Thumbs up Gel that makes teeth repair themselves could spell the end of fillings

    Source: NewScientist

Tooth enamel can now be made to repair itself by applying a special gel. The product could save people from developing cavities that require dental fillings.

Enamel is the hard, protective layer on the outside of teeth. It can be worn down by mouth acid and repeated chewing, leading to cavities that have to be plugged with fillings to prevent further decay.

Because fillings are made from foreign materials like metal, porcelain and resin, they don’t bind seamlessly to the tooth surface and often become loose.

To overcome this problem, Ruikang Tang at Zhejiang University in China and his colleagues made a gel containing calcium and phosphate – the building blocks of real enamel – to try to encourage teeth to self-repair.

They tested the gel by applying it to human teeth that had been removed from patients and damaged with acid. They then left the teeth in containers of fluid designed to mimic the mouth environment for 48 hours.

    New crystals

During this time, the gel stimulated the growth of new enamel, with microscopy revealing that it had the same highly ordered arrangement of calcium and phosphate crystals as regular enamel.

This is probably because in normal tooth development, the emerging enamel is coated in a disordered layer of calcium and phosphate particles – like in the gel – that encourages its growth, says Tang.

The new enamel coating was only 3 micrometres thick, which is about 400 times thinner than undamaged enamel. But Tang says the gel could be repeatedly applied to build up this repair layer.

Several other groups have tried to repair tooth enamel with calcium and phosphate mixtures, but they contained larger particle clusters that didn’t cling well to the tooth surface, says Tang. This made it difficult for the enamel crystals to re-build, he says.

The team is now testing the gel in mice and hopes to later test it in people. They will need to make sure the chemicals in the gel are safe and that new enamel can form in the real-life mouth environment, even when people eat and drink, Tang says.

I read a research article back in 14 about scientists at Harvard or mit discovering how to make batteries using carbon. These charged faster and held more charge than lithium-ion batteries at 5% of the cost. Being based on carbon, the environmental impact of these carbon batteries is minimal, especially when compared to the toxic nature of other batteries. The researchers claimed this new type of battery was only a few years away from commercial production.

So, the point of this anecdote is that although this battery technology was fairly advanced, we have not seen it introduced into the marketplace. I wonder who blocked it? There are a lot of wealthy interest groups who would love to see that tech buried, which it seems it has been.

So, I am saying 'don't hold your breath' for this treatment to come to market. If it comes to market I am sure it would be quite expensive and require very expensive 'specialists' to administer it. Meanwhile, I'll continue to floss and brush my teeth with baking soda and gargle, and avoid the dentist bill like the plague. 😲

I have seen dozens of dental advances and even miracles.........magically disappear. Same with new energies and the like.
Cuba even has an effective specific cancer vaccine.....now illegal.

What I do like about China and to a lesser extent Russia and India is that they will continue on in many areas. Although it seems they do not want to upset energy monopolies just as yet...it will be an non conforming outlier nation that dumps disruptive tech on the West to watch our corporate monopolies burn.

Thanks for finding this - disappointing its not available now. Looks like I'll have to make a trip to the dentist after all.

Fascinating. Found another source here( the University of Southern California) research team published article about their latest developments of enamel self-repairing gel in April 2018.

Could not find the “gel” quite yet but perhaps it’s on the way ...

Holistic, biological dentists are already doing things mainstream dentistry claims is impossible.

The teeth are extremely important in maintaining good health. They are pizo-electric devices that carry current from various organs.

She seems to have regrown her teeth, I saw some past videos regarding brushing her teeth with MMS. Unfortunately, they seem to have been taken off.

My dentist asked me if I wanted to keep the tooth they pulled recently. I looked at him as though he was from Mars...

This lady carries hers around in her purse. Go figure.

I do remember the visit a week before the extraction when I went in for a script of antibiotics for the infection. I was in pain and frustrated I would loose the ability to chew on one side of my face. The dentist said they would have to pull the molar when the swelling went down. I lost it. I said what kind of a profession is this where dentists regularly pull teeth that can't be replaced, causing irreparable harm to their patients. What kind of a complacent routine would allow an entire profession to make huge money, a very good living, and have nothing to offer their patients but savagery, pain, and false teeth - and then feel like they have the problem under control. Especially when there are so many promising avenues of research that could regrow teeth, prevent gum disease, and like above, re-mineralize worn enamel (goes to show you the extent of the ignorance when the word re-mineralize is flagged by my spell check without a suggested alternative - like such a word doesn't exist).

Then there is my girlfriend who went in for an extraction recently as well. The tooth was badly infected but that did not stop them from pulling it. She was sick for over a month, having to take three courses of antibiotics to recover. Her throat is still swollen and she can barely talk. She sounds like a squeaky mouse.

I sure could use some new enamel on all my front teeth. I grind my teeth and have worn half my teeth away. My teeth in front have the pulp exposed - with no method to reverse the problem...only more pain and trauma to look forward to in the future.

I sure hope they find better solutions for our teeth because as we live longer and longer lives, our teeth need to stay in better shape for far longer too. It is too late for me, but maybe not for our grandchildren.

I have the same problem. My upper front teeth all have "ledges" on the inside to where my lower front teeth have ground into them, and the enamel at the top of those lower front teeth has worn away.

I have two teeth that are still there, despite the fact that a dentist told me they had to be pulled. First was a front tooth. I believe that was in 2012. I could not bare to lose that one, so I cancelled out on the day of the pulling appointment, and went to another dentist. I went in cold, as I if hadn't had that other appointment, and that dentist never even mentioned a problem with that front tooth! It is still there, and fine as far as I can tell.

More recently, I had an infection in a back molar. I went in and was given amoxicillin, and the pain stopped. The doctor was scheduling an extraction, but I asked what would happen if I didn't have it removed. He said it would probably get infected again, and fall out on its own at some point. So I said I'd wait til the problems appeared. In the meantime, I play around with my "magic molecule" formulas, as I like to call them. I mixed up a toothpaste just this morning, with various natural ingredients that I researched along the way. So far (18 months) that molar feels tight and strong and great. haha Guess time will tell.

Ramiel Nagel has a great book called Cure tooth Decay. He saved his daughter's teeth through diet. Great Facebook Group as well. Dr Hal Huggins is also very very good. IIRC lotsof bone broths no sugar and some other things for diet.

As it relates to infected teeth pls PLEASE be aware that every root canal is INFECTED forever!
I saved my infected tooth by the oddest way possible. After trying everything imaginable from colloidal silver to Ozone therapy ( pretty good actually) to garlic ( great for pain relief...bt IT BURNS!)

    What worked? Leech therapy!!!!!!
4 of them sucked the infection right out of the tooth and gums. The grossest thing I have ever done in my life....I remember seeing them hanging out of my mouth pulsing...and when they are done you bleed for hours. I destroyed several pillows that night.....bonus: they numb you and your aching tooth and also inject a lot of enzymes and antibiotics and anticoagulants during their feeding. Apprently happiest day of the leech's life as they only feed once and then are "medical waste" I think it is called hirudology or leech therapy. Also good for other issues too.

This Dr has passed on but his book Root Canal Coverup is still available.
