Guys I speak from personal experience, dont underestimate this, its real. I contracted the virus last week, and although I didnt require hospitalization, there was a two day period there where the virus aggressively attacked my lungs. I managed to fight it off, but my lungs are still sore. Hopefully, I won't have any permanent damage. Regardless of the fatality rate being 1%, 4% or whatever, you dont want to get this, no matter how healthy you are. The danger zone for me was quick, about 2 days, then it quickly decelerated, but it is nasty and more dangerous than any other bug ive gotten in the past. I am in my mid 40's but in better physical condition than most 20 year olds, and for a two day period, this virus put me on my ass. Take every precaution you can to not get it. If you smoke or are in a debilitated state of health, stay home. This is your life we are talking about.

Did you test positive for COVID-19? Or did you just assume you were positive based on symptoms?

In any case, I'm happy you recovered and hope you stay well....

Two different hospitals refused to test me because my case didn't require hospitalization and because I had no known contact with a previously diagnosed covid 19 patient. They examined me and gave me a prescription for azithromycin, said good luck and sent me on my way. I'm not upset over that because it was clear they are conserving tests as they are gonna need every test available to properly diagnose those who require hospitalization in the coming weeks. My area is now just on the edge of having cases exploding exponentially, and I work in a high-risk profession that elevated my chances of contracting the virus, but I am probably somewhat lucky to get it before the hospitals are overrun.

I was worried about this one coming down... and actually for the safety of the doctor. It was almost too authentic. And definitely not something the Ministry of Truth would want going viral.

They didn't want to test us either (last month) and just gave Flu panel and all were negative and sent home with inhaler and script for something called Pearl Pills (no one took them). What were your symptoms?

I am concerned about the economy but see this as a physical threat where people are not healthy and prepared. Lots of people are so sure this won't effect them.

We've a soap opera here in the UK called 'Coronation Street' and in keeping with the times we're in I'm going to start to block out some scenes for a new soap called Coronavirus Street.

Hey, I've got time on my hands - I'm socially distancing and self isolating and I gotta do something, right?

It'd be dead easy to script as well. it'd just be folks behind closed doors, arguing. No bar scenes unfortunately, but, just a couple arguing in scene X followed by, um, maybe one person arguing with themselves in a tenement block apartment at their reflection in a kettle, followed by scene X say a family arguing on the couch and fighting over the remote control (and a drone outside booming out instructions to "Stay at home; protect the NHS; save lives" )

So, with one or two newer twists, the same old fodder then. It should be a hit though. The original 'Coronation' version has run for 40 years

The following content is circulating in Chinese cyberspace.

Looks like China is finally in counterattack mode against relentless US efforts to blame it for the global COVID epidemic.

Key points:

• It is now virtually certain that COVID-19 was brought to Wuhan by American troops taking part in the city’s World Military Games last Oct. 18-27.

• The 300-stong US contingent stayed at the Wuhan Oriental Hotel. It is located a mere 300 meters from the Huanan Seafood Market, where China’s outbreak began (see map below).

• Five of the US troopers developed a fever on Oct. 25 and were taken to an infectious-diseases hospital for treatment.

• 42 employees of the Oriental Hotel were diagnosed with COVID-19, becoming the first cluster in Wuhan. At the time only 7 people from the market were thus diagnosed, though they were treated first. All 7 had contact with the 42 from the hotel. From this source, the virus spread to the rest of China.

• Back in the US, the American team had trained at a location near Fort Detrick, the military’s viral lab closed down in July for various deficiencies.

The big question now is whether the transmission was planned, or accidental. Chinese authorities are awaiting an explanation from US authorities.

A few days ago, Mike Pompeo phoned Yang Jiechi, Chinese state councillor in charge of foreign affairs. (Pompeo’s counterpart is Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Yang is Wang’s boss… but never mind. Whatever Pompeo wanted to talk about must have been urgent and important.)

It was. Pompeo wanted the Chinese not to publicize what they had found. Yang’s reply: We await your solemn explanation, especially about Patient Zero.

China’s leaders long suspected involvement of the US military in the Wuhan outbreak. They were determined to stop the disease before pursuing the Americans for an honest accounting.

I want to emphatically state before I post the following that I am not at all suggesting this is video is not genuine, nor do I disbelieve what this person is saying. Nor am I downplaying her warning.

That said, we need to also all consider we live in a world where reality is readily fabricated to suit whatever agenda serves reality, where Iraqi soldiers throw babies out of incubators, which consequently propagates wars that end up killing millions of innocent lives; it saddens me to report I've learned not to allow videos like this pull at my heart strings. And I apologize to all if it sounds callous, but regardless of the information in this video and its implication, we have to examine everything, especially when virtually everything is at stake in regard to our judgements. Is there any way to vet if this is a real ER real nurse from Novi, MI and/or if the information is accurate? Surely there must be some way to collaborate information like this. I'm not coming from a perspective of doubt or disbelief; I sincerely want to know. If so, this is really chilling testimony. (Novi, MI isn't even the epicenter...which makes this front-line testimony even more alarming).

It seems to me, as an observer and a critical thinker, there are competing narratives at play in the cyber world right now vying for control of the narrative. Given the stakes at both ends, this could turn to a vicious--even violent--information war. It doesn't take too much insight to glean we are amid an epic and historic battle to determine the very direction of humanity for potentially hundreds of years to come... Incorrect judgments on either end of this thing can be potentially dire...

To this end, I can only hope we humans will remain rational and calculated in our search for truth and quest for self-determination...

Chris, the fatality rate is merely lower than these:

• Argentine haemorrhagic fever (Junin virus)
• Andes virus infection (hantavirus)
• Bolivian haemorrhagic fever (Machupo virus)
• Avian influenza A H7N9 and H5N1
• Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF)
• Avian influenza A H5N6 and H7N7
• Ebola virus disease (EVD)
• Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)
• Lassa fever
• Monkeypox
• Lujo virus disease
• Nipah virus infection
• Marburg virus disease (MVD)
• Pneumonic plague (Yersinia pestis)
• Severe fever with thrombocytopaenia syndrome (SFTS)
• Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)

But the issue is the number of cases in the population. Covid-19 doesn't [quite] fit the formal definition of an HCID. But that doesn't mean it's trivial.

You don't wanna get this thing. Read bearcow's post above. His case would have been classed as 'mild', purely because he didn't have to be hospitalized. But he was in very good shape, and was still felled like a tree.

Take the US, as an easy example. (And this could absolutely happen.)

Say there'll be 100 million Americans infected, after a few months have passed. That's not impossible. (How many months is the issue. That's why the strategy is to slow it all down.)

Even with a low fatality rate of 1%, that's 1 million dead. And the healthcare system would collapse long before that, especially if that happened in a short space of time, rapidly raising that fatality rate — whatever it actually is. (Fatality rate for 'closed' cases worldwide currently stands at 15-16%. Not 1%. Think about that.)

I'd guess that if 100 million people are infected, then the fatalities could easily be 5-10 million. And while some of that is because of the chaotic situation in the US, Europe may not be that much better if it really gets hold there.

You see, Ebola, or Lassa Fever, is much more serious than Covid-19 — if you get it. But the chances of getting Covid-19 are WAY WAY WAY higher than ever bumping into those. So it's all about risk. The HCID definitions are actually very misleading, because it all depends what one means by 'dangerous'. If the definitions are changed very slightly, then it'd definitely be on that list.

David nails the shift from hiding it to selling it. Spot on. I've been using a different analogy that's not quite as good.

In my version it was about the predator big cats crouched down in the long grass around the watering hole, inching forward on their knuckes. UNTIL, it's time to switch from stealth to a flat out sprint chase.

It's up to us how that goes. We are supposed to run, but I remember a video Bill posted here once showing the entire herd facing off the lions and the lions looked pathetic and backed off.

Not what they expected at all.
