Default Yeasting your boogo — Or, where does your ego strength come from?

This may be an interesting topic to discuss, and share some perceptions and experiences.

It's not about egotism, or narcissism of any kind. It's simply about feeling good about yourself. With no-one else around, looking at yourself in the mirror and knowing you're okay. That's healthy, admirable, desirable, and everyone wins.

The great motivational speaker Jim Rohn pointed out:
Self-acknowledgment is a sign of maturity. Seeking acknowledgement is a sign of immaturity.
So: what do we each do (or have we done) to establish and consolidate our ego strength? If you, reading this now, feel okay about yourself — why is that? What can you share here that you're proud of? Or even feel quietly very satisfied about?

In short: what do you really quite like about yourself? It's really okay to share that here, if you'd like to.

I like the fact that I put in the most effort in all I do, and I excel (from my viewpoint)

Although others mention it to me constantly, it does have a certain feel good vibe about it, I look inside myself to confirm it...

    No slacking!

    • I hate myself for my shortcomings and for not quite being as perfect as I would want to be, but at the same time, I know that I always do everything I do to the best of my abilities, and above all, with the best of intentions.
    • I tend to put others before myself, and I also tend to go the extra mile, but I will never sacrifice my honor, my integrity or my ideals.
    • In spite of all that I've already had going against me in my life, I'm quite amazed at ─ and proud of ─ what I've been able to accomplish all of my own account. And with that, I mentally raise a big fat middle finger in the face of all those who've done their best to put me down and/or keep me under their thumb.

After everything I've been through, I've never gave up.

I like that in real life I am very reserved.

Sometimes I make people laugh. Or people laugh at me. Something like that.

Me too. Life is a roller-coaster, but it only gets painful if you try to get off it as the ride is going, we need to suck it up, not give up and make it the end, whatever that looks like. So far, I'm glad I have, even through the hardships, this fact gives me strength...x N

Sometimes I surprise myself with my tenaciousness. Such as recently wasting enormous amounts of time figuring out how to turn my Dell laptop into a dual boot macOS/Linux Hackintosh... :-)

The right Words may elude me here because I think in spanish and write in english.
I think I have to thank my parents because they raised a very secure person with the love they gave me. Never had serious doubts about important decision I have made , always secure of my self worth and never needing validation from anybody for what I am or what I have done. I feel good about myself. Everything that life has thrown at me I have face upfront.

I am not perfect, nor a saint. I am a survivor. A positive person. I don’t mess with anybody and do not allow anybody to mess with me. One of the things I most like about myself is that I know how to be alone. In my space. Reading , learning , gardening or cooking , never bored.
Very happy with the life I have made, the kids I raised and the friends I have kept for decades.

I should maybe chip in here, with an example that might be no surprise to anyone here who knows me quite well.

I regularly hike with my dog in very high and remote wilderness areas close to where I'm fortunate to live here in Ecuador. I'm quietly proud of my experience, judgment, and ability to do things that many people half my age might find challenging, or impossible.

It's just another developed skill set. Trivial to others, but it feels here that it counts when I return at the end of a long day and feel pretty good. Others may be accomplished painters, dancers, cooks, parents, or teachers. Or carpenters, healers, or engineers. It doesn't really matter what we do, as long as we do it well, by our own standards — not necessarily those of others.

I'm pleased with my command of logic, unending sense of curiosity, my quirky sense of humour and capacity to hold contradictory ideas. (I'm large, I contain multitudes!).
Not so happy with my courage, willpower or energy levels - on these I don't quite measure up to my own standards.
I've been told I should have been a teacher, that I make the complex simple, that I am lazer focused on the goal of any discussion.

    Boogo Yeasted!

    Thanks Bill!!!

Thanks. And then I spent a week re-doing it to make it a triple boot, adding Windows. There are no good instructions for any of this, you just have to trial-and-error it, which is extremely time-consuming.

I didn’t want to post on this thread, as we Dutch are programmed with the idea that bragging about yourself is a very bad habit. Even saying positive things about yourself.

So we have sayings like: ”Doe maar gewoon dan doe je gek genoeg” - Just be normal then you’ll be mad enough. Or: “Steek je hoofd niet boven het maaiveld uit” - Don’t raise your head above the mowing field.

But this morning, while harvesting some of my biggest green beans, which I tend to forget from time to time, an old song came up in my head and I started to sing:

    I HAVE BEANS, BEA-EA-EA-EA-EANS TO REMEMBER ......

..... and I started to laugh out laud and thought: wow, I can always make myself feel happy. I can laugh out laud about myself. But I also know I can make people around me smile, as I’ve been the “jester” of the family all my life.

once my friend Jay and i were discussing a certain time period where i was particularly miserable. i was by far the most depressed i'd ever been in my life. and this carried with it some guilt, because i felt like i was making those around me miserable as well. but i felt powerless to do anything about it.

i'd never shared this feeling of guilt with anyone. so i felt pretty good when Jay said to me: "despite how depressed you were and all that, you were still fun to be around.."

he'll never know how important that statement was to me. so i'm pretty proud of that...still being able to maintain some sense of humor while in the midst of hell.

i'm also proud of myself for not giving up on life, despite all i've been thru.
