    All hardware since the mid 90's have built in backdoors.
    Windows is essentially spyware......

    So a VPN may protect you somewhat from "obvious" hacks and tracing....it will do nothing to protect you from any "alphabet soup" agency.
    Purportedly Linux on an older machine may preserve some semblance of privacy.....I doubt it though.

    Here is a bit of paranoia.........

    BTW I used Bill’s TOR link https://torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

    But I discovered that I couldn’t get on this forum using TOR???

    Suggestions?
