Default Fatal shootings at Christchurch Mosques in New Zealand

BREAKING NEWS - Fatal shootings at Christchurch mosques
    16:26, Mar 15 2019

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/111...tchurch-mosque

One person has been arrested, but police believe there may be other offenders involved in the fatal shootings of at least nine people at two mosques in Christchurch.

Sources say nine people have been confirmed dead following the shootings at the Masjid Al Noor on Deans Ave and the Linwood Masjid on Linwood Ave.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said police were responding to "a very serious and tragic incident involving an active shooter in central Christchurch".

Ambulance crews were filmed taking the injured away from the scene of the shooting at a mosque in Christchurch.

"One person is in custody, however police believe there may be other offenders.

"This is an evolving incident and we are working to confirm the facts, however we can confirm there have been a number of fatalities."

Officers were at several scenes around the city.

"We understand that there will be many anxious people but I can assure New Zealanders that police is doing all it can to resolve this incident.

"We urge New Zealanders to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour immediately to 111."

He asked Christchurch residents to stay inside and said all mosques around the country should shut their doors.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said it was one on New Zealand's "darkest days".

Waikato law professor Al Gillespie said it was too early to speculate on the motives of the shooter, but drew a distinction between mass shootings and terrorism.

Terrorism was politically motivated, and international trends showed it was primarily motivated by jihad, left-wing and nationalist sentiment, he said.

"New Zealand terrorist threat risk is 'low' … compared to the rest of the world we're one of the safest countries in existence.

"If it's more than one person involved, then it's not a lone wolf, and then it's a cell, and the whole point of these security services is that these cells are detected."

    HOSPITAL ON ALERT

Stuff understands the emergency department at Christchurch Hospital has been cleared out. Hospital staff are expecting about 40 to 50 injured people.

Armed police have been checking all vehicles outside Christchurch Hospital.

"We have approximately 20 emergency ambulances and operational vehicles at scene providing support."

The charity is sending additional resources from around the country "to support our people on the ground at the Christchurch firearms incident".

Deans Ave has been closed, while Linwood Ave has been closed between Aldwins Rd and Worcester St, and Brougham St (State Highway 76) has been closed between Antigua and Durham streets.

About 20 armed police have worked to clear buildings in Linwood, including Eastgate Mall, which will be closed for the rest of the day.

    CHILDREN IN MOSQUE

A man, who would not give his name, said he was praying in the Deans Ave mosque when he heard the shooting start.

He managed to escape, but saw his wife lying dead on the footpath outside.

"My wife is dead," he said, wailing. His head was supported by other Muslim men who prayed for him.

Another man said he saw children being shot.

Dozens of people were shot by a man wearing military uniform, who emptied at least two magazines.

"There were bodies all over me."

Ranzan Ala said everyone started running to one of the doors when the shooting began. Once he got outside and ran away, he saw he had blood on him from other people.

"Oh my God, I don't want to see this kind of thing, it's a nightmare. It's going to be there for weeks and months."

His friend from Fiji was also in the mosque with him and was missing.

About 20 to 30 children had been among the roughly 500 people inside, he said.

Argyle on the Park owner Lena Borodin said she saw a man in a silver car pulled up outside her motel and shoot an elderly Muslim man who was walking toward the mosque.

The shot shattered the driver's side window of the gunman's car, Borodin said.

The elderly man, aged in his 70s, was shot in his side. He lay on the ground outside a unit at the motel until a police came and helped him.

The gunman, who she described as young and skinny, then drove away.

A bloodstain can be seen on the concrete where he lay at the motel.

    'INDISCRIMINATE SHOOTING' DURING PRAYERS

A resident on nearby Freyberg St said she heard "hundreds" of shots and it was "terrifying".

Muslim Association of Marlborough chairman Zayd Blissett said he found out about the shooting from a text sent by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand at 2.04pm, saying "50 shot" during Friday prayers in Christchurch.

"I'm just heartbroken. In fact I'm sitting here crying," he said.

"This is New Zealand. This can't happen here."

    UPDATE:

49 people now confirmed dead, some of them very young children, and 48 more seriously injured
Four people have been apprehended, three males (one of whom is confirmed to be of Australian citizenship), & one female - there may be more
Explosive devices were found on each of the two vehicles involved
All local flights out of Christchurch have been suspended, the immediate area is still in lockdown
Anti-Muslim views were posted before the shootings and the entire shooting was videoed live stream to social media by one of the suspects wearing a body cam (not yet publicly available and have been removed by Facebook & others)
Local & overseas Intelligence suggests this attack was well orchestrated and planned in advance with outside (foreign) help including providing the shooters with armaments & explosive devices (NZ is effectively "gun free")
Now being labelled as the worst terrorist attack in NZ

Thankfully, FB has taken his video down.

Not before "The Daily Stormer" folks were able to capture and link to it, however.

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This is starting to smell a little fishy.

Why would the shooter even say that? Did he really?

It seemed like an opportunity for the journalist to turn this tragedy into a hit piece on Pewdie Pie. Refer to further comments below.

Who is PewdiePie? Behind controversial YouTuber praised by New Zealand gunman

PewdiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, is a 29-year-old YouTuber and comedian with 89 million subscribers.

He was referenced by New Zealand gunmen just before the horror Christchurch mosque shootings on Friday, who said: "Remember, lads, subscribe to PewDiePie," referencing the popular Swedish YouTuber.

Responding, PewDiePie wrote: "Just heard news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch. I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by this person. My heart and thoughts go out to the victims, families and everyone affected by this tragedy."

But just who is the YouTuber and why is he so controversial?

He hit the big time after uploading scores of videos showing the Swedish national playing video games with OTT commetary.

But 2017 one of the videos "appeared to show" him using the racial slur "n****r".

He was accused of promoting racism and anti-Semitism.

Disney then dropped Swedish YouTube star from his lucrative platform. He had amassed close to 14.7 billion video views on his main channel alone.

The move came after after he published a number of offensive anti-semitic videos.

In one of those videos, he had paid two people in India through a crowd-sourcing platform for holding up a sign that read "death to all Jews."

    This is even more fishy.

This journalistic piece reads like a tptw wishlist of "to be censored public personalities in Australia and New Zealand."

Is this journalistic trying to provoke a emotional reaction against white people in Australia and New Zealand with all the white supremacist talk?

Australian gunman opens fire in Christchurch mosque terror attack

    AUSSIE GUNMAN’S MANIFESTO EMERGES

The gunman’s manifesto contains “white supremacist” propaganda. Mr Buchanan told 1NEWSNZ he had seen the manifesto, and the shooting is “clearly the case of a white supremacist.”

In the 73-page document, he said he had planned the attack for two years and had a location lined up three months before the attack today.

He goes on to describe himself as an “eco-fascist”.

“I was a communist, then an anarchist and finally a libertarian before becoming an eco-fascist,” he wrote.

He claims to have had brief contact with Anders Breivik, who was a far-right terrorist who killed 69 members of a youth league summer camp on the Norwegian island of Utoya in 2011. He killed a further eight through a car bomb in Oslo.

He was a member of anti-immigration, far-right groups and claimed to be a member of a new order of Christian Knight Templars.

The gunman also wrote of how he supported US President Donald Trump “as a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose,” but not as a policymaker.

He goes on to reference Candace Owens: “The person who has influenced me above all is Candace Owens”. Owens is an outspoken US pro-Trump activist known for her criticism of Black Lives Matter and of the Democratic Party.

In a chilling post on a social media forum posted last night, the ring leader — believed to be an Australian — stated: “I will carry out and attack against the invaders and even live stream the attack via Facebook.”

His display profile photo on the extremist forum (8 Chan? or 4 Chan?) featured a cartoon man wearing a wide-brimmed Dundee-style hat, clutching a VB beer captioned, “hold still while I glass you.”

In his post before the attack, the man posted: “If I don’t survive the attack, goodbye, godbless, and see you all in Valhalla!”

In Norse mythology, Valhalla is a “majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard, ruled over by the god Odin”.

The main lesson here is, it's an atrocity if a Muslim individual is killed after they immigrate.

But an American soldier, using drones, can do the same thing to a funeral or wedding party in an Arab country and we won't usually even know about it.

Or, the U.S (and Canada) can supply Saudi Arabia with arms to slaughter Yemenis by the hundreds of thousands and that's accepted.

So, if you are a Muslim, morality morphs based on geography.

Terribly sad days for Kiwis. It is difficult to even begin to understand what drives these actions - let alone way down in the antipodes. I mean why here?

What s known is that he was a white Supremisist. Initial reports state he was very well prepared (over 2 years in preparation) and really well financed given his cache of weapons.

Now I know reports at the time of such actions can get confused and mis-reported - however i just wanted to record these 2 things somewhere.....

Remember the 2 mosques were just 10 mins apart
It was reported that a perpetrator was shot dead by someone in the smaller mosque. If this is true it means at least someone at the mosque was armed (prepared)and perhaps expecting something and

A lady on the news said that they knew of the plans as she had read them on facebook. This means they were advised.

Neither of these comments have been repeated - so it could have been a misreporting (or the gag orders) I did note that at question time with the police commissioner - he was asked about the face book notice and they were investigating it. (so they know) I have to say the lady was very matter-of-fact. It aired on TV1

What on earth was Podesta doing here Clarity??

If I hear of anything report worthy I will post it.... and If I can track links will let you know. NZ is a small place - Its so nice to have somewhere safe to post :-)

And so it continues drawing comparison to the Port Arthur massacre and implying more restrictive gun controls are necessary.

New Zealand’s Gun Laws Draw Scrutiny After Mosque Shootings

The shootings that killed at least 49 people at two mosques in New Zealand on Friday have placed new scrutiny on New Zealand’s gun laws and sparked a fervent debate about whether they were a factor in the gunman’s decision to carry out his attack there.

The man was identified in court papers as Brenton Harrison Tarrant, 28, and officials have said he was an Australian citizen, which has led to comparisons between gun laws in Australia and in New Zealand.

While New Zealand’s laws governing the purchase of semiautomatic rifles are more restrictive than those in the United States, the country is much freer with firearms than Australia is, allowing most guns to be purchased without requiring them to be tracked.

“New Zealand is almost alone with the United States in not registering 96 percent of its firearms — and those are its most common firearms, the ones most used in crimes,” said Philip Alpers of GunPolicy.org, a clearinghouse for gun law data worldwide. “There are huge gaps in New Zealand law, even if some of its laws are strong.”

New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, said on Saturday that five firearms, including two semiautomatic weapons, were used in the attacks.

“If he went to New Zealand to commit these crimes,” Mr. Alpers said, “one can assume that the ease of obtaining these firearms may have been a factor in his decision to commit the crime in Christchurch.”

In the years since a gunman killed 35 people in Port Arthur, Tasmania, in 1996, Australia has embarked on one of the world’s most expansive efforts to rid a society of gun violence. Officials significantly strengthened gun laws, severely restricted semiautomatic weapons and engaged in a buyback program that took more than 650,000 firearms off the streets.

The gun laws in New Zealand are more layered, and do not fit easily into a pro or anti-gun rubric.

Semiautomatic rifles and handguns, for example, require special licenses; a person can only buy one semiautomatic weapon at a time. “The police will look very askance at you if you want four or five of them,” Mr. Alpers said. “It gets harder and harder if you want more and more.” Still, Mr. Alpers said, it is possible to obtain a large cache of weapons — either by acting alone or if more than one person is purchasing.

As the law stands now, any person age 16 or older with an entry-level firearm license can keep any number of common rifles and shotguns without an official record of those guns being kept.

Most of the guns in circulation can be sold on the internet or through ads in newspapers, and the most popular types of firearms can lawfully change hands in private homes or even hotel parking lots with no requirement that a record of the transaction be kept.

Still, the country has generally been safe from gun massacres. Its last mass shooting, which left 13 people dead, was in 1990 — and it led to tighter rules around semiautomatic weapons.

Police officers do not generally carry firearms and murders are rare; the death toll from Friday’s terrorist attack is roughly equivalent to the number of murders that occur in the country each year. The annual tally of gun homicides specifically is even lower.

“New Zealanders are by and large safe users of firearms and that has led everybody to relax,” Mr. Alpers said. “It’s led New Zealanders to think they don’t have a problem.”

[The gunman appeared to be steeped in the culture of the extreme-right internet.]

At the same time, however, New Zealand’s gun culture is significant and deeply ingrained. Like the United States, Australia and Canada, New Zealand’s frontier history has led to a proliferation of guns used for sport, for protecting wide open spaces from animals, and for dealing with problems like wounded cattle.

Of the 3.9 million New Zealanders of gun licensing age, 238,000 — 6 percent — have a firearm license, according to GunPolicy.org.

“Our gun laws will change, now is the time,” Ms. Ardern said Saturday, though she did not say what that legislation would look like. “People will be seeking change, and I am committed to that.”

Mr. Alpers predicted that lawmakers would work to make guns harder to obtain.

“This will certainly change things in New Zealand,” he said. “I can’t think of a country that’s more likely to change its gun laws after something like this.”

    This is even more fishy.

This journalistic piece reads like a tptw wishlist of "to be censored public personalities in Australia and New Zealand."

Is this journalistic trying to provoke a emotional reaction against white people in Australia and New Zealand with all the white supremacist talk?
They’re giving Tarrant his desired effect (his target is not just NZ and Aus but all European nations). His manifesto, titled “The Great Replacement: Towards A New Society We March Ever Forwards” (title referring to his views on white genocide and response) begins with an introduction and then goes into a Q&A section where he answered questions he anticipated would be asked. From the Q&A section, parts of the answer to the question of why he carried out the attack -

Quote To incite violence, retaliation and further divide between the European people and the invaders currently occupying European soil.
Quote To agitate the political enemies of my people into action, to over extend their own hand and experience the eventual backlash.
Quote To create an atmosphere of fear and change in which drastic, powerful and revolutionary action can occur.
Quote To add momentum to the pendulum swings of history, further destabilizing and polarizing Western society in order to eventually destroy the current nihilistic, hedonistic, individualistic insanity that has taken control of Western thought!
Quote Finally, to create conflict between the two ideologies within the United States on the ownership of firearms in order to further the social, cultural, political and racial divide within the United states. This conflict over the 2nd amendment and the attempted removal of firearms rights will ultimately result in a civil war that will eventually balkanize the US along political, cultural and, most importantly, racial lines.
This balkanization of the US will not only result in the racial separation of the people within the United States ensuring the future of the White race on the North American continent, but also ensuring the death of the “melting pot” pipe dream.
From the article you posted -

Quote He was a member of anti-immigration, far-right groups and claimed to be a member of a new order of Christian Knight Templars.
He didn’t write that, here’s what he wrote -

Quote Are you a part of any political groups or movements?

I am not a direct member of any organization or group, though I have donated to many nationalist groups and have interacted with many more.
    Also -

Quote Did the groups you support/are aligned with order or promote your attack?

No. No group ordered my attack, I make the decision myself. Though I did contact the reborn Knights Templar for a blessing in support of the attack, which was given.
    And -

Quote Did/do you have ties to any other partisans/freedom fighters/ethno
    soldiers?

I support many of those that take a stand against ethnic and cultural genocide.Luca Traini, Anders Breivik, Dylan Roof, Anton Lundin Pettersson, Darren Osbourne etc. But I have only had brief contact with Knight Justiciar Breivik, receiving a blessing for my mission after contacting his brother knights.

Were your beliefs influenced by any other attackers?
I have read the writings of Dylan Roof and many others, but only really took true inspiration from Knight Justiciar Breivik.
    (Justiciar means administrator of justice.)

For the record, here’s what he wrote about Trump -

Quote Were/are you a supporter of Donald Trump?

As a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose? Sure. As a policy maker and leader? Dear god no.
    And Candace Owens -

Quote Is there a particular person that radicalized you the most?

Yes, the person that has influenced me above all was Candace Owens. Each time she spoke I was stunned by her insights and her own views helped push me further and further into the belief of violence over meekness. Though I will have to disavow some of her beliefs, the extreme actions she calls for are too much, even for my tastes.
And Owens took the bait when the predictable reaction happened, see her Twitter account for her reaction.

In New Zealand, Signs Point to a Gunman Steeped in Internet Trolling

A camera mounted to his head, the gunman who livestreamed part of his savage attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday began his video by casually making reference to a current internet meme.

He appeared to be steeped in the culture of the extreme-right internet. And in the terrible minutes of video that followed, he proved to be a nonchalant, unrepentant killer.

As of Friday night, the gunman had not been identified by the authorities. But just before the attack began, a man who said he was a 28-year-old from Australia published a link on a right-wing forum to an 87-page manifesto, and another link on the same forum to a personal Facebook page with the video that would soon document the slaughter.

Based on the video, the manifesto and social media posts, a picture has begun to emerge of a man primarily driven by white nationalism and a desire to drive cultural, political and racial wedges between people across the globe. That, he hoped, would stoke discord and, eventually, more violence between races. (Confirmed by Rachel in the above post)

Interesting theory could this be a false flag?

Limbaugh Floats "False Flag" Theory NZ Shooter Is "Leftist" Who Staged Attack To Frame Conservatives

Following Thursday's deadly terror attacks on two New Zealand mosques, which left 49 people dead, radio host Rush Limbaugh mentioned an "ongoing theory" that the shooter - identified by Australian media as 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant, is actually a "leftist who writes the manifesto and then goes out and performs the deed purposely to smear his political enemies."

"You just can't -- you can't immediately discount this," Limbaugh added. "The left is this insane, they are this crazy."

This is just so sad. The gun man is from the town next to where i live. What strikes me as odd about this is yesterday when reading some local news articles i read that 2 years ago the gunman had travelled to Pakistan and posted on social media about how honored he was to be among such good people there. There was a direct quote that really demonstrated his respect, but i can no longer find anything specific.

It seems strange that someone, in such a short period could go from a respectful world traveller to a full on white supremacist so quickly. What happened to change his views so radically?
