    Greetings fellow Avalonians

    Reporting from Santo Domingo Dominican Republic.

    5 cases officially recorded though it is known that there might be much much more due to the fact that there was a huge influx of people coming from Italy before the matter was taken seriously.

    The first patient, the Italian gentleman had been doing just fine for the past several days until today when it was reported the a slight pneumonia had started.

    Sources close to the healthcare profession have stated that its been here for some time now and that it has been kept secret in order to keep people from panicking.

    Yesterday a new case was confirmed and not by public health but by an official statement made by the company operating inside a building in the city. For some reason, that case would total 6 but it has been kept out of the loop why ?

    Fellow Avalonians, it is no surprise to any of us that the world is about to take a turn for the worse, this not to cause fear but we have a real threat in front of our eyes and the countries of the world have kept silent or evasive as to what might be really going on.

    This afternoon I spoke to a lady who is a business owner at the place I work at and she told me that the son of a relative of hers that lives in Italy- there is a huge Dominican population in Italy-had contracted this virus and dropped dead just like that. The young man was 28 yrs old and as far as she was able to tell me had no med issues.

    A co worker posted on her fb page the situation in South Korea before it appeared in the news, nobody believed her.

    Keep you posted as this situation develops, it is important to keep a record of all this and be prepared as best one can if there is such a thing in life, for what might come ahead.

    No, they won't.
    Agreed. Not one that is tried, tested and proved to be efficacious to a reasonable degree of scientific and medical certainty. That’s for sure.
    Disagreed. What if they had studied earlier?

    Why are they testing fever to separate/quarantine people?

    Fever or elevated body temperature might be caused by:

    A virus
    A bacterial infection
    Heat exhaustion
    Certain inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis — inflammation of the lining of your joints (synovium)
    dehidration,
    Food poisoning/allergies
    A malignant tumor,
    Less resting, sleeping
    Some medications, such as antibiotics and drugs used to treat high blood pressure or seizures
    Some immunizations, such as the diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP) or pneumococcal vaccine

    Why are they cremating bodies?

    Coronovirus needs living cell to proliferate.

    I am tend to believe that this event more dangerous to some creatures other than humans. It can not be only for gaining or establishing control over.

    Yes, but first of all, just because a person died from the infection doesn't mean that all of their cellular activity has stopped. Evidence has shown over the ages that certain cells remain alive for yet quite a lot of time after the person dies. For instance, the hair and nails still continue growing for quite some time ─ up to weeks, even.

    Secondly, and in line with the above, just because the patient's dead doesn't mean that the viruses inside their body would be dead too. Cremating the bodies is the only way to make sure that the viruses inside of them will also be dead.

    Maybe. By even so it could not reliably be certified as efficacious. Further, why would they have done that, or more to the point, even had any way to do that, with a novel (new) corona virus? As I understand it, being a novel covid by definition means it is new and thus no way to be sure what you are studying is in fact what is out there or will be out there in the future. It’s very much a mutating and moving target.

    In that case the question IMO should beg, why is the advent of Covid-19 such a surprise?

    Joe Rogan's guest is very sobering and I hear that we really must be focusing on how to modulate our personal immunity (neither over reactive or low response). The guest is giving middle of the road advice to get sleep, stay fit, eat well. I think that we can reach out to a wider spectrum like Wim Hof, John Bergman, Dr. Mercola.

    In this video, Joe Rogan displays his admiration for vaccines. He decries the antivaxxers as being so misguided. He does admit that there is harm for some but chalks it up to just the way things are. I just don't comprehend the inability to observe the effects of the massive vaccine program. It is not paranoia that more children are vaccine injured than hurt by infection now. The party line from pharmascience has permeated deep into the mind of these gentlemen. I see thinking as being dominated by whole blocks of information rather than selectively evaluating based on logic and true intelligence which is able to synthesize.

    I am really at a loss of what to believe now. Sometimes i read stuff from people who think the whole Corona Virus is fearporn driven by the media and i agree with that because that is what is happening. Then other times i read stuff about the Corona Virus not being taken seriously by goverments and that its much more serious then what most people think and i tend to go with that. Its like both sides being true at the same time. But i choose to focus on the first option. I dont wanna be guided by fear so i think of it as just a flu and will do everything that i can to help my own immune system.

    Hospitals used to be runned by real doctors with competence and experience. Now they are being managed or directed by lawyers, economists, politicians, bureaucrats and other people without any medical training whatsoever. At least here in Norway. That’s what you get when you mix the health of the people with profit.

    One of the results of the ongoing centralization in the health sector so far is fewer hospitals (people have to travel much longer distances) with more patients put closer together in bigger buildings (also in corridors).

    With Norway catching ‘the Italian version’ of coronavirus I think we’re in for a lesson of a lifetime. And I can’t stop thinking about the already suffering elders who’s been long time victims of political negligence and how this will turn out for them.

    It’s like I’m observing in my country an atmosphere ruled by a total absence of any constructive understanding of the situation – combined with a lack of empathy that I think soon will turn into complete disbelief, shock, and cognitive dissonance in many people.

    Several people are being seen braking their quarantine – at the store, at the gym, or skiing. If this continues, the government says, «We may have to use stronger measures.»

    Yes, measures they should’ve started using weeks or months ago.

    Update: 401 confirmed cases in Norway and my community had its first case yesterday; an individual who self-isolated after returning from Italy – a lot of Norwegains go skiing in Northern-Italy in their vacation.

    Just settle in the middle with "it's both".

    Certainly if you are over 60. Young people seem to have little to worry about. Personally, I'm taking the threat to my life deadly seriously, I'm over 60.

    The fact that there are two opposing camps about this just shows how juvenile the chatteratti on line is. This stuff is not a light weight boardgame of conspiracy family friendly fun for an hour or two while the telly cools off. There's a war for the future of humanity raging, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Neither side is ready to accept losing and the big boys toys are really coming out now.

    Why can't the fake propaganda AND the virus be equally real. Makes perfect sense to me.

    The real issue, in the coming weeks, is the likely collapse of every first world healthcare system through overload. (And the collapse of healthcare personnel, too.)

    Then the fatality rate will increase markedly. Not just because of Covid-19, but because other critical situations like heart attacks, strokes, and even car accidents won't be able to be treated properly either. Even if you avoid Covid-19 completely, it won't be a good time to get appendicitis or a broken leg.

    Italy, unluckily for them, is maybe a week or two ahead of the rest of Europe and the US. So this will happen in the Netherlands, too.

    You'll watch it unfold around you, even if you suspect the motives of the press or the politicians. The crisis will still be real. (I'm a kind of "journalist" here, too. My only motive is to inform people of the truth of what's happening, and will happen, so they can make the best personal decisions they can.)

    Do please watch the 10-minute interview below, where this Italian doctor, clearly a good man with zero agenda except to do the best he can for his patients, already has to make very hard decisions about whom to treat in intensive care.

    I posted the above before I'd read this from Angela Merkel just now.

    Whatever you think of her personally, what she says here is correct. She has a doctorate in quantum chemistry and worked as a research scientist until she entered politics. What that means is that she understands the exponential math that's running riot here.

    My source for her statement was this page.

    ~~~
    Angela Merkel has said 60-70% of Germany’s population will be infected with Covid-19, unless measures can be found to slow down the spread and develop vaccines in the time won.
    “When the virus is out there, the population has no immunity and no therapy exists, then 60 to 70% of the population will be infected,” the German chancellor told a news conference in Berlin on Wednesday morning.
    Merkel said the main focus of her government’s measures were to avoid overwhelming health services, and advised other European countries to set similar priorities. She said:
    “This is not about shutting ourselves off. This is about finding a mode of living where no health system in Europe is overwhelmed”.
This factory rep has always answered emails within two days in the past and has been very helpful.
    So far there has been no communication from this sales rep or other factory person. We have no idea now whether we will be able to get the machine which was paid for and was supposed to be ready to ship by now. I am sure that there are a lot of other people and companies having the same problem.
    So I think whatever is happening in China (coupled with articles on ZeroHedge and other sources), it appears to be quite serious.
    I will update this post as the situation develops.
    UPDATE: We finally got an email from the sales rep we have been dealing with at the Chinese machinery factory:
    "Sorry to reply you late.
    Because the China special time, we extend our holiday, plant to back office on 10th this month. When we start work, we will arrange the goods as soon as possible.
    Sorry the special time cause inconvenience for you.
    "
    I wonder if they are required by the government to use the euphemism "special time" to refer to whatever is going on in China.
    UPDATE: We received another email from the sales rep from the Chinese factory:
    "Thank you, we believe that the special time will be over soon.
    Our factory will start to work on 18th this month, then we will arrange the machine and parts as soon as quickly."
    We were told right before the Chinese New Year holiday in mid-January that the factory would get started with our order on February 1st. This email today reveals that the euphemism "special time" was not in reference to the Chinese New Year but to the current viral outbreak in China.
    Update: We have been informed by the sales rep for the factory that is custom building our machine that they have finished it except for an electrical plug that we can get in the US at Home Depot (for example). The factory is not in the Hubei province; it is about 200 miles north of Wuhan.
    We were told five days ago that they don't have that particular plug and that the factory that makes those plugs has not gone back to work yet.
    The next question is will it be shipped soon and do we need to disinfect the machine when we receive it? It has to go through US Customs when entering the US, so I'm wondering if Customs will be disinfecting everything coming into the US.
    UPDATE: We received an email three days ago that the factory that made the 220 volt plug for the machine we ordered was still not back to work. So they could not wire the specific plug that we had already ordered and paid for. We told them to send the machine anyway without the plug since they are widely available in the US.
    We received an answer this morning from the factory's sales rep that stated that our machine was ready to ship. She sent a picture of the wooden crate containing our machine (an herb grinder) that is ready to ship along with a couple docs we'll need for customs.
    We are very happy with the service we received from the Luohe Orange Mechanical Equipment Co. which is in the Henan province in the city of Luohe. However, if it were not for Alibaba being very difficult to deal with we would have already received the machine since we attempted numerous times to order it back in early December. So we had to eventually bypass Alibaba and pay directly to the factory via PayPal, which we should have done at the onset.
    I will continue to update this post as we follow the shipment to the US and then through customs.
    UPDATE: The machine we ordered from Luohe, China (Henan Province) is being shipped and is currently in Dongguan according to FedEx. It's supposed to arrive in North Idaho on March 16th (guaranteed) but I'll be surprised if it gets here that fast.
    However, according to this FedEx web page there is only a "Temporary Service Suspension" from Wuhan and Urumqi:
    Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak and measures imposed by governments around the world, there are
    currently unavoidable service impacts on both inbound and outbound FedEx and TNT shipments as outlined
    below.
    This information is provided for general guidance only. Due to the dynamic nature of the situation, the information
    is subject to change without notice. We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates
    as they become available.
    UPDATE: Our herb grinder (aka, hammermill) was shipped from Dongguan, then to Guangzhou and has now been flown to Japan at the Narita Station by the Narita Airport. So Fedex air freight from China appears to be mostly operational except from Wuhan and Urumqi.
    I wrote in this post yesterday about not even trying to list the many reasons why the Chinese statistics were still manifestly false. But here's one of many clear indicators. It comes from this page.
    It only takes a moment's thought to see self-evidently that if China really had solved its Covid-19 problems, they'd be wanting every citizen to be reporting exactly that to the world on the net, and no censorship would be needed any more. They'd be encouraging private reports of their crisis being over now.
    (I hope all the strange characters in this message are visible to readers out there! )
    ~~
    Chinese webizens are turning to ever more inventive methods to evade online censorship and spread the first-hand account of a Wuhan physician on the frontline of tackling Covid-19, writing it backwards, translating it into English, and even producing a Braille version.
    The article, which was published on WeChat by People Magazine on 10 March, was “immediately deleted across the entire network”, according to a report from Radio Free Asia.
    But the deletions only began a game of cat and mouse with the censors, as users firstly began using classic methods, like sharing screenshots of the contents, and then moved on to more inventive ways of obfuscating the text, including translations into Braille, Morse Code, English and Emoji.
    Here’s a sample sentence: ❤芬曾🌶🗾‍🥘1⃣份🧣💗肺👁病👤‍💦病☠检测‍🐆🗻,她用红色👊出“SARS冠☄病☠”字🐑,当‍).
    Other approaches included rewriting the entire text backwards, or writing it in “Martian”, by replacing every character with visually similar alternatives – so that the passage “艾芬曾拿到过一份不明肺炎病人的病毒检测报告” becomes the nonsense text “哎棼缯拿箌过┅份钚明肺燚病亡啲病蝳检测报告”.
    Eventually, RFA reports, even those articles were deleted.
    Hospitals used to be runned by real doctors with competence and experience. Now they are being managed or directed by lawyers, economists, politicians, bureaucrats and other people without any medical training whatsoever. At least here in Norway. That’s what you get when you mix the health of the people with profit.
    One of the results of the ongoing centralization in the health sector so far is fewer hospitals (people have to travel much longer distances) with more patients put closer together in bigger buildings (also in corridors).
    With Norway catching ‘the Italian version’ of coronavirus I think we’re in for a lesson of a lifetime. And I can’t stop thinking about the already suffering elders who’s been long time victims of political negligence and how this will turn out for them.
    It’s like I’m observing in my country an atmosphere ruled by a total absence of any constructive understanding of the situation – combined with a lack of empathy that I think soon will turn into complete disbelief, shock, and cognitive dissonance in many people.
    Several people are being seen braking their quarantine – at the store, at the gym, or skiing. If this continues, the government says, «We may have to use stronger measures.»
    Yes, measures they should’ve started using weeks or months ago.
    Update: 401 confirmed cases in Norway and my community had its first case yesterday; an individual who self-isolated after returning from Italy – a lot of Norwegains go skiing in Northern-Italy in their vacation.
    Sophocles, I have really appreciated your coverage of this event from Norway. You bring up a really good point. There will be all kinds of people breaking the voluntary quarantine policy. It will be so easy to rationalize in a million ways. The day late and a dollar short easy going PC philosophy is going to bite us in the butt.
    One thing I can see clearly, I can NOT rely on my government for any kind of concise leadership in an emergency.
    Hello everyone,
    speaking with our relatives in Italy, we found out their surprise, seeing american troops in combat gear going around our cities, without protective masks, and without minding the preventive measures which are in force in our country. This is while Italy has been raised to class 4 risk, that is, DO NOT go there. Except for about 20000 soldiers, that is. Do they have an antidote already? Hmmm...
    Curiously, starting on Feb 21 and now at full steam ahead, a NATO joint military manoeuvre (Defender Europe 2020) is happening in Europe, right in the middle of the pandemic.
    Alberto and Daniela
    Now, that IS very interesting indeed.
    My brother - in military service, still - and young family are based now in, yes, you've guessed it, Italy. Of course any details on his active manoeuvres can never be divulged but it may be possible I could find out whether there were any vaccination 'boosts' for troops based there recently.
    (In other news, the family are in isolation at home and all appear to be well at the moment.)
    Contrast this to CNN
    (CNN)If you thought coronavirus was no big deal or if you thought it was going to go away, wake up.
    Your life is about to change.
    Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, issued a disturbing warning during a White House briefing Tuesday: Americans everywhere need to change the way they live their lives. Right now
    Would you prefer to believe CNN?
    Bottom line: I can say with certainty that the CV is not an epidemic and will certainly not become a pandemic.
    But it already is. On both counts.
    I don't mean this unkindly. I'm sure you're a very pleasant, well-meaning person.
    But you're in total denial. And that's an abrogation of your professional, ethical responsibility.
    If I were in Arizona, and you were my licensed physician (assuming you're practicing, and are actively caring for and making decisions for the optimum welfare of your patients), knowing the publicly available information about this thing I'd not trust you to make any decisions on behalf of anyone I cared about.
    On the contrary, you'd probably be responsible for the deaths of quite a few very innocent and trusting people. Please wake up. You may kill others with your attitude.
    This is important. I mean every word I say here. Your blindness is frightening.
    There are 6 new cases in Colombia. Only 6. But this is why this is important. This article below is the first I've seen anywhere about Venezuela, a further disaster waiting to happen to what is already a nation tottering on the brink of total collapse. (See this thread for more: Turmoil in Venezuela.)
    Buckets for toilets, recycled gloves: Venezuelan hospitals await coronavirus unprepared
    10 March, 2020
    In a hospital in Venezuela’s western city of Maracaibo, chronic water shortages have left staff using paint buckets as toilets. With medical gloves in short supply, workers use the same pair on multiple patients.
    Years of recession, hyperinflation, and underinvestment in public services have left Venezuela in poor condition to confront any cases of the coronavirus that is spreading rapidly worldwide. Its hospitals suffer from chronic shortages of medicine and supplies, as well as frequent lapses in electricity and running water.
    So far, Latin America has been spared the worst ravages of the virus. Around 100 cases have been reported in the region since Brazil announced the first case on Feb. 26.
    But - with neighboring Colombia confirming its first case last week - it is only a matter of time before it reaches Venezuela, officials say.
    The Pan American Health Organization said last week it would be prioritizing Haiti, Venezuela and a handful of other Central and South American countries who have “more challenges to their health systems.”
    Hania Salazar, president of Maracaibo’s nursing school in the western state of Zulia, said hospital workers have been without supplies for years.
    “Workers bring their own kits with soap and towels, and their own water to drink and wash,” said Salazar.
    “They also carry paint containers because here there is no hospital that has a bathroom in good condition.”
    As in other parts of Venezuela, Zulia’s health system has hemorrhaged workers. Salazar said only emergency units were operating and workers often clock upwards of 18 hours a day.
    Residents say a lack of access to water or affordable soap can make basic hygiene practices - needed to guard against the spread of the virus - out of reach for many.
    “I am very concerned that in Venezuela there are no supplies, medicines, or even water in hospitals or homes,” said Josefina Moreno, a 50-year-old university professor with a history of respiratory disease. “The prevention measures that everyone is talking about are hard to comply with here.”
    Gustavo Uribe, president of a medical school in the state of Tachira near the Colombian border, said hand-washing would be difficult due to water shortages.
    “We’re asking everyone to comply with hygienic norms, but we all know about the precarity of the system,” he said. “The worry is that it will come here first, being by an international border.”
    Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said on state television on Monday that the country was implementing “strict controls” at ports of entry and a series of protocols in health centers. The government has issued a list of hospitals charged with handling cases.
    But some of those hospitals were not even open, said Douglas Leon, head of the Venezuelan Medical Federation.
    “There is no hospital in Venezuela with capacity to attend to a patient with a condition as serious as this,” he told a news conference on Monday.
