A billionaire diamond trader died after ‘suffering a heart attack’ during a penis enlargement operation at a private Paris clinic. Ehud Arye Laniado, 65, had visited an unidentified health centre on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees in the French capital on Saturday. But complications during the procedure proved fatal, with Belgian media reporting that the gem expert’s heart attack occurred when a substance was injected into his penis.
Mr Laniado’s company, Antwerp-based Omega Diamonds, bid ‘farewell to a visionary businessman’. One of his friends, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was ‘always focused on his appearance and how others perceived him’. They added that Mr Laniado was known as ‘The Argentinian’ because he ‘looked like a tango dancer’. The billionaire is said to be the owner of the most expensive penthouse in Monaco worth in excess of £30million, as well as a house in the plush LA suburb of Bel Air, Mail Online reports.
A statement on Mr Laniado’s website said: ‘It is with great sadness that we confirm the news that our founder, Ehud Arye Laniado passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019. He was 65 years old. ‘After living an exceptional life Ehud will be brought back home to Israel as his final resting place. He will be dearly missed by us all.’ The tycoon, who started his career in Africa in his early 20s, does not seem to have gone to university and first worked as a masseur at the Hilton hotel in Tel Aviv. A friend said: ‘In Antwerp, it turned out that he did have some talents. Internationally, he was one of the biggest experts in valuing raw diamonds.’
Mr Laniado sold the world’s most expensive diamond, called the Blue Moon of Josephine, to crooked Hong Kong businessman Joseph Lau Luen Hung for £36.8million in 2015. The Belgian-Israeli billionaire, whose exact fortune is a mystery, and his business partner Sylvain Goldberg swerved a tax evasion trial by stumping up £137.7million. Despite two courts throwing out the Belgium custom office’s claim, an appeals court ordered a new trial. Mr Laniado had been due to appear in court next week, March 14.

You can only spend so much time trading diamonds, before you grow weary of the activity and then decide to acquire other large jewels.
