At the risk of breaking all the rules of etiquette and unspoken no-nos… thank you, Simon Parkes for your generosity to Sierra and Geoff Reed.

I would help too. Tell Dedushkyn to send me the canadian $, I will have it sent in US funds to you Paul, or deposit it directly to Sierra gofundme account, with Dedushkyn name (oncee the exchange rate is calculated)

Last week I did give to Sierra by the way, and also to Avalon

Hi Flash, Ernie and Mike the easiest solution was to send all three of you a PM.
    Thanks for your help.

Runningdeer, If you are in touch with Sierra, please tell them that I live 15 miles away and if they have any friends or family that need some pet care while they get back on their feet, please, reach out. I am in Nevada City, and many people want to help in some way, many taking loads down to help... Clothes, supplies, toiletries, etc.. We are hearing that they are not letting pets into the shelters. And if you have too many and don't want to shelter them apart from their families, (and I completely understand!) , that those people are sleeping in their vehicles in the night to say with their pets. There are people offering locally, to house these pets for you until you get back on your feet.. My name on facebook is Denise Stevenson Dyer, and I am seeing these posts, and can help you hook up with some of those people. I being one of them. I have 2 Shih Tzus, but they're very friendly, so if there are birds, dogs, or other animals needing a home temporarily, or permenantly, let us know up here, we want to help..

Denise. I’ve bumped your post and skimmed through others about lodging. It looks like Sierra, Dave and Pippin are set.

    Sierra:
Our sweet sweet realtor called us, picked us up, and took us to her parents house. We have a private room, bath, and we’re with the kindest people.

Kristin has been talking with an off the grid community in New Mexico, very close to Silver City where my BFF lives! We could actually afford to live there on my social security, a refuge until David’s social security kicks in.

    Bill:
They’re staying with kind friends, and have a bed, food, and transport. They already have money (cash in hand) from insurance, a rental car, and will have a hotel room Sunday or Monday.

I said, “I don’t know why I’m crying.” Dave burst out laughing, put both hands on my leg, and said, “Let me show you.” He pulls out a kleenex, holds it up, and simultaneously madly shakes the handkerchief and wildly flaps his other hand at the kleenex, and says, “This is your life right now! I laughed my head off.

The animal rescue people left some food for Martha, but could not find her. They said there were lots of loose animals wandering around. I’ve seen pictures of the burned wildlife. I can’t bear that part.

Keith. Keith and Rhonda moved in to the downstairs apartment. In exchange for lowered rent, they helped us get the house ready to sell. He laid a new kitchen floor, fixed electrical issues, was putting a new clutch in David’s truck, painted the kitchen, etc. The man is a genius. Rhonda helped us clean and repair. She does home care for the elderly or people dying of cancer. So we utterly lucked out in the angels department, lol.

So we have these next door neighbors whose house burned down a few years ago (the husband was smoking in bed apparently). An Italian grandma, who barely speaks English, the mother with a heavy accent, and a daughter. They have three baying hounds (one of which got out and nearly attacked Dave), a bulldog, a little white dog, and a black retriever. In seven years, none of the dogs have ever been exercised or walked except the bulldog (three times). So you can imagine what a scene it would be to corral these utterly insane, and untrained dogs.

Keith went to every house on our loop to make sure everyone was out. Yes, he is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He doesn’t think about it or consider the cost, he just instantly responds to a need. A lovely gentle and kind couple to live with. I will miss that part so much.

Here is a map of the loop of houses Keith checked. (The map shows our neighborhood has not yet been been checked for burn status. Red means assessors say destroyed. Black means a particular house is safe.):

Everyone was out except the next door family. They were NOT going to leave. They were going to “save their house”. Keith said he was reduced to swearing and cursing to get them to move. He got all the dogs into his truck, but the family kept running back into to rescue pictures, and vases.

Keith emptied his truck to make room, and lost all his equipment for work.

There were heroes lining Skyway, keeping traffic fair and just. Not just the firemen and policemen, but people in neon vests, waving flashlights, performing traffic control at intersections. Wearing flimsy face masks, in darkness, surrounded by fire, and freaked people on the edge of losing their grip on rules of the road.

(This is what our Jean-Marie does. Not only is she heavily involved in local politics, boy scout camp, church fund raisers, she is part of the emergency response team (award winning!) in a suburb of Chicago. Jean-Marie helps set up the traffic blocks, and guide traffic, as when Hilary made a campaign stop in her home town.)

Smoker’s Paradise, and Starbucks survived. People will be able to get their coffee and cigs! Very inportant! (And Holiday Market, the source of organic food in Paradise.)

A shoutout to Grocery Outlet, (the other source for some organic and good food heavily discounted in price). They cut final checks for everyone, bought cash for those without bank accounts, and Corporate gave everyone a “substantial bonus”.

I bought a few clothes on eBay. (Thank you, thank you, thank you dear hearts! Money is running low, and I dipped into the Sierra fund).

More kindness of strangers. We have arranged for housing in New Mexico for when we’re done looking for Martha, and have finished all the insurance. We were ORDERED by moderator Kristin lol, to relax, and go out to dinner. Two guys sat at the table next to us and one asked David what was he drinking, a very rich Thai tea with cream so he tried it, and we talked together.

It was funny. I was too exhausted to strain to hear everything or go “what what”, so I did what I often do, just watch the meta communication. He would look at me a lot, and my face would just curl up, he was so nice, and then HIS face would relax and curl, lol. Two conversations at once. They left, and we asked for the bill. The woman came running over with a big grin, and said, “The two boys paid for your meal.”

Goodwill GAVE us 100.00 for clothes! I now have THREE pairs of jeans, and a pair of jean shorts! A sun hat! Sunglasses!

Joe from the Carolinas bought me the exact same pair of Asolo hiking boots I used to have. I put them on last night, and I felt SO STABLE! I’m grounded again. It was getting scary, constantly teetering, almost falling. Joe, thank you.

An eBay seller rescinded payment on a blouse I bought, and is sending me more. Her sister in Atlanta is also sending me clothes.

We went walking in Caldwell Park, by the Sacramento River, and met a couple who survived the Carr Fire, the biggest in California history, some 400,000 acres. They gave us such good information. One of the tips is a place called Samaritan’s Purse. They will come to your burned residence and sift through your ashes, and apparently they do find stuff. I’m amazed.

I am utterly buffaloed right now. I need to come up with a thank you message for everyone who donated to the go fund me page. I weep instead. Jean is trying to help me but I’m stuck. Need to calm down, sigh.

Did I tell you? We’re in Redding now. I have asthma, and the air quality was so bad in Chico. Our hotel is pet friendly so we are FILLED with people from Paradise. I keep falling in love with our salt of the earth, lol.

Next thing we want to do is find a clunker so we can return the rental car. Keith will cone up to check out engines etc. If y’all would pray we find a reliable car...

As soon as they let people back into Paradise, we’re going to hunt for Martha.

Guys, thank you. I cannot thank you enough. I desperately want to pay it forward, but we can only do little bits here and there. David is on Facebook setting up donations, directing clothes to people in need from sources we have in Washington, etc.

It’s still so extreme, emotionally, a roller coaster of peak highs and crash and burn.

You know all the stuff we take for arthritis, the efforts to do daily walks etc? Well, they WORK. Try extreme stress, no pills, no superfoods, no yoghurt, no walks, locked up in a tin can doing things you must get done, and find out how bad your arthritis really is!!!!

Okay, thank you for letting me do brain dumps.

Odd random thought: Valerie! Of course I know who you are! I love reading what you have to say, lol.

YOU guys are getting us through this. I feel your prayers. I feel your love.

All my love, Sierra the severely banana crackers moderator...

AURORA TAKES THE SHAPE OF A PHOENIX: "Last night's amazing aurora show over Senja, Norway, was nothing short of magical," reports photographer Adrien Mauduit on Nov. 11th. "During one outburst of lights, this image appeared. Huge colorful pillars took the shape of a fiery bird."

Guys, thank you. I cannot thank you enough. I desperately want to pay it forward, but we can only do little bits here and there. David is on Facebook setting up donations, directing clothes to people in need from sources we have in Washington, etc.

    ... I feel your love.

    "Turn! Turn! Turn!"

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
    A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late!

    Sierra,

Bless your huge heart and glowing soul that you also want this to be a time for you to reach out and help others, but right now, it's (mostly) time to be on the receiving part of the cycle. For people accustomed to giving, it is somewhat awkward and unfamiliar to be on the receiving end, but remember - that allows other people (all of us cosmic brothers and sisters) to be on the giving end. Let us know how we can help.

    Love,

    Dennis

That's a beautiful picture of your cat Martha. I love black cats (I have 3 tuxedo cats myself). I'm holding out hope that Martha is still alive and you will eventually be reunited.

If anyone hasn't donated yet, please help Sierra, her husband, and current 1 of 2 cats:

    Me too. Thank you, Simon.

Wild. Seeing people lose everything but be so thankful to be alive. Seeing them survive and helping each other out, along with an army of people helping in a multitude of ways (and getting to be a small part of that).

I always believe there are a lot of beautiful people in the world, but I seem to never be able to see it. Now I do, this whole event is humbling.

Hi, Folks: I have an update from Sierra, who asked me to post this very short (10 second) video.
    Sierra says:
Dave’s cousin Shannon is staying with a Northern California Animal Rescue organization (a relative). She was able to get into Paradise with Animal rescue. Apparently you can hear Shannon calling Martha.

In the beginning of the video, the house next door is still standing. Since this is the house that was rebuilt two years ago, I wonder if it is the new fire codes that saved the house or sheer luck.

Well, David’s orange truck is now white!
