Emirates Plane Quarantined in New York After 100 Passengers On Board Reported Ill

An Emirates flight that landed at New York’s JFK airport Wednesday morning has been quarantined after about 100 passengers on board reported feeling ill.

The flight, an Airbus A380 arriving from Dubai, has 500 passengers on board on two levels, CBS reports.

The cause of the reported illness is not yet known, but the plane has been diverted to a holding area, where it was met by emergency response vehicles including officials from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

One passenger, Larry Coben, shared a photo on Twitter showing a line of responders’ vehicles lined up on the tarmac outside the plane.

Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was called to John F. Kennedy airport after Emirates Flight 203 landed about 9:20 a.m., New York City mayor's press secretary Eric Phillips tweeted.

Officials have not confirmed the number of people reported feeling ill. Phillips said FDNY ambulances were on the tarmac to transport the sick passengers.

Airline representatives did not immediate respond to an email requesting information.

It’s unclear what caused the incident. Phillips said the flight from Dubai stopped in Mecca, where there's a flu outbreak.

"Early indications point to that as a POSSIBILITY. More to come," Phillips said.

A New York Police Department counter-terrorism division tweeted that it was monitoring what appeared to be a "medical situation.

Subsequent to the Mayor's Press secretary's statement on Mecca (above), it was noted that the flight was direct Dubai to JFK. That possibly some passengers were at Mecca, Saudi Arabia and had contracted some form of virus that presents with flu-like symptoms..

The Nipah virus naturally resides in fruit bats across South and Southeast Asia, and can spread to humans through contact with the animals’ bodily fluids. There is no vaccine and no cure.

The virus is listed by the W.H.O. as a high priority for research. Current treatment measures are insufficient, according to Dr. Stuart Nichol, the head of the viral special pathogens branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“There’s a market failure for protecting people from this,” said Dr. Steve Luby, an epidemiologist at Stanford University. “It’s not like treating baldness or breast cancer, where wealthy people will pay for your product. There’s no big customer here, no incentive, until it escalates.”

If the virus were to spread outside India, it would likely appear first in Dubai, where many Indians work, according to an analysis of flight patterns conducted by the EcoHealth Alliance, a nonprofit research group.

Among United States airports, an infected traveler would likely arrive first at John F. Kennedy Airport.

IT IS UNKNOWN what the passengers and crew have, it must be pointed out. It is an interesting coincidence(?) that the NY Times mentions Dubai, and a plane landing at JFK with a sick passenger, with presenting viral symptoms. Is it a coincidence that Q says beware the time is now for an incident to happen?

Symptoms:

The Nipah infection produces flu-like symptoms, including fevers, body aches and vomiting, which often progress to acute respiratory syndrome and encephalitis, or brain inflammation. Some survivors show persistent neurological effects, including personality changes.

The virus was first identified during an outbreak in 1998 among pig farmers in Malaysia, where it killed over 100 people and led to the slaughtering of more than one million pigs. Cases now appear almost annually in Bangladesh.

The current outbreak likely began when people drew water from a bat-infested well, according to the India’s National Centre for Disease Control, which is leading the investigation.

Of course it is again another coincidence, correct?, nothing more, that the passengers on the stricken plane are exhibiting similar symptoms. Flu or bacterial infections can present with 'flu-like' symptoms.

Airline officials have now said, NO WORRIES, it is only 10 people who have taken ILL and the rest shortly are to be free to go..

The spokeswoman from Dubai's Emirates Airline has said 10 passengers fell ill on the flight from Dubai to New York.

New York media outlets had earlier put the number at about 100 passengers.

“Emirates can confirm that about 10 passengers on board flight EK203 from Dubai to New York were taken ill,” the spokeswoman said. “On arrival at JFK, as a precaution, they were immediately checked by local health authorities and those needing medical attention will be attended to.”

She said all other passengers would be allowed to leave the plane shortly.

Officials from the Port Authority Police Department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were on scene, according to news station WNBC, but did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The mayor’s office also did not respond to requests for comment.

Taking a look closely at the tarmac, the emergency vehicles, first responder's transports appears to be greater than 10 vehicles.

Someone obviously requested that many emergency transport vehicles. Who?

My daughter came back sick from a flight from Geneva with flu like symptoms that went on for 3 weeks. She is now fine. A cousin of mine and some other passengers got very sick last February on a flight from Montreal to Mexico. Many had to be hospitalise upon arrival in Mexico.

Something is wrong in airplanes, I suspect the spray they use for insects in airplanes - or geoengineered clouds the plane passes through.

UAE PR person for Emirates says only 10 people (apparently SICK when getting on the plane, why weren't they prohibited from travel from UAE?)

Reports say 10 people transported to Jamaica Health medical center. And by around noon East Coast time, 432 passengers had been cleared and allowed to go to the customs area.

521 minus 432 "cleared people" equals 89 people NOT clear (that's pretty close to 100 isn't it?) if we add in the 10 confirmed sick that's now 99 people "sick"... If we subtract the 10 from the 89 mysteriously unmentioned unaccountable folks on the plane there remains a number of 79 people.

79 people with what infection?

Why the doublespeak by UAE and more accurate reporting numbers from the official US infection monitoring agency, the CDC?

An off-duty Emirati Pilot threatened to blow up an Airbus A380 he was flying as a passenger and assaulted a flight attendant.

After takeoff, the 27-year-old Pilot began cursing at other passengers, insulted and assaulted a Romanian Flight Attendant, and grabbed two beers without the permission of the attending crew members.

The off-duty Pilot continued misbehaving and, following an unsuccessful attempt to calm him down, the flight attendants were forced to restrain him with plastic handcuffs.

Following the restraint, the Pilot turned more aggressive and began threatening to blow up the plane with explosives that he supposedly had on him.

He also threatened the Romanian Flight Attendant to “chase her and kill her.”

“Emirates can confirm that on June 1, 2018, an incident occurred during flight EK144 from Madrid to Dubai, whereby an unruly passenger was restrained by cabin crew.”

“The passenger (an off-duty Emirates Pilot) was met by authorities in Dubai on arrival. The safety of our passengers and crew is of critical importance and will not be compromised. The matter is now before the courts, and Emirates cannot comment further on the incident,” the statement concluded.

According to witnesses, the Pilot banged his head numerous times against the IFE screen on his seat, damaging it together with the window.

The airline is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group, which is wholly owned by the government of Dubai's Investment Corporation of Dubai.

Recall recently UK Dentist Ellie Holman jailed in Dubai - "nightmare" when she was given a complimentary glass of wine from the Airlines while flying into Dubai. Seems Emirates Air isn't having the best of luck lately with human rights, medical issues, and what appears to be manipulation of a UK passenger to facilitate her incarceration..

Perhaps the response at JFK wasn't expected. The infected passengers could have passed right through the airport and out into the general population, had they not become so symtomatic so quickly ?


If someone had to jump into the process and get most of them cleared to go, that would cause a lot of different accounts from different sources for a while.

Hi Larry - what is interesting to note, is what seems to be a media disappearance act of what is going on. Should CDC be trusted when they say 100 people infected, or UAE PR people saying only 10 affected. I'd bank on CDC's numbers..

I haven't been following Q-Anon enough either, but what struck me is the timing.. I've never been fond of UAE in general, having come back from Abu-Dhabi some years ago, with a case of MERS-nCOV (which is reportedly officially resurfacing in Dubai, UAE as recently as Jan/Feb this year) - such is flu-like, but one ends up dying from pneumonia instead of brain encephalitis...

I just don't like what appears to be a cover-up, all the misleading data appearing back and forth.. Anyone in the emergency rescue services for Port Authority might be willing to fess up to what really is going on. Emirates Air letting 10 sick people on board if that is the case is most disturbing.. In light of the DR Congo current Ebola-Zaire viral strain taking it's toll there in the NE part of that Country.. Just taking a temperature having a person fill out a CARD and sending them on their way, internationally or within the US without an adequate quarantine for at least 24 hours makes no sense to me.

some reports now say CDC MEANT 100 people complaining of symptoms but not ILL enough to require IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.. affected showing symptoms but people not wanting to be inconvenienced or observed for quarantine.. insisting that they leave to go about their business.. after all flying from DXB to JFK, the fastest flight time is 14 hours and 25 minutes. People get impatient don't they and why bother to look out for the safety of the rest of us? Makes one wonder sometimes... (sigh)

Reuters reports the total on board to be 521.. confirms 19 sick, 9 refused treatment, and that the White House was monitoring the situation, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said, and President Donald Trump was being updated as new information became available.

A government source briefed on situation said there was no evidence of a security or terror issue. Emirates‘ home office told U.S. officials it believes this incident was caused by food poisoning, but passengers also suggested a nasty flu virus could also be to blame.

“Even well before the flight when we were on line getting on board (in Dubai), there were people that were obviously very sick that should not have been allowed to get on board in the first place,” said passenger Erin Sykes.

Passengers reported that there were many more "sick" than what is being "officially reported"..

Can the CDC say one must quarantine? Well, yes and no.. If there is something not on the OFFICIAL LIST (even if it is deadly like the NIPAH virus newly emerging infectious agent), the CDC has its hand tied. They must let people GO into the environment, even if presenting with something that could be potentially deadly and something that could evoke a pandemic... (sigh).

CDC’s authority to order isolation or quarantine is limited to people who the CDC reasonably believes to be infected with a quarantinable communicable disease as defined by Executive Order of the President. That would be Mr. Trump in this case...

The final rule does not change the list of quarantinable communicable diseases; the list may only be changed by Executive Order of the President. The current list of these diseases is available here.

This list currently includes cholera, diphtheria, infectious tuberculosis, plague, smallpox, yellow fever, viral hemorrhagic fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Ebola, Crimean-Congo, South American, and others not yet isolated or named), severe acute respiratory syndromes (e.g., SARS, MERS), and influenza caused by novel or reemergent influenza viruses that are causing, or have the potential to cause, a pandemic.

If an individual does not have, or is not suspected of having, one of these illnesses, CDC cannot hold the individual for quarantine or isolation.

Some news reports are saying 19 people were definitely ill, and now it is said 11, not 10 were transported to a hospital, with the original 9 abstaining refusing care saying they will not allow themselves to be transported, thankyou very much (paraphrased). 11 transported plus 9 saying 'no thanks', isn't that 20 people? instead of 19? definitely affected with something?
