Default Victory for Equality: US Judge strikes down all-male restriction on military draft

Massive victory here for those who once promoted the Equal Rights Amendment. Ironically, even though it was feminists who once promoted the ERA, it was a men's rights group who secured this ruling, overturning Rostker vs. Goldberg.

Quote With women in combat roles, a federal court rules the male-only draft unconstitutional

A federal judge in Texas has declared that the all-male military draft is unconstitutional, ruling that "the time has passed" for a debate on whether women belong in the military.

The decision deals the biggest legal blow to the Selective Service System since the Supreme Court upheld the draft in 1981. In Rostker v. Goldberg, the court ruled that the male-only draft was "fully justified" because women were ineligible for combat roles.

But U.S. District Judge Gray Miller ruled late Friday that while historical restrictions on women serving in combat "may have justified past discrimination," men and women are now equally able to fight. In 2015, the Pentagon lifted all restrictions for women in military service.

The case was brought by the National Coalition For Men, a men's rights group, and two men who argued the all-male draft was unfair.

Men can rest a little bit easier the next time the draft is introduced, since they'll only be drafted half as often now. The ones who actually make it to the battlefield may not be very encouraged by the development, though, at least from the stories I've read about how women perform in intense firefights. But that's beside the point. The point is, we must treat everyone equally in all ways regardless of physiology or anything like that. This is what progress looks like.

Wow what a crazy backward reality we live in where this is something celebrated as a win or victory of any sorts. Yes it is more equal...but is it really a win for anyone but government. The only thing I would see as a win would be if no one could be forced to participate in war.

backward progress... I am for the abolishment of military. The only armed group there should be is the people. Everyone must look for after everybodys safety against the small percentage of psychopaths. not country against country or group against group. I dont know how some people can ever consider this a forward progress and massive at that.

Hows about a win for common sense?
Anyone who things females are not equal to men--never had a mother.
Celebrate the difference---each has strengths and "weaknesses" one compliments the other.
Together we make it---divided we fall.
