Very interesting talk!! Musk talks about Neuro lace, and how it will be available to the masses increasing access to information exponentially . He repeatedly states it will be available for anyone that wants it. What he has not addressed is the tendency for some of mankind to quickly exploit others and this biotechnology is just begging to be exploited. It may be available to the masses but how many will be able to afford it? I can fly in a spacecraft too, if I have the money. I see a world of the Neuro laced ruling and exploiting those that aren't hooked up. It's not just the technology that scares me, but the biggest fear is how it will be exploited as a control mechanism. Musk and Rogan didn't address potential exploitation of this technology although they lightly covered misues of AI in general.

Once these connections are made to modify the brain, they can change them for all sorts of reasons, like torture and punishment.

What I think Musk is doing is trying to do is encourage us humans to have an increasingly reverential, salvationist and submissive attitude toward technology.

Fear-mongering if you like, that all of our livelihoods are some day all going to be replaced. The thing is, computers, automation and robots do not obsolete anything that didn't need obsoleting, and never have done. In fact, which each new technology, there are spawned countless new job titles - robotics software developers, testers, technicians, CAD specialists, sales engineers, operators - and each of these has their own specialisations in the fields of healthcare, manufacturing, etc.

Just to de-mystify things a little. By artificial intelligence I presume he means neural networks, which are built using a concept called multi-layered perceptrons to represent networks of neurons.

These things use a reinforcement/Hebbian learning technique called "back propagation", whereby the numerical values of the interconnecting links of the neural network (“weights”) which represent a brain-like neural layers, are adjusted and readjusted, layer by layer, over many iterations of the algorithm (the so-called "training" phase), until the network is to recognise input patterns presented to it (eg pixels representing a face, or a car number plate image etc) with the fewest possible errors. This idea has been around since at least the 1950s, if I'm not mistaken.

And that's basically it. After the initial training phase the thing has essentially stopped learning, which hardly makes it "intelligent" at all in my book.

Musk's vile and baseless comments directed at courageous British diver Vernon Unsworth should tell you everything you need to know about him.

    Creepy and chilling.
There doesn't seem to be much human feeling in this man, or sense of free will.
He seems to be nihilistic, and for someone like that to have so much power and influence is truly disturbing.
It seems like AI enslaved his mind and sent him here to help put it in power, and he is saying essentially, "Resistance is futile, puny humans"...
And he seems to be amused by it.

I am pretty sure that your analysis is wrong. He says that he has tried again and again to slow down the AI development and have control policies implemented with zer person listening.

So as a pragmatic, what is next? Trying to make AI as benevolent as possible for thegood of humanity. The danger being its use for killing as well as its completd independence.

To me, this was very clear.

And to me this the foresight of someone much more developed than most. , hence his disappointment at us who do not see the dangers

There are already self developing AI in MIT labs with therefore perpetual learning if plugged to a network from what I read (but do not remember where, I am just human lol)

I think you are referring to a research area known as "unsupervised learning", which in my opinion mimics aspects of "intelligence" without it actually being intelligent in the way I understand the term.

IMO I think Musk's constant trumpeting of "AI" is a ploy to fool naive competitors into investing the wrong way.

Huge blowback in the financial markets from this interview, as well as a front page Wall Street Journal story. I find it revealing that there was no reaction or response to the substance or what he was saying, only a horrified response to the fact he took a puff of a marijuana-laced cigar (and from what I saw, he did not inhale..)

The Pentagon spends $2 Billion to inject more Artificial Intelligence into its Weaponry!

DARPA currently has about 25 programs focused on AI research, according to the agency, but plans to funnel some of the new money through its new Artificial Intelligence Exploration Program. That program, announced in July, will give grants up to $1 million each for research into how AI systems can be taught to understand context, allowing them to more effectively operate in complex environments.
Walker said that enabling AI systems to make decisions even when distractions are all around, and to then explain those decisions to their operators will be “critically important…in a warfighting scenario.”

Watched 9 minutes, and got tired of Joe Rogan trying to set him up as a modern genius, especially in the first 2 minutes. I think Musk's job is to try and covertly sell AI to the masses. There's a lot of double talk in his pitch. So, he'll protect people from AI by injecting them with a neural net???

    http://nautil.us/blog/-will-this-neu...ompete-with-ai

    https://bigthink.com/matt-davis/why-...il-dictator-ai

So he's warning people about A.I., but he's the first person to suggest mass, public, implants?

Quote The neural interface Musk was referring to is being developed by Neuralink, another one of his startups. Neuralink’s purpose is to develop a brain-machine interface (BMI) between the human mind and a generalized A.I.—essentially, an A.I. capable of thinking in general rather than thinking about how best to win a DotA match. By developing this interface between the brain and an A.I., Neuralink hopes to both augment human capabilities and prevent one of Musk’s often invoked concerns about the future: an immortal, evil, dictatorial A.I.
Quote His second method of democratizing A.I. is through Neuralink. By connecting the human mind with cloud-based A.I., the theory is that we’ll have the capabilities necessary to contend with any centralized, malevolent A.I.s out there.
On the other hand, his insights on limbic resonance are fascinating.

I think the collective is no longer fooled by Musk, and we're seeing that reflected in the media and stock prices.

Agreed Daozen. He clearly sees himself as a modern-day Edison. He is not. I would give that accolade to someone like BYD supremo Wang Chuanfu over Musk any day, in that he goes and teaches himself whole new technologies to do what he needs to accomplish.

Musk says he’s afraid that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will take over humanity, or some such thing (any cursory search will turn up oodles of articles of him boring on about that).

In response, he champions a brain-like computer interface venture called Neuralink which is centred on creating devices that can be implanted in the human brain, with the intention of helping humans to interface with software and thereby keep pace with advancements in AI.

In other words, to save mankind from being exterminated by Schwarzenegger-style AI-self-aware Terminators, Musk vows to save humanity by destroying it — by transforming humanity into the Borg. It’s a sad indictment of how intellectually bankrupt we have become when billionaire visionaries have to re-hash tired old sci-fi movie plots in their quest to develop The Next Big Thing and improve profit margins in the process.

Even Karl Marx on bad acid could not have dreamed that up.

It seems like AI enslaved his mind and sent him here to help put it in power, and he is saying essentially, "Resistance is futile, puny humans"...
And he seems to be amused by it.
    Each breath a gift...

I somewhat agree with the cold feeling Elon Musk gives, while I disagree with the potential intent you give him.

Recently, I was in near contact with someone deem average in all points of view, and I was literally floored by his comments, his views and mostly his incapacity to analyse anything easily and with mental stability. However, he is deemed normal.

I also have been in contact with a group of people who are deem average as well (blue collars and administrative assistant like). Although they have more heart and are fun to be with, having great sense of humour, when it comes to straight critical analysis, wow, I am floored there too, this aspect is weak.

Let me tell you, if this is all normalcy, we are in deep sh t. They would not be able to solve much of our problems, on the contrary, they would add to it because of unprocessed, uncontrolled emotionnality, not balanced with heart and head.

Up to a point, I understood that I am the one who is not standard amongst themselves. The first man would clearly reject and argue anything science based or in my views "intelligent deductions" while the group took a while to accept my way of thinking (I am very low key and humble with them, but I cannot stop being me).

I think that Elon Musk is so much farther advance not only in his views, but in his thinking and of course in what he knows of our "space fleets", our hidden science, etc. that he has to take a distance stance, knowing that most of us cannot assimilate what he knows.

That make someone more or less become silent and more or less look cold. One of the reason being that whatever you could express truly and in depth cannot be assimilated.

It also leads you to a kind of discouragement towards the hope for better humanity and forecasting of what will happen to humanity is getting depressing.

In clear, normalcy means not being able to refute and refuse whatever the "bad ones" push on us, not being able to organise ourselves and mostly to think (brain and heart thinking/feeling) by ourselves

I personnaly came to a point where I started to understand the higher top cabal, who sees us as useless eaters (i do not agree, but I understand the feeling). The difference between them and us being the heart involvement - they have no heart.

But they are bright and they know we aren't.

I started to think that in fact, we, as average humanity, are not smart enough nor heartfilled enough to move the planet in the right direction.

We do need a big energy (light) bolt of heart opening and brain stimulation to reach the non destructive paths.

Loving normal ones and trying to explain the basics is truly a mission in itself. And.... I am just a tiny bit more educated and maybe a tiny bit more able to understand.

Imagine someone like Musk, or Wang Chuanfu, or our own Carmody here, how far ahead they are. It must be depressing to look at us from their point of view.

I think Musk is now wanting to do the least damaging hoping it will transform us enough to go in the right direction, since we did not understand nor felt what the non damaging healthy solutions were, since we accept the bad.

therefore transhumanism up to a point, this being a double edge sword, as Musk himself recognises.

I think Dark Journalist's "The Eighth Sphere" fits in here well as he explains the Arhimanic Forces that have always been contrary to the "heart" way of doing things!

Things DO seem to be coming to a head, don't they?!

I just wish to state I have an overwhelming bias from the outset in being British and having some background in diving. Musks comments about Unsworth were unendurable to me. So it was not just about the Ai side of things. My apologies to Exo if I come across as opinionated and hijacking this thread somewhat.
