....China has a growing water shortage yet has the fastest growing bottled water market in the world. In some countries, individuals are not even allowed to collect rain water on their own land, yet Apparently, cocacola and nestle are attempting to acquire ownership of the Guarani Aquifer the 2nd largest aquifer water system which is under Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

Water getting sold up to 60 x more per acre/foot to oil companies requiring vast amounts of water for their fracking compared to the price sold to farmers. Makes you think water is the new gold/oil/bitcoin.

I seem to recall the Bush family buying 000s of acres of land in uruguay a few years back. Was it because the land was above the 450,000+ square miles (8000+ cubic miles) of water which the rights to are now being sold?

Imagine owning 3 x the size of California's worth of fresh water when the majority of the planet is salt water.

As governments penalise and limit individual's access to water, private organisations and financial institutions are buying up the rights to water worldwide at an alarming pace.

Eee me, where's it all going to end?

Billionaire Boone Pickens Wants To Sell You His Water


The Ogallala has provided sustenance since the arrival of agrarian society in the late nineteenth century. The introduction of the right-angle pump in the fifties turned the plains green and productive. But by the seventies, portions of the aquifer began to run low. Extraction of water from the Ogallala has been so profound that parts of the vast reservoir beneath Texas have lost more than 50 percent of their capacity over the past half-century—enough that farming in some areas is no longer economically viable. Once the “good” Ogallala water is gone (the bottom water is brackish), it’s dryland farming or nothing. Boone Pickens is just following local tradition.

But first he needs to find a buyer for his water. Right now, none of the three pipeline destinations sketched into Mesa Water, Incorporated’s PowerPoint presentation are in dire need. The Metroplex has abundant surface-water supplies; San Antonio just wrapped up long-term deals with the Lower Colorado River Authority, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, and Alcoa to buy water; and the $1,775-per-acre-foot estimated tab to deliver Roberts County water to El Paso makes desalinating brackish freshwater from the bottom of the local aquifer cost-effective.

Still, since it’s Pickens who’s talking, you can’t help but believe that somehow, some way, he’s going to make some money out of this, even if he’s already invested a couple million. In the meantime he makes a first-class poster boy. Back at Love Field after a day at the ranch, Pickens graciously offers to sign a copy of his book Boone In front of his signature, he writes, “Call me if you know someone who wants to buy some water.”

One of the great technical advancements of this century would be the invention of cheap desalination of water. There is plenty of water in the ocean, just needs desalination.

A potential cheap desalination technique is thought to be using nanotechnology: have a nano particle, that is coated with a magnetic substance, that latches onto the salt particles, and then an electromagnet is used to extract the salt. Presto, desalinated water.

A similar technique could be used for water cleansing.

I have heard it said that cleansed water has valuable healing properties. An added bonus.

Creating water shortage and selling bottled water at sky-high prices are the works of vested interests and politics.
