    Default Little People

    Hi, I was in west Wales recently and saw a local exhibition on 'fairy' art, or the tylwyth teg as they are known locally, I'd read about the daone sidhé previously so this exhibition peaked my interest as I've read various books by Jacques Vallée and been fascinated by his theories regarding the extraterrestrial phenomenon changing in appearance in repsect to the time period. Afterwards I dug a bit further and came across the Isiki (or Asiki) of African lore and was hoping someone can point me in a direction for more of these kinds of myths?

    cheers, Doug.

    Doug, sorry I can't help you with your quest. I love the name tylwyth teg, I had never heard it before. Welcome to the forum, Doug.

    Hi Vervesenter,

    Welcome...and thank you for this request. Hopefully it will spurn some discussion as well! The book 'Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries' is probably the best book out there on the topic. It was written in 1911, so the perspective is a little antiquated, though scholarly. And it's a net positive that it IS a little antiquated as the author's investigations are not as tainted by modern preconceptions. For this reason alone, it has tremendous value.

    One quote from a little person were words to the effect that, "we used to be plentiful here until the clerics drove us out." That suggests that the mind set of Christians became rigid enough that it created a mental barrier for beings that may be reliant on a more open human mental realm whose impact on the imaginal realm may be so intense as to spill over into physical space.

    Hi Verve
    I've always had a problem with the legends of little people living inside the earth and using caves to come to the surface. And then I ran into the story of the Pedro Mountain Mummy. This is one of those amazing stories that tends to remove most of the doubt about those little guys existing.

    http://www.legendsofamerica.com/wy-littlepeople.html
    Quote
    To the Shoshone Indians of Wyoming , this small race of people were known as the Nimerigar and their legends told of the little people attacking them with tiny bows and poisoned arrows.

    The Nimerigar were also known to kill their own kind with a blow to the head when they became too ill to be an active part of their society. Though part of the legend, this practice of sometimes killing the infirmed was a also a regular part of life for many of the nomadic Indian tribes.
    The Pedro Mountains of south central Wyoming photo
    courtesy Bureau of Land Management.

    Though many believe these "little people” to be only the stuff of legends, several discoveries point to the contrary, the most significant of which, was a 14” inch fully formed mummy found in 1932. Called the Pedro Mountains Mummy, he was discovered when two men were digging for gold in the San Pedro Mountains about 60 miles southwest of Casper, Wyoming.

    After continually working a rich vein and running only into more and more rock, Cecil Main and Frank Carr used dynamite to blast a section of the mountainside to get at the gold. After the dust cleared, a cave could be seen in the rock face. The small cavern was about 15 feet long and 4 feet high and had been totally sealed off from the outside world by a thick wall of rock.

    As the men entered the cave they were surprised to see a small a pygmy-like man sitting cross-legged upon a ledge. The tiny mummy was only about 6 ½ inches tall in its seated position, and estimated at 14 inches tall in a standing position. Its skin was brown and wrinkled, its forehead low and flat, its features displaying a flat nose, heavy-lidded eyes and a very wide mouth with thin lips. The face looked like of an old man. It was so well preserved, its fingernails could still been on its hands and the top of its head was covered in a dark jelly-like substance that was still pliable.

    The two prospectors took their find to Casper, Wyoming and in no time, scientists came from all over the nation to have a look at the mummy. Sure that it was a hoax, extensive tests were performed when the professionals assumed it was a pieced-together work of taxidermy. However, the anthropologists would soon be surprised to see that x-rays displayed a perfectly formed, manlike skeleton. The tests also showed that the mummy had been killed violently, as the spine was damaged, a collarbone broken, and the skull had been smashed in by a heavy blow. The soft substance at the top of the head exposed brain tissue and congealed blood. After the tests were complete, the scientists estimated that the mummy was a full grown adult who was approximately 65 years old at the time of his death. One odd finding was that its teeth were overly pointed, having a full set of canines.
    I will add that a dentist bought the mummy after viewing it as authentic. He continued performing tests and X-Rays until he was mysteriously murdered and the mummy stolen never to be seen or heard from again.

    I'm in agreement with folks who think the Smithsonian has been scooping up the remains of giants from all over the United States since the 1800's. I think as time went on various parts of the government decided to extend the secrecy afforded to the remains of giants to other creatures such as Sasquatch and apparently little people. Any life form that would upset the apple cart of Darwinian thinking is now viewed as something that can not be allowed to see the light of day and as such influence public opinion as to the existence of.
    So in short, there appears to be a conspiracy of sorts to aquire all physical bodies that are not in the Darwinian line of thinking.

    I lived in Hana Maui for a few years working on the Hana Hotel. You can still see the many fish ponds supposedly built by the Menehune (little people) in one night. The natives there still think there is something to them

    Menehune are a mythological dwarf people in Hawaiian tradition who live in the deep forests and hidden valleys of the Hawaiian Islands, hidden and far away from human settlements.

    The Menehune are described as superb craftspeople. They built temples (heiau), fishponds, roads, canoes, and houses. Some of these structures that Hawaiian folklore attributed to the Menehune still exist. They are said to have lived in Hawaiʻi before settlers arrived from Polynesia many centuries ago. Their favorite food is the maiʻa (banana), and they also like fish.

    I also lived for many years in Denmark and met many icelanders who had their stories about the little folk aka faries

    Several years back, the kids and adults went for an early evening walk. I caught my nephew who was six or seven give a wave towards a row of forsythia bushes. His face said it all. He checked to see if anyone saw what he saw. I leaned over and whispered, “You see them, too?” He shook his head and grinned.

    There was a place on the property that my siblings and I named, “Fairyland”. It was marshy with streams that meandered and broke off into smaller ones. The land was full of fiddlehead ferns and purple and white violets, skunk cabbage and thorns. It covered at least a couple of acres. We lined the trails that lead up to our secret place with fallen white birch trees. I only saw the fairies and elves out of the corner of my eye and there was an inner knowing. I’d get that tickle in the belly.

    Iceland is supposed to be a hotbed, "elf" can mean anything from gnomes to giants there.

    In my view, the "little people" are not dwarf persons, but elementals. Since this is bizarre, when seen, the human mind projects an image of body and face onto what otherwise could only be described as a blob of energy. The closest thing it seems people can tolerate would perhaps be a mountain elemental, I think a lot of folks can take a steady look at a mountain peak and find a thin vortex over it. This is like a big, fixed version of the mobile little people.

    There probably are organic, physical dwarves as well, which we're not supposed to know about.

    In Indian and Tibetan lore, classes of elementals are also part of the human system, and so standard medical or psychological health includes "correcting the relationship", so to speak. The Yeti is also considered a non-physical being which at times is able to manifest, although more divine. So there are certain places that have "special classes of beings", such as Himalayas, or Ireland--Wales. Elementals, generally, are everywhere and everything. This is probably Pantheism, and would state something like there is a gnome, he lives in the crust, spends a few million years making uranium, then does amethyst, and so forth, and lives presumably as long as the planet. The pixies, brownies, and so forth, would be similar, but involved more with flowers or something else.

    Wow, Thanks folks for your responses. Looks like I've got my summer reading sorted!

    Another thought on the actual word 'tylwyth teg'. I think the first word is pronounced 'tee-leeth' or 'ti-leef' which brought to mind the slang term 'tea-leaf' meaning thief and whether this originated because fairies were well known for stealing personal objects? Set my mind abuzz anyway!

    Baba Lokenath Brahmachari, a very advanced Yogi spoke of observing little people high in the Himalayas. He stated that the little ones would leave them roots to eat although they would not have direct contact with the Yogis. He stated that they spoke a language that he had never heard before. I highly recommend this book about his most amazing life.

    From p.44 of the PDF:

    ~~~
    “During our stay there, we saw some very unusual human beings of very short height, ranging from one foot to one and a half feet. Their bodies were white complexioned and they moved about naked in the icy polar region.
    At first, they were quite frightened when they saw our tall human stature. When they saw our peaceful attitude, they realized that we were harmless creatures. They collected kandamul (wild roots) for our food and would leave the roots near us, but they would never come close to us.
    We could not understand a bit of their language. But we observed them for a long time quite closely and could understand them by their behavior patterns. We discovered that there was no institution of marriage in their society. They moved about most freely. Although I could not understand their language, I could grasp certain words which they often used like ‘ambian’ and ‘dhokar.’”
    Yes, the Huldufólk, the hidden people, are a phenomenon associated strongly with Iceland, a country with a population of less than my city, a country that feels more like a village, where they will build roads around places where the hidden people live. Here's a fun little article about that. https://www.ancient-origins.net/myth...iceland-005870
    While I have experienced some oddities in my life I've not yet seen an elf. I believe they're out there, but perhaps more of a nature spirit than a "tiny human being", something associated with the consciousnesses of the plants and mountains and such which exists in a very similar vibration. I am a wee bit superstitious, though, and whenever I lose a small item I quietly implore the fairies to return it, and if it shows up in an odd place I know I already looked and would've found it, I thank them.
    I would like recommend two books from R. Ogilvie Crombie:
    Quote "Meeting Fairies: My Remarkable Encounters with Nature Spirits" (2009)
    Fascinating meetings with fire and water spirits and interactions with the elf king--one person's remarkable encounters with the fairy realm More than 40 years ago Robert Ogilvie Crombie, or Roc as he was affectionately known, found himself in Edinburgh Botanical Gardens, where, to his great surprise, he found himself looking at a faun. The remarkable, life-changing experience opened up the world of fairies to him, and was the beginning of many profound encounters with the nature spirits. Designed to look like an old fairytale book, this is the first compilation of Roc's precious encounters with the fairy realm. His warm and detailed accounts reveal a world many yearn to learn about.
    Quote "The Gentleman and the Faun" (2009)
    In the "Scientist and the Faun" the reader follows Robert Ogilvie Crombie's (ROC's) experiences and encounters with Pan and the elemental kingdom in the Botanic Garden in Edinburgh and the path that led him from there to the Findhorn Community where he encountered more elementals and fauns. In one conversation with Pan at the Botanic Garden ROC talks about other people being jealous of his abilities and asks why he is able to see Pan and the elemental kingdom and receives this reply from Pan: Communicating with my subjects is not a garden game for the odd half hour when there is nothing better to do. It is of vital importance for the survival of mankind. Unless humanity comes to realize the dangerous stupidity of outraging nature and stops the ever-increasing rate of pollution it will ultimately destroy itself. Seeking cooperation between the three kingdoms - the Devic, the Nature and Humanity's, as is an aim at Findhorn, is one way of helping mankind to survive. ROC gave many lectures over the years on his experiences with the nature kingdoms all of which have been incorporated into this new book. This book includes new material by David Spangler, Dorothy McLean and other Findhorn community members sharing their experiences of ROC and his abilities.
    I have read two books that provide an insightful depth into the ‘Little People’.
    Elementals are real and I believe that they assist the planet in very beneficial ways. These beings exist on a different realm and dimension than humans, which is why most of us can't see them so readily. The author below is fortunate to have the ability to see and perceive these beings and tells a wonderful and fascinating story of her encounters with them. She also offers ways for others to make a connection and work with elementals as well as guidelines for manifesting.
    ‘Summer With the Leprechauns: A True Story’ by Tanis Helliwell.
    An astonishing true story about one woman’s journey to Ireland where she lived in a cottage with leprechauns. These seldom-seen beings taught her about the evolution of elementals—the race to which leprechauns, faeries, elves, trolls belong. They explained the importance of humans and elementals working together for the betterment of both of their races and the Earth.
    The leading male leprechaun’s urgent message for humanity: "Humans are harming our own environment and theirs." With charming style and humour, Ms. Helliwell recounts the instructions from the Leprechaun on how humans can interact with elemental beings, as well as revealing the fascinating relationship she developed with this delightful fellow.
    ‘Pilgrimage with the Leprechauns: A true story of a mystical tour of Ireland’. by Tanis Helliwell's
    .
    A true story of a mystical tour of Ireland is a romp to the sacred sites of Ireland accompanied by a leprechaun who is helping her and her thirty fellow pilgrims face their blind spots. They have a topsy-turvy encounter with the mischievous, wise humour that the Irish call "The Craic." "The Craic cannot be pinned down and, when you try to do so, it joggles you out of your comfort zone and laughs at you. It is both the great cosmic joke and cosmic joker. The Craic is magic. The Craic comes, whenever it wants, and does, whatever it can, to move us into deeper knowing and truth. The only approach a sane person can take towards the Craic is to surrender to it, as any resistance is futile.
    Thank you Silvanelf for the book recommendations.
    Related to things Faun/Pan:
    Claude Debussy (classical composer) wrote a piece called Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune / Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prél...i_d%27un_faune) in 1894. The music seems to meander and wander along to who knows where....
    In 1912, a ballet was created by Nijinsky for the Ballet Russes; it was quite different and rather controversial at the time. Here is a recent performance: https://youtube.com/watch?v=V_LrFJsgmJc
    Thanks RunningDeer,
    It would be lovely if it were true. However, nature beings are truly difficult to capture on camera.
    However, little beings maybe true.
    For me they are
    See this post:
    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/sho...=1#post1393705
    I have pictures of myself and others surrounded by orbs.
    I once had a little cottage by the sea, I used to always see blue and purple lights in the living room. My plants used to have a misty aura on occasions and I also used to experience very small lights on certain areas the floor.
    Gaia's joy.
