You can fix a hernia with a high silica diet (cucumbers, horsetail etc) and special massages that push the hernia back in. I have heard of people who have had permanent complications from mesh surgery. My father had surgery. It worked but there are side effects.

I had a hernia in Hong Kong in 2010. I fixed it with massaging... Lots of documentation online. It might be worth going the natural route and postponing surgery...

Lots of info about hiatal hernias on youtube. This is for inguinal:

I had this procedure done about 5 years ago. It went fine, no complications.

It was hiatal... but the links I dropped were for inguinal. Lots of info on fixing both hiatal and inguinal hernias on youtube, but the exercises are different as they're in different parts of the stomach as you know.

I'm a firm believer in no doctors or hospitals but a large inguinal hernia (egg sized and above) is very, very difficult to fix yourself because the 'wound' is constantly being forced open by the pressure of your intestines. There is a specialist clinic in London that has a 100% success rate much, obviously much higher than an ordinary hospital: https://www.hernia.org/types/inguinal/

There have been huge problems with the mesh. Intestinal blockage, chronic pain and a slew of other symptoms. I would really do my research before I has this procedure done. I don't know if there are different kinds of mesh or different types of attachment of the mesh that have better outcomes, but I would definitely do my research. There are a lot of lawsuits from people that have had various problems with the mesh.

I would question anyone that says they have a 100% success rate. Is that success with the procedure, is it success if everything is ok after 30days, 60 days, a year???? Remember, you would be wanting the mesh to work for the rest of your life, how about long term statistics? I would ask them to define what a success rate is? How many procedures of this type have they done? If you have done only one and it is successful than you have a 100% success rate. Stats can be tricky and they are manipulated all the time.

Always do your own research, or have someone you trust help you with it. You can not blindly trust any medical "professional". Not because they are all dishonest, but because it is your life and health on the line. I can't emphasize that enough.

I when thru the surgery, my doctor told me before the operation, that it's not to be taken lightly, there could be life long effects. The operation went well, but it took a year before i was pain free.

There has been a lot of discussion about the use of surgical mesh here in Canada—investigative reports, lawsuits etc. You might want to do an online search on the subject so you’re able to make an informed decision or at least ask your doctor about it. This isn’t a comprehensive list, but rather a few random links to get you started:

ps ... sorry mods if this is in the wrong forum .

Just requesting information on a forum that is not primarily a health related forum has garnered so much great information, from a holistic approach to the the personal testimonials, to being cautious and what to look out for. I am impressed and I'm not even the one seeking information.
I think the other thing to consider is the degree of the problem. If you are in constant excruciating pain you have to balance the pros and the cons. Maybe, the mesh is not a perfect solution but what is the alternative?

I also think that if you let your Dr. know that you are well informed about the procedure and if you ask appropriate questions, they are more likely to carefully evaluate and plan your case. The squeaky wheel definitely gets the grease, so to speak, in situations like this. Being a nurse, I know I want to be extra prepared for those that are aware and notice exactly what I am doing and ask questions. It's not that I don't care about the others, but it's human nature to want to be very efficient if you know you are being scrutinized and may have to explain each of your actions and decisions.

Don’t put anything inside of you that doesn’t belong there... my 2 cents... had a hernia op when I was 10 years old, 30 yrs later, total regrets - after finding out that it could go away naturally. That doctor just used me as surgery practice. Pure evil.

Glad you cancelled the operation DeeMeetrios. I have been taking castor oil internally recently. A teaspoon or two before bed. Rarely got any laxative effects.

High silica foods can also help, like I said before.

If you are at all overweight (forgive me)... fasting would be the very first thing to do.

I had this exact surgery about 6 weeks ago.

Scared the hell out of me and I nearly walked out of the hospital before they took me into the theatre for the op.

Lots of pain and discomfort for the first week after but it's been healing up well since. There's still a lump there but it's hard one and slowly shrinking, I think.

I have a patch of skin that feels like the nerves were cut. Almost a dead area, but I think even that will gradually return to full feeling.

If non surgical fixes work, great. I didn't think about alternatives. I don't regret the surgery yet, but who knows.
