Default What sparks joy in you?

I've been going through something myself, although it is probably such a mild thing in comparison to the trials and tribulations of what many of the folk on Avalon (and guests) are currently suffering through.

I found myself in the shower, water always makes me feel better (does anyone else do that?) and the water was very soothing, when I recalled a little video series by Marie Kondo called Tidying Up.

The videos on face-value are about helping families to declutter their homes.

However, as the families journey through the art of decluttering with the help of Marie, you also witness the family members experiencing profound realisations and transformations in their relationships with each other, and themselves.

The Japanese have a very beautiful way of looking at things. Marie encouraged each family member to consider each item they owned, to touch each item and to feel if it "sparked joy". If it didn't spark joy, they could thank the item for being with them, and then either give it away or dispose of it.

And then I realised that this simple exercise could also be applied to my life.

At first, it was hard. It is always more difficult when you are struggling with something.

I asked myself the question over and over again. "What sparks joy in me?"

"What really sparks joy in me?"

What eventually came to me was...
    • Swimming in the ocean
    • Being hugged and held by someone who loves me (and someone I love)
    • Seeing a tiny wildflower in a harsh bushland environment
    • Watching a sunset
    • Holding a newborn in my arms, or any other new life form for that matter
    • The scent of a rose
    • Listening to music that transports me to another time and place
    • Hearing unexpectantly from someone I love
    • Eating fruit that I have just picked (berries!)
    • When a friend is highly inspired (by something or someone) and I just happen to be there in that very moment
    • New friendships and loves; the delight in finding out that we are kindred spirits
    • Waterfalls
    • Watching wildlife, interacting with wildlife
I am sure it will be different for everyone but what is it for you?

    What sparks joy in you?

Oh Constance, thanks for your post!

My last moment of pure joy happened on a crystal clear warm summer day. I was reclining in a car in a parking lot when someone came out of a party rental store with about 50 Mylar balloons they tried to stuff into their hatchback.

She managed to squeeze all but 10 balloons into the car. Watching those escapee balloons climb higher and higher and become smaller and smaller was one of the happiest moments of my life. Must be symbolic.

    Nice thread Constance.

What sparks joy in me is when I know I have nothing pending for a few days, no commitments, and I feel total freedom to do whatever I want or nothing at all.

    Welcome back, Constance.

    No schedule.
    Move in flow.
Then jump out of bed and do it all over again.

It’s taken all these years to figure out there’s absolutely no rush.

Constance, I am with you in everything that brings you joy. Plus seeing my children all grown up and being good and loving human beings. Puppies or any animals brings me joy. Magnolia flowers take me back to a life long gone and bring me so much joy from a time of sorrow. My list is long......

Completing another Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush! (the Andreas Moritz way)

I found that a congested liver can take the joy out of life. I just completed my fourth flush and my health and "joy factor" go up a notch each time I do a flush. However, the sixth and seventh day of the flush can be a bit hellish.

Me too! I think it's very sad that we are conditioned to believe it's bad to be wrong. So much better to be taught that it is a good thing. Discovering you are wrong about something is much more life changing than being right...

What a good idea to declutter my home, touching everything and getting rid of things not giving me joy.

    What gives me joy:

    My daughter
    Seeing someone laugh
Seeing a baby, or holding one
    Having a deep conversation
    The sea
    Swimming
    A warm sunny day
Feeling love (for or from someone, for or from nature, for or from myself)
My house (it will be difficult to sell. Which I must do)
    Creating something new

Default Re: What sparks joy in you?

For many people who appear to lack joy in their life, I suspect need to answer 3 important key questions.

For me, In this carnation we have chosen to experience the dramas, the challenges and obstacles of life in this 3 dimensional plane when we chose to manifest ourselves into being at this point in "time". Many people simply react in autopilot to what life throws at them, instead of recognising that they are consciousness in manifest wanting to experience "joy" and "happiness" and share that joy with others to help expand consciousness as a collective from our each and individual strengths as we apply the learning on earthly journey.

Quite often when we lack "joy" or happiness it can often be that our focus has been on "pleasure" instead of happiness. Pleasure for me are the things that are selfish, self centred, are temporary and short lived - the things we want or what we can "get" - giving us a temporary high (like cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, eating the wrong foods and oneupmanship on other people), and are followed by periods of being low.

Happiness or "joy" is the opposite for me, so instead of being selfish and seeing what we can get. To spark joy and happiness and maintain an eternal state of bliss its all about being selfless not selfish and focus our attention on others. The more we give and share - the more happiness and joy we create.

This is true for many of us on the forum I suspect, how many of us love it when we read something or watch something that helps us grow our wisdom bank and as for the contributor - they probably feel awesome for sharing. (if their intent was honourable.)

So to maintain joy, focus on being selfless, and start sharing your own knowledge, wisdom and experience with others for you probably have an infinite supply that you just dont realise at the moment for your too busy reacting to what life throws at you.

So taking Marie's premise, one step furtjer - Answer these 3 quick questions for yourself...

    1. What are you GOOD at?
    2. What do you ENJOY doing?
    3. If you had no chance of failure, what you do?

Think about it - seriously. When we focus on what we do want and not what we dont want allowing ourselves not to get distracted by all the negative naysayers, press, media, politics etc etc - and allow ourselves to focus our attention and desires on packaging our unique wisdom and experiences with a view to sharing it with others to help them grow - boy it can really lift the spirit up. For as human beings, desire is the engine of change, so before you can set your goals of the future - I agree focus on what gives you joy and what you ENjoy doing and share it with others.

Me? What sparks joy in me? Reading, relating, assimilating, applying (and sharing) the wisdom in this forum.

It warms the cockles of my heart - And you guys are awesome.

Seeing Mara, my dog, sprinting round and round and round in wide circles and figure-of-eights in a field or in the mountains, because she just has SO much energy.

Her exuberant sheer joy, just like a child, is palpable. It makes me want to do exactly the same thing, except that I only have two legs and can't move nearly as fast.

From the little that I know Bill I knew Mara was his Joy. May you continue to have many more adventures together.

A quiet joy has been my constant companion throughout life. An inner joy that never wanes. Every once in a while my brain says how amazing you lucky buckaroo.

Oh totally! I was just "playing" with my 15 year old dog who will still do little jumps up and down and wide smile for about 30 seconds if there's a biscuit available.

Another thing that gives me pure joy is watching YouTube videos of babies convulsed with laughter. Too sweet.
