Boris Johnson seems to be banking somewhat on the herd immunity strategy.
It can't work. It'd collapse (maybe destroy) the National Health Service, and hundreds of thousands (maybe over a million) would die.

Herd immunity in the end, very probably, after the forest has finally stopped burning. But he might not win the next election.

For some reason I am finding comfort in watching Horror movies....go figure. You are right, Caliban..we have got to keep a balance here. Exercise, fresh air and sunshine go a long way. I went out an did some physical work outside to burn off my angst and it helps.

I think I heard the prime alarmist Mike Adams (The Health Ranger) recently state that the infection rate in China is now zero. Is that really true?

If it IS, that's astonishingly fishy.

its a good time to let go of the drill we all live everyday.

    Hello - some good news!

Some researchers here in Brisbane are working on a promising treatment for the virus. They’re raising the money now and are looking to trial it nationwide at the end of the month. They’re testing two drugs and both are already registered and available in Australia (HIV & anti-malaria), so this can happen quickly. One of the drugs was given to some of the first patients diagnosed in Australia, the virus disappeared and they made a full recovery from infection (also, both drugs have killed it in test tubes). If this works, and it looks promising, vaccines will not be necessary, the virus could just get killed off.

‘Cure’ found for coronavirus in Australia (Mar 16)

I’ll keep an eye on this and update you on the progress and results.

Default Re: The Wuhan Coronavirus [Covid-19, the Honey Badger virus]

Tomas Pueyo wrote an excellent article Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now about how fast the coronavirus is spreading and how to stop it.

To summarize, because of the incubation period and mild symptom cases, in places without a lockdown, the number of coronavirus cases is on average roughly 800 times higher than the number of deaths. The average growth rate is roughly 40%, so a doubling time of two days. This will overwhelm any medical system within two months after there is a death, if there is no lockdown.

The good news is, once there is a lockdown, within two weeks there are almost no more cases, and in a month there are no more deaths and no more cases. Over that month, roughly ten times as many people will die compared to before the lockdown. Then the lockdown can be lifted and screened travel can be restarted with other countries who have also eliminated their cases. Screening and contact tracing would still have to continue, but normal life could restart.

The message is to lockdown the country now. A lockdown means only transportation, pharmacies, groceries will remain open. Every two day delay doubles the eventual number of deaths.

In the article, charts for many countries are listed, and the doubling time varies. However, the conclusion for each is the same, at some point you have to lockdown the country for a month, and the sooner you do it the better.

Please share the article as widely as you can, it's a good way to show people how to stop the flu.

Remember vaping illness? Could there be something related?

The illness is now called e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI)

Someone with EVALI may have breathing and digestive problems, along with other symptoms, including:

    Fever
    Chills
    Cough
    A hard time breathing
    Shortness of breath
    Chest tightness
    Belly pain
    Loss of appetite (not hungry)
    Nausea and vomiting
    Diarrhea
    Weight loss
Some people say their symptoms formed over a few days, while others say it took several weeks. Those affected seem to have serious lung damage. They may even need intensive care and support with a ventilator, a machine that helps you breathe.

All this highlights a conditioned need for the state to look after us and a fear of death, both are unnecessary.
We dont need the state to make decisions for us on many levels.
Its common sense to limit interaction with others, time being, even to the point of temporary isolation.
It seems that in countries were lockdown has been used after a four week period there is no further spread of virus
Death is inevitable and certainly not to be feared.
All religions accept life after death.
However, good health is to be treasured and body and mind maintenance essential.

Sales of guns and ammunition are soaring across the US as fears of possible social unrest amid the coronavirus crisis are prompting some Americans to turn to firearms as a form of self-protection.

On the west coast, long lines of customers were queueing up outside gun stores to stock up on deadly materials. At the Martin B Retting gun shop in Culver City, California, the queues stretched round the block throughout the weekend.

One customer told the LA Times: “Politicians and anti-gun people have been telling us for the longest time that we don’t need guns. But right now, a lot of people are truly scared, and they can make that decision themselves.”

Larry Hyatt, owner of one of the country’s largest gun shops, Hyatt Guns in Charlotte, North Carolina, told the Guardian that the scenes of mass buying at his store were virtually unprecedented. “This is only the second time in my 61 years of business that we’ve seen anything like this,” he said, adding that the first occasion was the aftermath of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut in 2012.

“We are experiencing a massive rush to buy guns and ammunition as people feel the need to protect themselves and their families.”

Hyatt said that the type of guns being bought was reflective of the fear prevalent among customers. There was almost no interest in hunting rifles. Instead, people were opting for target guns and there was big demand for AR-15 semi-automatic assault-style rifles.

Asked why he thought the spike was happening, Hyatt replied: “Financial meltdown, pandemic, crime, politics … you throw it all into the pot, and you have one hell of a mess.”

A major online dealer of ammunition, Ammo.com, has put out figures for sales from 23 February to 4 March that give an indication of the scale of the surge. In that 11-day period sales increased 68% compared to the 11 days up to 23 February.

Sales were especially pronounced in North Carolina and Georgia, which experienced a leap of 179% and 169% respectively. Other states with large increases included Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, Illinois and New York.

In a statement, Ammo.com’s marketing manager, Alex Horsman, said: “We know certain things impact ammo sales, mostly political events or economic instability when people feel their rights may end up infringed. This is our first experience with a virus leading to such a boost in sales.”

Apart from general anxiety surrounding coronavirus, some gun sale spikes appeared to have specific causes. The Trace reported that in Washington state and California, locations of early outbreaks of the virus, gun sales increased acutely propelled by Asian Americans fearful that they could face xenophobic and racist violence against their families given that the original source of coronavirus was China.

“People are panicking because they don’t feel secure. They worry about a riot or maybe that people will start to target the Chinese,” David Liu, a Chinese-American gun dealer outside Los Angeles, told the Trace.

Amid the rush to stockpile lethal weapons, there were concerns for the safety of children. A sudden increase in guns and rifles in domestic homes could put children at risk through lack of safe storage.

Firearms are already the second most prevalent killer of children in the US after car crashes. In the 14- to 17-year-old bracket, gun injuries are the highest single cause of death, according to research from the University of Michigan school of public health.

It's common sense to limit interaction with others, time being, even to the point of temporary isolation.
One of the problems is that some people don't have 'common sense'. It's already being reported in many countries that younger folks (in their 20s, maybe) seem to think they're immune, and keep on partying, or gathering together.

Of course, even if they don't become symptomatic (and many younger people are infected now: 50% of the intensive care cases in Italy are aged between 20-50, with the youngest 16), they can still carry it and infect others.

Partly because of very poor information from various 'authorities', there's a great deal of invisible spreading happening. This is part of the reason we're all in this situation at the moment.

In our (so-called!) 'free society', many of us tend to think we're somehow individually privileged. We may not be, and we may be being irresponsible without even being aware.

That's why laws exist. A parallel may simply be speed limits when driving. Most people will exercise 'common sense'. But definitely not all.

I think I heard the prime alarmist Mike Adams (The Health Ranger) recently state that the infection rate in China is now zero. Is that really true?

If it IS, that's astonishingly fishy.
Chris Martenson posted this graph in his 15 March daily video update. It kinda says it all. (Exponential growth curves don't do this!)

From the UK Guardian rolling feed today news that Israel have rushed through emergency measures to implement (sic) mobile/cell phone tracking, something many of us have probably anticipated would be a negative effect of the extraordinary and in many cases necessary measures being implemented worldwide now. Of course tracking has been going on for really quite some time now, but, under cover of the pandemic, a perfect excuse to legitimise its use more widely. Major privacy issues here which may never be rolled back.

    Israel approves phone tracking
Oliver Holmes March 16th 07:32 GMT
Israel’s government has approved emergency measures to track people suspected or confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus by monitoring their mobile phones, immediately raising privacy concerns in the country.

The cabinet unanimously approved the use of the technology, developed initially for counter-terrorism purposes, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, first raised the issue during the weekend. He said authorities would use the data to notify people who may have come into contact with someone infected with the virus, and also to enforce quarantine orders.

In a Monday evening televised speech, the leader said the cyber monitoring would be in effect for 30 days.

“Israel is a democracy and we must maintain the balance between civil rights and the public’s needs,” Netanyahu said. “These tools will very much assist us in locating the sick and stopping the virus from spreading.”

Using emergency powers, he bypassed what would typically be a process of approval by Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. It had looked likely a parliamentary subcommittee would have delayed the rollout.

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel said providing the country’s internal security agency, the Shin Bet, with new secretive powers was a “dangerous precedent and a slippery slope that must be approached and resolved after much debate and not after a brief discussion”.

Netanyahu’s authority to implement such measures has also been questioned. The country is battling the coronavirus while also under an extending political crisis, with Netanyahu ruling as interim leader. His opponent, Benny Gantz, is prime minister-designate and attempting to form a government, although it is unclear if enough lawmakers will back him.

This is a pretty important wake-up call. (There are actually quite a few reports like this if one goes hunting for them. Many can be found in YouTube comments.)

Here's one such comment below Chris Martenson's latest update: (I cleaned up the poor spelling a little; the guy's language isn't English.) Of course, he may just not be used to being ill. But equally possibly, he could be in trouble.

This does NOT just affect elderly or infirm people. It can hit anyone at all.

    Hi, I have the coronavirus.

And just want to share my symptoms with everyone that thinks the virus does nothing to young people. Sorry for bad English, I'm going to do my best.

I'm 20 years of age. I was exposed to the virus 2-4 weeks ago. I'm very athletic, work out about 3-5 times a week. And have no health issues at all.

At the start I only had a fever, coughing a little slimy. And my head hurts. Then it transformed from coughing slime to just normal coughing, head hurts, my body is lazy went from being crazy. And just want to work out to wanting to stay home. Now I also have

    - difficulty breathing
    - body hurts
    - coughing
    - little headache
    - little fever

And I'm only 20. I feel my body is giving up. And I'm sure soon I'll end up in critical condition.

Just wanted to share this with the young people that don't care if they get the virus. This virus is serious. I also wasn't scared and thought it won't do anything to me until I got it. Please stay safe.

    Breathe deep the gathering gloom

My first post; my first potential novel coronavirus.

Sent my application in yesterday on my 70th birthday to join the Avalon forum. Same day had my first symptoms, out of nowhere. Most likely, if this turns out to be actual COVID and I have tests done, the vector was the county courthouse when I walked in less than a week ago to purchase license tabs for my car. Very sick employees in cramped spaces. I was appalled. Should have ran but it was too late. Otherwise I’ve been a shut-in for nearly the past year, so very little exposure. Attempting to raise awareness in this small community I live in is challenging.

We will see how things go from here.

It would be easy to pass off the irony of milestone birthday, acceptance into the Avalon community, and the onset of these symptoms all in one glorious day. And glorious it is/was. No sarcasm intended.

Irony, synchronicity - isn’t it strange that out of so many worlds and dimensions open for participation that this particular one we inhabit has as part of it’s substructure such an ephemeral phenomena? So many think they are in control when unrestrained control seems the antithesis of the kind of growth that’s intended to take place here. Yet exert a certain control we must, then either suffer or celebrate the consequences that follow. Either way, through pain or joy, we will learn. Best that choices are made with the understanding that pain and joy are intricately entwined. Neither is what they appear to be.

Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
    And which is an illusion?

Can’t get past the strong sense that I was groomed for this scenario that’s facing the world today. It’s energizing, uplifting, and reeking of raw inspiring challenge.

So when I use the eerie but familiar words breathe deep the gathering gloom they are not intended to incite fear or dread. Reverence is more inline with my thinking – reverence for the unique opportunities that present themselves is more in line with life paths traveled with awareness, empathy, and insatiable curiosity. I’m thinking more in terms of open acceptance, now that I have something tangible to center my attention on.

Symptoms are mild. Noticed lightheadedness, a bit dizzy washing dishes. Have to sit now and then to be certain I don’t fall. Pulse rate quite elevated even at rest. Temperature up two degrees above my advanced-age normal which is around 96 to 97. Tightness and minor aching across chest. No breathing problems. Mental acuity and concentration are definately impaired. Alternate chills and sweats. Sweating like a pig at this very moment (apologies to all you swine out there. Do you actually sweat?). Could just be the boring old flu. Testing is available here if necessary. All necessary preparations and treatments have been underway.

Off to the races, in more ways than one!

At 20 years old I wouldn’t have had the experience to embrace this sort of thing like I do now. Not saying anyone else should adopt my views.
