'Mighty Mice' Stay Musclebound In Space

    Published 7th September 2020

Bulked-up, mutant "mighty mice" held onto their muscle during a monthlong stay at the International Space Station, returning to Earth with ripped bodybuilder physiques, scientists reported Monday.

The findings hold promise for preventing muscle and bone loss in astronauts on prolonged space trips like Mars missions, as well as people on Earth who are confined to bed or need wheelchairs.

This morning I was having coffee lamenting that my hummingbird feeders were quiet. No chirping and humming of the flock who normally attend my feeders. Summer is passing and they are migrating I thought. Then I heard them, chirping and coming in to feed, slowly at first. I looked around and realized my hummingbird tree is full of resting hummingbirds. They began to fly around my head, wishing me the best of the day, I have the distinct feeling they are saying goodbye for now!

Not sure if this was the thread where we were talking a out our dogs and cats waiting for us to come home....anyway, our dog was comfortably sleeping on the couch when I notice him pop his head up and stare off into nothing. After about 5 secs he gets up and goes to the front door. A minute later my wife calls and says that she is about 15 minutes from home so I should put the oven on to warm up the pizza that she is bringing home.

Our dog knew that she was on her way home

But I knew it too as soon as he woke up and went to the door

Yeah, Patient, it's really nice when our pets show us that kind of bond with us.

I had a cat for 14 years and she knew when I was coming home as well. Most people think cats are not as loyal as dogs, are more attached to their surroundings than their owners and won't listen to what you are saying.
Well, mine did. She used to play catch with me when she was young, she used to snuggle up to me when I was sad and one day my father was doing some gardening for me while I was at work. As always she'd joined him, played with him (jumped on the shovel etc) when suddenly she ran into the house and stood on the windowsill in the kitchen which is at the front. My father was wondering what had got into her and followed her, looked outside with her but saw nothing. But then he saw my car coming around the corner and was bewildered that she had known I was coming home even before she could see me.
She passed on over 10 years ago, but I still have very fond memories of her and the bond we shared.

I think there was a thread some years ago focusing on Rupert Sheldrake's book "Dogs Who Know When Their Masters are Coming Home", and his work on morphic fields. The Mods might be able to find it.

This one is quite interesting as the herd of horses that she was meditating with added her to their herd so she would never be alone after some friends left her. Horses are so amazing and, slowly, people are beginning to understand animals are fully sentient. Not human, but horses are people too.

I wanted to post this when I remembered Sasha and her thoughts about horses

My sweet friend Jenny Andrews (aka Jenna Hive) tells us the amazing story of her powerful experience during a meditation with my lead horse Montaro, and the rest of the herd. And a transformative lesson she received about losing friendships. If you've ever lost a close friend, you'll want to watch this. We happened to have the cameras out as we were filming Mustang Herd Integration and so luckily managed to catch much of her story on film. Some comments from the page:

    Quote Heather Mefford

*I worked as an equine specialist and I was left in awe how equine therapy works with troubled kids and their families. I was a first responder for over 20 years and have developed a rather thick skin. I accepted the job at the therapeutic ranch and approached it as being the horse’s primary caretaker and observer during sessions. It took less than 2 weeks before I witnessed a miracle...

There was a child with extreme anger management who would attack EVERYONE if angered, frustrated or overwhelmed. She loved a particular miniature horse and would usually request her to work with. One day she had had a very bad day and showed up for her therapy session with smoldering anger. That miniature refused to do anything with her... She repeatedly avoided the girl. Finally, the girl became so frustrated that she turned to me with tears in her eyes and begged for me to “catch” that bratty horse. I asked her HOW she was feeling and she finally answered that she was very, very angry. That’s all it took...

She paused and thought about it and I watched the concept click in her head that horse’s WILL always avoid someone that is feeling very angry, frustrated or any other extreme or unbalanced emotion. She looked at me and said “I’m scaring her with my anger? I’m not angry with her...” I replied that all horse’s need to be able to trust you and when you’re that angry it frightens her. She literally made the connection that her out of control emotions and impulsivity was HURTING her relationship with her favorite horse. From that day forward she made impressive progress and I was privileged to watch her becoming a much more happy and more confident person.*

this reminds me a little of something I read--can't recall where but it was presented as an actual recently past event--about a farmer who always treated his herd of cows (milk cows, I hope) with affection and respect. Each cow had a name and the farmer spent time every day with very cow. One day he was out in the pasture doing something, maybe mending a fence, when suddenly an irate bull started to charge him from another quarter of the pasture. Immediately his herd gathered around him and sealed him off from the bull. The bull charged back and forth in front of the cordon the herd had formed but finally went away without harming either cows or farmer. These things happen.

    Beautiful!
I heard those words before...."You are one of us!" by a beautiful horse call Oksana. I remembered the moment a few hours ago. Now, I experience this video. Its an honor to know them in this way.
Thank you for creating the video and sharing it with us. Heart hugs to all.
I just saw this post. So BEAUTIFUL!
When I was about 4 years old I was at a relatives' farm. I was not being watched closely and I heard the call for two horses to come into their pen area. One horse was lingering and my untrained 4 yo self thought I would be helpful and push the horse at his hind quarters. He promptly kicked me high and low in the field. I was black and blue, no broken bones and lost my dimes out of my penny loafers. lol.
This is when I became afraid of horses. As beautiful as they are I have yet to overcome this. The horses I have ridden since have either thrown me off or just stood still.
This beautiful story is touching my heart and gave me the impetus to sit with a horse or two and meditate and overcome my fear.
Become one with them. I see a way now to face this fear. Thank you.

Another beautiful story, raregem, thank you for sharing it and finding inspiration for a way to heal your fear. Horses are big and can be frightening, I've been there but have always been able to pick myself up and go back to them.

I can do this because I know they startle easily and can react quickly but I have never found them to be mean spirited, just frightened or startled.

I really do love your idea of meditating with them, I see this as a good road to take

Tabby was found in the hay shed during a very cold winter night, barely alive, an abandoned kitten.

After being fed and kept warm he became used to people and visited our home every evening. He has something to eat and follows you around and likes watching movies and documentaries sometimes.

This photo was taken while he watched a King Kong movie with amplifiers and all. I thought the noise would frighten him, but instead he stayed for about half an hour enticed by the sound and action.

It's been a while but I feel another reminder is in order.

    All animals are magical.

Five parrots removed from public view after swearing at customers at popular Lincolnshire attraction

The chief executive of Lincolnshire Wildlife Park had to temporarily remove five newly adopted parrots from public view after they started swearing at the customers.

He said: “For the last 25 years, we have always taken in parrots that have sometimes had a bit of blue language and we have really got used to that.

“Every now and then you’ll get one that swears and it’s always funny. We always find it very comical when they do swear at you.

“But, just by coincidence, we took in five in the same week and because they were all quarantined together it meant that one room was just full of swearing birds.

“The more they swear the more you usually laugh which then triggers them to swear again.

“But when you get four or five together that have learnt the swearing and naturally learnt the laughing so when one swears, one laughs and before you know it just got to be like an old working men’s’ club scenario where they are all just swearing and laughing.”

The birds were soon put out on display – but it didn’t take long before the swearing resumed.

Mr Nichols, who admits it is rather funny when the birds swear, said: “Literally within 20 minutes of being in the introductory we were told that they had sworn at a customer and for the next group of people, all sorts of obscenities came out.

“And for one of our young girls they really gave her some abuse.

“We found it highly amusing and the customers were fine – they were no problem at all.

“But we worried because we had a weekend coming up and children coming.”

Despite wanting to give people a laugh during some incredibly worrying times with coronavirus, a decision was made to put the birds where they couldn’t be heard before children arrived.

Mr Nichols said: “We put them in an off-shore enclosure with the intention that hopefully they will start learning the other parrot’s noise that are around.

“They are African grey parrots and they are very, very good at learning vocalisations from all sorts of noises.

“What we will do now is release them out but in separate areas so at least if they do swear it is not as bad as three or four of them all blasting it out at once.”

Mischievous Cat Labeled 'Problem Child' Finds A Mom Who Adores Her
    Jan 6, 2018
Everyone thought this cat was a "problem child" because she has an INSANE amount of energy. She was returned by 5 different families! But as soon as her new mom met her, she knew they were meant to be together.

I cat-sat recently for three kittens, two females and one male, the latter of which was like the cat in the video.
He simply could not sit still for even a minute and ran circles around his poor sisters who would sit huddled together in the same spot, motionless, with the saddest, most resigned expressions on their faces.
The only time they had a moment's peace was when he had finally exhausted himself and collapsed into sleep.
And the owner wanted to keep the hyperactive male and give the sisters up for adoption, though if it had been me, it would most certainly have been the other way around.
Though it would be entertaining to see what two such hyperactive cats would get up to if put together...pandemonium would surely ensue!
