It’s not just Google. It’s also Ten Cent. It’s also Facebook. It’s also Twitter.

And no, you’re not misreading the clear narrative intent of these articles.

Where possible, China wants to criminalize any speech … any social media … that does not follow the official party line. Where it’s not possible to criminalize that speech, China wants to ban it through the cooperative censorship of global tech and media platforms. Where it’s not possible to ban that speech, China wants to shame it into the shadows by getting us to reject it as “fake news”.
This post eloquently sums up my frustration and anger over the warfare on information being waged against the world.

As the information flow dramatically diminishes after Tedro's call to arms, how is it even possible that WHO can have such an overarching power of censorship over Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and all the world's media? It's nothing short of totally astounding to see the scope of this! It's as if the entire world is kowtowing to China's attempt to suppress the information.

What trump card is China holding that they have been given license to infect the entire world with this virus?
    Can anyone answer this question??????

Exclusive: Chinese Regime Deploys 1,600 Online Trolls to Suppress Information on Coronavirus
    February 18, 2020

The propaganda department in virus-stricken Hubei Province has engaged over 1,600 censors to scrub the internet of “sensitive” information relating to the coronavirus outbreak, according to an internal document obtained by The Epoch Times.

The internal report, dated Feb. 15, detailed the agency’s efforts to ramp up censorship measures. It was drafted after a speech given by Chinese leader Xi Jinping via video link on Feb. 10 to “frontline responders” of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, where the virus first broke out.

The revelations come as the Chinese regime tightens information controls over the worsening outbreak, as netizens have increasingly turned to the internet to vent their frustrations about the authorities’ response, or document what is happening on the ground.

The illness has seen a steadily growing official list of infections and deaths on a daily basis. Experts and commentators, however, believe the actual number of infections to be far greater, due to underreporting and shortages in testing kits and hospital beds—meaning many people are left undiagnosed.

According to the document, the department has hired more than 1,600 trolls, known as the 50-cent army in China, to regulate internet speech continuously, 24/7.

The trolls, through technological and manual screening, had identified as many as 606,800 posts online with “sensitive or harmful information,” it said.

Their approach, it said, was to “timely dispel the online rumors” and “strike powerful blows offline.”

As of Feb. 14, the online censors had deleted as many as 54,000 such “rumors,” and had social media influencers write nearly 400 commentary articles to shape the narrative.

The regime’s propaganda efforts, the report said, should be directed toward promoting the effects of officials’ outbreak control measures and the “moving deeds” of volunteers, community workers, and the police.

Some professional “internet commentators” had also made 400,000 comments to “counter the negative public opinions,” according to the document.

Posts mourning whistleblower doctor Li Wenliang, who died of the virus he was warning about in December, quickly disappeared from the internet in the hours after the news of his passing was first announced. “I want free speech,” a phrase that became trending on Chinese social media following his death, was also swiftly erased.

People attend a vigil to mourn for doctor Li Wenliang in Hong Kong, China, on Feb. 7, 2020. Wuhan citizen journalists Fang Bin and Chen Qiushi also recently disappeared after posting regular videos online highlighting the severity of the outbreak.

As of Feb. 11, over 2,500 people had signed a joint online petition expressing anger over Li’s death and criticizing the government for suppressing free speech during the outbreak. Several co-signees were subsequently summoned by local police. At least one was detained.

The department has also set up 11 work groups for the purpose of “wartime propaganda” work. The groups were communicating daily with propaganda officials from the central government to “coordinate public opinion” in real time on issues “online and offline,” “inside the country and overseas,” it stated.

    Ousting Local Reporters

According to the leaked report, at least 60 reporters from 33 overseas news agencies came to Wuhan after the coronavirus outbreak began earlier this year. However, at least 47 of them agreed to leave, through the department’s “communication and persuasion.”

As of the evening of Feb. 14, only five non-mainland outlets had reporters in Hubei.
To “lead overseas media to objectively report on the outbreak information,” the department has set up an international language section and have published 200 pieces on the outbreak from official channels in seven languages, the document said.

On Jan. 14, a group of reporters from at least four Hong Kong media were taken to a police station located within a hospital in Wuhan after trying to interview patients, according to local media.

The police searched their belongings and asked them to delete the videos taken around the hospital. They were only released after 1.5 hours of interrogation.

    Censorship Overdrive

The Chinese regime has made the suppression of information about the virus a priority.
At a Feb. 3 meeting, the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo Standing Committee, the top decision-making body, called for authorities to “strengthen internet and media control.”

This has filtered down to local authorities cracking down on people for “spreading rumors” on the internet about the outbreak.

Chinese state-run media have warned people not to “spread fake information” about the coronavirus, lest they be in violation of China’s Criminal Law.

A provision of that law states that anyone found fabricating and spreading false information on an epidemic, disaster, or police activity, can be sentenced to three to seven years in prison.

Washington-based nonprofit Chinese Human Rights Defenders documented 254 cases of arrests between Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, in which Chinese citizens were punished for “spreading rumors” relating to the virus. The forms of penalty included fines, verbal warnings, and forced confessions.

In a list of 167 cases of people punished for rumor-mongering published by U.S.-based website China Digital Times, the majority of the “offenses” were posts about confirmed or suspected cases in their city or neighborhood. Some included the number of deaths.

For instance, a man in Baoding City, Hebei Province, wrote on his blog: “I truly believe the authorities have not revealed the true number of infected patients. I heard that in a village about 20 kilometers [12 miles] from ours, the number of confirmed cases was six on Jan. 26. All were sent to the hospital for quarantine. But I have not seen any official reports that included these six cases.”

He received five days of administrative detention for this posting. Administrative detention refers to the arrest and detention of an individual without trial.

10 Very Important Questions That The Mainstream Media Should Be Asking About This Coronavirus Outbreak
    18 Feb, 2020

Why is the mainstream media so scared of asking difficult questions about this coronavirus outbreak?

At one time the United States had the greatest investigative journalists in the entire world, but today it is very rare to see any of our major news outlets go much beyond the basic facts of a story. In particular, the coverage of this coronavirus outbreak has been absolutely abysmal. Other than dutifully repeating the basic information being fed to them by the CDC and the Chinese government, mainstream media coverage of this crisis has amounted to little more than assuring everyone that everything is going to be just fine.

As a result, Americans are increasingly turning to independent journalists for some honest coverage of this outbreak, because they know that they aren’t getting the whole truth from the usual suspects. There is still so much we don’t know about this virus, and very few of our “journalists” are willing to dig deeper to find the answers we need.

The public is hungry for information, and getting to the truth starts with asking the right questions. The following are 10 very important questions that the mainstream media should be asking about this very alarming coronavirus outbreak.

#1 The Washington State Department of Health has announced that 746 people are currently being “monitored” for coronavirus symptoms. Are all 746 being quarantined, or are they being allowed to mix with the general public? According to the agency’s official website, it is unclear what “monitoring their health” actually entails…
The number of people under public health supervision includes those at risk of having been exposed to novel coronavirus who are monitoring their health under the supervision of public health officials. This number includes close contacts of laboratory confirmed cases, as well as people who have returned from China in the past 14 days and are included in federal quarantine guidance.
#2 In Hawaii, a local resident named John Fukiwara recently had very close contact with a Japanese man that later was confirmed to be infected by the coronavirus. After contacting health officials, why was Fukiwara told to “go about his normal day-to-day routine”?
That said, the Times reporter did manage to find John Fukiwara, a local resident who said he believes the Japanese man is a friend of his whom he would not identify by name. The man recently visited the island and had coffee with Fukiwara before they exchanged gifts of chocolate.
Fukiwara then contacted a local newspaper and then reached out to state health officials, with whom he offered to self-quarantine. But amazingly, state health officials told him to simply go about his normal day-to-day routine and to be sure to report any symptoms.
#3 If this coronavirus outbreak “isn’t that serious”, then why has everyone in Hubei province now been ordered to stay at home until further notice?
The central Chinese province of Hubei escalated its restrictions to contain a coronavirus epidemic on the weekend, ordering the province’s residents – including 24 million people in rural areas – to stay home until further notice.
#4 If this coronavirus outbreak “isn’t that serious”, then why did Russia just ban all Chinese citizens from entering the country?
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order temporarily banning Chinese citizens from entering Russia for tourism, personal reasons or work starting Thursday, Interfax reported, citing Deputy PM Tatyana Golikova’s office.
#5 Chinese officials have just released data which show that this virus “could be 20 times more lethal than the flu”. Why does hardly anyone in the western world know about this?…
The director of a Chinese hospital at the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak became one of its victims Tuesday despite “all-out” efforts to save his life, Chinese health officials said.
The death came the same day Chinese officials released data indicating the new virus could be 20 times more lethal than the flu.
#6 Why is this virus killing 15 percent of all victims that are over the age of 80?…
The deadly coronavirus rapidly sweeping the world kills up to 15 per cent of patients over the age of 80, scientists have revealed.
Chinese health officials carried out the biggest ever study on the never-before-seen strain of the virus, using data from 72,000 cases.
#7 On the flip side, why are so few children being infected by this virus?…
Scientists are still learning about the coronavirus outbreak that has killed 1,384 people and infected more than 64,000 in China. One of the biggest mysteries is why so few children have gotten sick.
The outbreak was first reported on December 31, but no children younger than 15 years old had been diagnosed as of January 22. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine said at the time that “children might be less likely to become infected or, if infected, may show milder symptoms” than adults.
#8 What is this coronavirus outbreak going to mean for the entire global economy? This is something that I have written about repeatedly in recent days, but the mainstream media in the western world continues to insist that this crisis will just be a small bump in the road. Meanwhile, over in India there are warnings that there could be “massive disruptions” and “shortages” if this crisis doesn’t end soon
Pankaj R. Patel, chairman of Zydus Cadila, said prices of medicine in India have exponentially jumped in the last several weeks, thanks to much of the medicine is sourced from China.
The Indian pharmaceutical industry is experiencing massive disruptions that could face shortages starting in April if supplies aren’t replenished in the next couple weeks, Patel warned.
#9 Why did the coronavirus continue to spread like wildfire aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship even after a quarantine was initiated?
A top health official at the National Institutes of Health acknowledged that the quarantine aboard the coronavirus-infected Diamond Princess Cruises ship failed while discussing the decision to evacuate hundreds of American passengers – 14 of whom tested positive for the virus.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said the original idea to keep people safely quarantined on the ship wasn’t unreasonable. But even with the quarantine process on the ship, virus transmission still occurred.
#10 The number of confirmed cases outside of China has doubled in less than a week. If the number of cases continues to double every week, how bad will this crisis eventually become?
    I’ll answer that one.

If the number of confirmed cases outside of China doubles every week, there will be a million cases just 10 weeks from now.

And once there are a million people with coronavirus walking around all over the planet, nobody is going to be able to “contain” it.

So let us hope that the measures that authorities are currently taking to control the spread of this disease will work.

President Trump believes that this outbreak will start to fizzle when warmer weather arrives, and I truly hope that he is correct.

Because right now this outbreak is getting worse with each passing day, and we definitely aren’t getting good information about this crisis from the mainstream media.

Default Re: The Wuhan Coronavirus [Covid-19, the Honey Badger virus]

    Good day, Folks.

I used to work in a "cancer research lab" years and years ago. Basically, Immunology and a bit of virology rolled into one. My cohorts and I would pour over the newest scientific journals and ponder the future. We had super containment labs back in the 70's. One was being built right in the middle of a middle sized city. Why? We wondered even then, if... IF....something got out, the middle sized city would be toast so quickly. The decision was more of convenience for the researchers, supplies, etc. Nothing will ever leave the containment labs. Hahaha - we said to ourselves. We knew even then...70's....that IF something wanted to get out, it would.

Now to this Corona Virus.... I am perplexed by .... "only believe in trusted sources".... who are they?
No matter the sources, I don't trust any of them. How do you know those folks dying in the streets are dying or fainting are fainting because they are hungry and not because of the virus. You don't know. Almost all the info we are receiving is guided to instill fear. IMHO
IF the Chinese Gov wanted to kill their masses, they have used other means in the past that had nothing to do with Viruses. They just killed their population.
If they want to kill off their aged population or the sick, they would do so.
They have a population crises anyway....reports of wanting to increase the population rather than decrease their population. The one child focused has not worked out for them. So killing off their child bearing population makes little sense.
IF the Chinese Gov wanted to make their people cashless....they would just make them not use cash and force paperless transactions.
If the Chinese Gov wants to make their people do anything, they would. So...what gives?

Whatever the real reason for this outbreak I think there is a bigger story going on. A bigger economic story. This virus has completely ruined their economy. It has hit the "Globalism" agenda at its heart. We will want to re-start our own pharmaceutical factories again so that we don't rely on Global system. We will become local again. Isn't that what Catherine Austin Fitts says....go local, buy local, stay local?

This is a global stick in the Eye of the Chinese Gov. For their expansion drive into Africa, South America, etc.? For their technology stealing ways?

Something bigger is going on. Just a gut feeling. Bigger......

Quote The regime’s propaganda efforts, the report said, should be directed toward promoting the effects of officials’ outbreak control measures and the “moving deeds” of volunteers, community workers, and the police.
That explains a lot. #wuhan and #coronavirus on Twitter are very different today, and really strange. Less horror tweets and more tweets as outlined in the quote above. Dancing police, English speaking neighbours in Wuhan saying **** you to each other (strange, previous clips were all positive and these were the first speaking English), and comedic clips of scenes, clearly Chinese comedic style (western style memes early on but been serious since).

This I find really odd, but interesting. There have been loads of tweets of the excerpt from the Dean Koontz book (posted on this thread) but also there were loads of tweets of an excerpt from another book and now I can’t find any of them (if there are any then there are very few, unlike previously). They have been scrubbed and replaced with misleading tweets.

The excerpt that is missing is from Sylvia Browne’s book, “End of days: predictions and prophecies about the end of the world”.

The quote is as follows -

“In around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and bronchial tubes and resisting all known treatments. Almost more baffling than the illness itself will be the fact that it will suddenly vanish as quickly as it arrived, attack again ten years later, and then disappear completely.”

The scrubbed tweets were images of the excerpt and most included an image of the cover of Browne’s book, the tweets were all clear on what book the excerpt was from. Now all I can find are tweets that show images of the excerpt from each book, together in one tweet, giving the impression that both quotes are from Koontz’s book, which is of course a fictional book. See the tweets below to see what I mean.

There is an article at WSJ below which reports on how the various US cities are struggling to keep track of the thousands of people who need to be tracked.

As of February 14, 5,400 people had been asked to self-quarantine in California alone. I didn't realize the magnitude of the people that may be already either voluntarily or forced quarantine.

Coronavirus Has U.S. Cities Stretching to Monitor Self-Quarantined Americans
Local efforts to prevent potential spread of Covid-19 have been like ‘one big, long bad day’

Public-health officials in the U.S. are striving to keep tabs on thousands of Americans who have quarantined themselves at home after returning from mainland China to curtail the new coronavirus, adding to an epidemic response that is straining already-stretched local departments.

More than 5,400 people had been asked to self-quarantine in California alone as of Feb. 14, according to the California Department of Public Health. Hundreds more are self-quarantining in Georgia, Washington state, Illinois, New York and other states.

Public-health officials are following directions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the State Department to supervise these people, but many steps are being developed on the fly. States are using a variety of techniques to track people from calling in volunteers to make phone calls, to sending text messages and using electronic registries.

Scientists racing to find a vaccine for the Wuhan coronavirus are hoping a cutting-edge approach called “rapid response platforms” will quickly yield a breakthrough. WSJ’s Jason Bellini explains what these are and how they work. Photo: NIAID

These people are separate from the Americans who are under stricter federal quarantine, including those housed at four U.S. air bases and the 328 who were recently evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Those groups arrived from locations where the virus was rapidly spreading, whereas the people self-monitoring at home are thought to be at lower risk of having been exposed to it.

So far, there have been 15 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the U.S., not including the potentially positive cases among those evacuated from the Diamond Princess. While health officials have investigated 467 people for the virus as of Monday, 392 tested negative, with 60 cases pending, according to the CDC. The immediate risk to the general public is still low, health officials say.

While public-health authorities are experienced with isolating, contact tracing and quarantining people to contain infectious diseases such as measles and tuberculosis, an attempt to monitor and quarantine people at this scale is a unique challenge. And quarantines typically apply only to those with a known exposure to a virus, rather than just travel history, public-health officials say.

“That’s a whole new scope of work,” Sara Cody, director of the public-health department in Santa Clara County, the home of Silicon Valley, which has had two confirmed cases of Covid-19. Both patients had returned from Wuhan, China, where the epidemic began.

A coalition of staffers, employees from other departments, health-care providers and federal officials engaged in a classic outbreak response to monitor people, such as family and health-care workers, who came in close contact with two local cases. And now, the department has added tracking recent arrivals from China to their to-do list. “We’re still in the middle of figuring out these operations,” Dr. Cody said.

Travel from mainland China to the U.S. has been sharply curtailed since many airlines suspended flights and the U.S. barred entry to most foreign nationals arriving from China. Still, some Americans continue to arrive into 11 airports designated by federal officials, and health authorities are on the lookout for passengers who are coming from other countries but were also recently in China.

Los Angeles County, for instance, is adding dozens of returning travelers to its monitoring list daily, said Barbara Ferrer, the director for the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

Those without symptoms who haven’t been to Hubei province, which includes Wuhan, are allowed to go on to their final destinations, but are asked to stay at home for up to 14 days, monitor their health, check in with their local health departments and contact their health-care providers if they develop symptoms, such as a fever or dry cough.

They are asked to avoid close contact with others, typically defined as being within 6 feet of another person for a prolonged period. Sometimes those who are self-quarantining are told they may go outside and exercise if no one is nearby, or grocery shop. The orders aren’t binding, but local health officials can issue stricter quarantine orders if necessary. So far, most people are cooperative, local health officials say.

State and local health officials say they get information on people who are self-quarantining from federal officials who screen them at airports. But sometimes local officials receive incorrect or illegible phone numbers for some, or just missing data for others, and have to circle back to federal authorities for more information to track down the person.

Seattle and King County in Washington state, which have roughly 400 people self-monitoring at home, have recruited volunteers from the University of Washington School of Public Health and the department’s Public Health Reserve Corps, said Jeffrey Duchin, the health officer at Public Health—Seattle and King County. The county is spending roughly $200,000 a week on the response, which also requires redirecting staff from other tasks.

For people under strict quarantine or in isolation after developing symptoms, public-health workers sometimes need to provide more intense services, including shopping for food and medication. Seattle and King County offer a dietitian-reviewed menu and deliver bagels, turkey lunch meat, avocado salsa, fruit and hair conditioner, among other items, to a person under investigation waiting for test results.

“The amount of manpower, both resources and time, has been tremendous, and so what that means is that our existing staff are working two jobs around the clock for several weeks,” said Dr. Duchin. “It’s been like one big, long bad day.”

In Chicago, the health department is surveying people daily with an electronic registry, which is part of its monitoring practice for other infectious diseases, and is in contact with them more directly as needed. Other health departments phone or email initially, then sometimes follow up in a few days or a week.

On Monday, the Washington State Department of Health started using a text-messaging system developed by the CDC. The state will send a daily text to new arrivals and will refer anyone who reports fever or other symptoms to their local health departments. Washington says it is the first state to use the system. The CDC has made the tool available to any interested health departments and is using it to check in on some of its own staff on the ground responding to the epidemic in the U.S., said Anita Patel, the lead of pandemic medical care and countermeasures at the CDC.

Public-health authorities say they are also working to fight xenophobia and misinformation around the virus. The Chicago Department of Public Health held a press conference in Chinatown last week to announce that all of the close contacts of their two Covid-19 cases had passed the incubation period and had been cleared—and then the team had lunch with local business leaders in Chinatown.

The effort is straining state and local budgets. States and some larger local departments receive support from the CDC’s Public Health Emergency Preparedness funds, though the money is meant for preparing for an outbreak and doesn’t often cover full responses, they say.

“We’ve been keeping close track of those costs and expenditures with the assumption that there would be additional funding available in time,” said Allison Arwady, the commissioner at the Chicago Department of Public Health. “We’re paying our bills right now, but we absolutely need additional funding to be able to maintain the level of response this is going to require.”

Many health departments say they are in a good spot for now, as close contacts to the early confirmed cases are passing the incubation period without new infections popping up. But based on the continuing spread of the coronavirus, some health officials expect to be on high alert for the long-term, saying this type of aggressive response might not be sustainable. Strategies might also need to shift if the virus gets a foothold in the U.S.

“I just look around, and there are a lot of people here because they’re just committed to the mission, but they’re getting tired,” said Dr. Cody. “This is what they believe in, and that takes us a long way, but it won’t take us for months and months and months.”

Just gonna leave these two tweets embedded here, apologies if already posted.

I can’t see the first one in the hashtags’ feeds anymore (checked back to the 14th, been near the top due to its popularity on previous days). See the thread for an english translation of the notice. There was also a video of an entire street of houses boarded up with people in them but I can’t find it and can’t remember the account.

There’s also far fewer tweets of the video in the second tweet showing up in the feeds now (this one doesn’t have a hashtag but I only found one earlier in the hashtag feed and as you can see it’s got a lot of attention). I wasn’t going to share it unless I could find a copy of the Chinese scientific report, but I’ve been unsuccessful so far.

So it appears the tweets are still there but aren’t showing up in the hashtags’ feeds and now the feeds are flooded with rubbish (some vulgar and some racist tweets included, hasn’t been a problem until now). So we should be sweet to just embed the tweets, since they’re not being scrubbed from the accounts and are just not showing up in the feeds (that’s where you go to see the latest news, will need to find and follow informative accounts now).

Nah, that’s Koontz in 1981. Browne’s book, which predicts the illness in 2020, was first published in 2008.

Even the flu is an epidemic that attacks every year, starting around the late 70's - it is a weaponized biological vector. But the propagandists contained that one and it is now an accepted part of normal life. An engineered virus gone amok.

Now with the modern tools of gene splicing and rapid sequencing technology a more virulent form of the same class of virus has again gone haywire.

Warfare no longer has the same face as it did in times past, nor as depicted in our romanticized interpretations from Hollywood. And remember, please, we have been at war for a very long time - they just want us to think otherwise.

We have been infiltrated by the enemy. They have first undermined our trust in government. They have sowed doubt and mistrust in our institutions. This was the occupation of our minds. From there they sowed division and pitted father against son. Next came the face to the enemy. Whether Russia, China, or Isis, no matter, just a face to hate. Next came the acquiring of true wealth through the free trade agreements. And finally, the infiltration of enemy assets into our territory by the millions. Next, if we allow it, will be the overthrow of government by political means, and the sidelining of long-term citizens by new 'arrivals'.

But so long as we believe the narrative, that a 'natural' virus has mutated to the point of epidemic, we will allow the eugenics agenda to continue.

#4 If this coronavirus outbreak “isn’t that serious”, then why did Russia just ban all Chinese citizens from entering the country?…[INDENT]Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order temporarily banning Chinese citizens from entering Russia for tourism, personal reasons or work starting Thursday, Interfax reported, citing Deputy PM Tatyana Golikova’s office.
It appears that China and Russia do not want the virus to spread in their countries, but the US agencies DO want the virus to spread in the US.

Iran state news agency says new virus has killed 2 citizens

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The new virus has killed two elderly Iranian citizens, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported Wednesday.

IRNA quoted Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to the country’s health minister, as saying that both victims had been carrying the coronavirus and were located in Qom, about 140 kilometers (86 miles) south of the capital Tehran.

The state news agency said later that schools and universities in Qom would be closed so an investigation could take place. No additional details were released.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian authorities confirmed two cases of the new virus, the first in the country, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency. Officials later said the two patients had died.

ISNA quoted an official in the country’s health ministry, Kiyanoush Jahanpour, as saying that “since last two days, some suspected cases of the new coronavirus were found.”

The virus causes the illness that the World Health Organization recently named COVID-19, referring to its origin late last year and the coronavirus that causes it.
The new virus emerged in China in December. Since then, more than 75,000 people have been infected globally, with more than 2,000 deaths being reported, mostly in China.

The new virus comes from a large family of what are known as coronaviruses, some causing nothing worse than a cold. It causes cold- and flu-like symptoms, including cough and fever, and in more severe cases, shortness of breath. It can worsen to pneumonia, which can be fatal.

First detected in China, the virus is believed to have originated in a type of wild animal sold at a Chinese market to be consumed as food.
Iran has applied safety measure on arrival flights at its airports to control a possible spread of the virus.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, nine cases have been confirmed in the United Arab Emirates, seven of them Chinese nationals, one Indian and one Filipino, while Egypt’s Health Ministry confirmed its first case last Friday.

Egypt’s Health Ministry only identified its sole case as a foreigner who is carrying the virus but not showing any serious symptoms. The ministry said the person was hospitalized and in isolation. It did not specify the person’s nationality or what port of entry he or she arrived at in Egypt.

The case in Egypt was also the first on the African continent. Experts and African leaders have expressed concern that should the virus spread there, it might wreak havoc among less developed countries with fewer health resources.

This story has been corrected to show that of the nine cases confirmed in the United Arab Emirates, not all are Chinese; seven are Chinese nationals, one is Indian and one is Filipino.

A comprehensive further update from Chris Martenson, posted last night. All his videos are getting 200k-300k (or more) views within days. For me, he's the best daily analysis source I know of. His videos come out regularly at about 7 pm US eastern time. He usually has 10k-12k people listening live.

A quote to bookmark (4:35): "This virus moves a lot faster than official policy."
