found hidden beneath the soil atop hillocks in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Experts believe the carvings, known as petroglyphs, were created by a hunter-gatherer community - because many of the images are drawings of animals, but of course at present this is just speculation. The discovery also suggests the civilisation could have migrated to India from Africa, as many of the animals are not native to the area, but were prevalent in Africa. Watch the video to find out more and to see the incredible pictures from the new archaeological site. All images are taken from Google Images for educational purposes only.

Lost Ancient High Technology In Peru

(These are all good examples of ancient, high tech civilizations that were apparently built upon by much later ones, and those were apparently destroyed by a cataclysm.)

Wow. Thank you for this video. There was not a mention of acustics in the presentation. But I just know by looking at this rock carving, that this place must have amazing acustics qualities. I could hear it as soon as I saw inside. Now I think this one is on my bucket list next time I visit India.

Edit. Plus the resent find in India video posted by Greybeard above. Graham would love to see that if he has not yet seen it.
