The interviewer asked the same question of Lionel 4 different ways, but nevertheless Lionel was able to use this interview as a platform (which is of course why he was invited) to call for someone(s) with the means to sue, and/or lobby for federal legislation, to do so and get case law or federal legislation requiring news reporters with the "stature" of ABC to be held accountable in negligence for failing to report "news" they have a duty to report.

They questions invoked include whether: (1) there is such a duty, which is a question of fact arising from the circumstances, (2) what the duty is, and (3) how do you determine if there has been a breach of duty? Then, if there is a breach and negligence is found, what are the damages? What relief is available? Money? Injunction? Both?

Lionel closes by making clear that at this time there is no law imposing any duty on the media to report a particular event.

Perhaps that is the way it should be. I think so. It is a slippery slope to give any one or any group the power to dictate what must and should be reported. That is a form of censorship and more.

Meritorious news reporting comes down to integrity and honesty, which cannot be legislated.
