Default The 1963 TV show - The Outer Limits

This show is so far ahead of its time that even now no sci-fi show or movie or even threads here or other forums have really begun to explore the topics shown there. I can't even suggest another must-watch and I have seen most sci-fi shows and movies (multiple times).

    A typical example is: The Outer Limits ( 1963-65 ) S01E07 - O.B.I.T (full video)
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4jov9q

In this show, an alien who has helped with the ubiquitous installation of mind monitoring says something quite profound when forced to reveal himself --
    - The machines are everywhere.
    Oh, you'll find them all.
    You're intelligent people.
You'll make a great show of smashing a few but for every one destroyed, hundreds more will be built.
And they'll demoralise you , break your spirits, create such rips and tensions that no one will be able to repair them.
Oh, you're a sad and despairing planet.
And when we come here to live, you friendless, demoralized flotsam will fall without a single shot being fired.
Senator, enjoy the few years left you .
    There is no answer.
    You're all the same.
You demand and insist on knowing every private thought and hunger of everyone.
    Your families, your neighbors.
    Everyone but yourselves.

I'm going to have to go back and watch the show you linked to.
I was a young kid watching T.O.L. way back then and it gave me many a nightmare!
But I would still come back for more abuse each week.

Hah, me too, and at the time I could not begin to appreciate the depth of the messages and it was easier to digest more dramatic shows as I did not have the scientific or spiritual knowledge. I had in fact avoided the brain pain watching them at the time but in today's context the messages there are what we are living with now.

Most shows end with how LOVE is really pretty much the only solution to most issues we face.

PS. Granted that today's tech is so much more advanced for making effects, but ultimately they drown out the need to use one's brains and reasoning capabilities.
Also most sci-fi today does not bother "teaching" anyone really anything, especially sorely needed logical skills or providing a proper framework for spiritual growth. Things just happen because someone presses a button - there - done

I was a great show. And don't forget "The Invaders" - the amazing thing about that show was every week the aliens were up to something that mirrored what NWO maniacs are using on us today. The Invaders was also way ahead of its time.

    First episode--The Invaders 1967, S1Ep1 "Beachhead"

I am so glad that there are others here that appreciate this show.
I will also watch the "Invaders" which surprisingly I have not seen or at least not seen recently.
    Thank you all!

If I remember rightly the series just finished without a real ending (series cancelled)

Always remember the alien give away - a crooked little finger, which strangely I'm sure I've heard mentioned in some "real life" encounters. Makes you wonder how much of that series was born out of real encounters and a possible reason the series got canned.

Loved the Invaders as a kid, although you have to look past the social programming (the paranoia, painting all ETs as negative) inherent in the theme.

It's also interesting that Roy Thinnes (as David Vincent) started out on the show as a semi-reluctant sceptic - there was a sort of goofiness about much of the sci-fi on TV at the time, and he was worried about ruining his career. But that quickly changed. In fact, just days before the completed pilot was about to air, Thinnes was witness to a real and quite spectacular UFO sighting, seen by many (somewhere in California) that shocked the bejesus out of him.

Our television was controlled by my grandmother. She watched only soap operas, Bonanza, or other dramas boring to an 11 year old boy. I would walk next door and watch The Outer Limits on their TV, then walk back home in the dark. Some of the shows would leave me very scared. The walk home seemed long and threatening.

Thanks for the memory. I really loved that show, the genesis of my interest in other worldly things.

Actually they hinted an ending. Top Air Force officials on the way to a meeting with the people (David Vincent and his group) who were trying to warn about the Invaders, saw one of the aliens burn up right before their eyes. Now top Air Force generals were convinced there was cause for alarm and they went into the meeting with Vincent. Doors closed. That was the last episode.

Years before Outer Limits, there was One Step Beyond (these shows were not sci-fi, but supposed to be based on real life psychic or otherworldly experiences, here are 2 particularly good episodes.)

    One Step Beyond "Emergency Only"

One Step Beyond - "Tidal Wave"

The handsome actor Robert Culp (of I-Spy fame) played a couple of great roles on The Outer Limits, of which my favorite was the episode "The Architects of Fear"

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0667826...m_flmg_act_123

If you cue to about 1:39, you'll see a very different looking Robert Culp (as an alien.)

This is my hand after 75 years here on this planet. You may recognize the crooked, small finger as an invader signature. (The finger cannot be straightened without braking it.) Seriously, I did enjoy the show, and also the Outer Limits.

Intranuclear / The Inheritors is mesmerizing. Its epic in its reach and suggestions. It doesn't matter how cheap, how fabricated the special effects are compared to today. They are quite secondary to the great writing and the implications of this great story. And a young Robert Duval is great. Anyone that loves this show, I immediately love as well , for our hearts are synchronized . a must see!

If you have Amazon Prime, which I do, all the shows are "free" including the remakes.
Dailymotion has most of them free also.
