Default Recover deleted files quickly and easily with Recuva

Is something gone that you want to get back? Try Recuva, it's very easy to use.

Not only can you Recuva your own files, you can Recuva pretty much anything as long as you act quickly before it gets overwritten by new data.

That's really cool! Sounds like a must-have, much like the "Lazarus" browser plugin that lets you recover the content of what you typed into a form on a website (for example a forum post) in case the page crashes or you make a wrong click somewhere.

Lazarus sounds handy for if you had a power outage, or just don't want to be saving stuff all the time.
Norton used to have a utility called "bomb shelter" which gave an option to recover a crashing application, but it got discontinued and I've never found another good crash recovery utility since

I've used it, but never had any success with actually recovering any of the files I wanted to recover (they couldn't have been all already overwritten). I had the shadow copy service on my PC turned off though, I chalked it up to Recuva's main place to look for deleted stuff was shadow copy data.

Piriform does make quality products though; CCleaner (previously CrapCleaner) is a wonderful tool, and the built in registry cleaners seems to work flawlessly.
When you are one step ahead of the crowd, you are a genius.
Two steps ahead, and you are deemed a crackpot.

CCleaner is excellent, its registry cleaner is a necessity for me. The first time I let it declutter my registry it blew my mind 😀

With Recuva, if you look closely in the scan results you can often see exactly which new file overwrote it. There's also a deep scan option if you can't find the file name using a quick scan.

I've used this recently as well, and I noticed something was overwritten by pagefile.sys which is a part of windows, so yeah, there's a bit of luck involved too 😀
