Default Re: Covid-19 (and flu!) Treatment and Prevention

Because I have too much inflammation, and inflammation can cause cytokine storms that can kill a person,
my first line of defense is to try and lower my inflammation. There are 4 things in the body which contribute
    to raising inflammation levels.
inflammatory cytokine, TNF (tumor necrosis factor)
    inflammatory cytokine, IL-1b
    inflammatory cytokine, IL-6
    protein complex transcription factor NF-kB

Here is my list of foods to eat to inhibit these four things.
    Alfalfa - Inhibits IL-1b, IL-6
    Ashwaganda - inhibits TNF, IL-1b,
    Astaxanthin - inhibits NF-kB
    Astragalus - inhibits TNF, IL-1b, NF-kB
    Basil - inhibits NF-kB
    Bay leaves - Inhibits IL-6
    Black pepper - Inhibits IL-6
    Blueberries - inhibits TNF, NF-kB, IL-6
    Bromelain - inhibits NF-kB
    Calcium - Inhibits IL-6
    Cashews - inhibit IL-6
    Cayenne - inhibits NF-kB
    Celery - inhibit NF-kB
    Cinnamon - inhibits TNF, IL-1b, IL-6, NF-kB
    Choline - Inhibits IL-6
    Chromium - inhibits NF-kB
    Clove - inhibits NF-kB
    CoQ10 - inhibits TNF,
Cruciferous vegetables, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage - inhibits TNF, IL-1b, NF-kB
    Cumin - inhibits NF-kB
    Dandelion - inhibits TNF,
    Fennel - inhibits NF-kB
    Feverfew - inhibits NF-kB
    Fish Oil - inhibits TNF, IL-1b, IL-6, NF-kB
    Flax - inhibit NF-kB
    Fo-Ti - inhibits NF-kB
Garlic - inhibits IL-6 Garlic (allicin): Garlic is a very effective antiviral. It is most
effective in its raw form and needs to be crushed. It must be consumed within 1
    hour of crushing.
    Ginger - Inhibits IL-1b, NF-kB
    Glusosamine - inhibits TNF,
    Glycine - inhibits TNF,
    Grape Seed Extract - inhibits IL-1b, NF-kB
Green Tea may be used as an alternative to the current anti-viral medications, Tamiflu
and Relenza. Green tea catechins act as effective antivirals. They decrease the
production of the cytokine TNF-a, inhibit neuraminidase and may have antiviral
activity equivalent to other antivirals including Tamiflu.
    Jasmine Tea - inhibits IL-1b, NF-kB
    Licorice - inhibits TNF, NF-kB
Listen to Music - Inhibits IL-6
    Magnesium - inhibits IL-6, NF-kB, NF-kB
    Milk Thistle/Silymarin - inhibits IL-1b, NF-kB
    MSM - inhibits IL-6
    NAC - inhibits NF-kB
    Oats - inhibit IL-6
    Olive Leaf - Inhibits IL-6, NF-kB
    Olives - inhibit NF-kB
    Olive Oil - inhibitors NG-kB, IL-6
    Oregano - Inhibits IL-6
    Raspberries - Inhibits IL-1b,
    Reishi Mushrooms 0 Inhibits IL-1b,
Resveratrol: has antiviral properties. Inhibits TNF. Inhibits IL-6. addition to inhibiting
neuraminidase, it also helps to block virus production in the body. Japanese
Knotwood Root (richest source), raisins and red grapes.
    Rhodiola - inhibits IL-1b,
    Rooibos Tea - inhibit NF-kB
    Rosemary - inhibits NF-kB
    Pomegranate - inhibit NF-kB
    Probiotics, Binfantis, S boulardii, L casei, L Salivarius - inhibit IL-6
Slippery Elm - inhibits TNF, IL-1b,
    Soy - inhibits TNF, NF-kB, IL-6
St. John’s Wort (Hypericum): is an effective antiviral. Hypericum, the active ingredient in St Johns Wort decreases the production of cytokine IL-6
    Tart Cherry - inhibits NF-kB
    Tomato powder - inhibits NF-kB
    Quercitin -inhibits TNF, IL-6, NF-kB
    Vitamin B12 - Inhibits IL-6
Vitamin C: Vitamin C boosts the immune system and acts as antiviral by blocking the enzyme neuraminadase. Viruses need neuraminadase to reproduce. There are
anecdotal stories of people that took large amounts of Vitamin C and lived
through the Spanish Flu pandemic. Vitamin C may also be effective by reducing
the body’s natural production of two cytokines, TNF-a and IL-6. Another study
also validated the effectiveness of taking Vitamin C when flu is suspected. In
this report, a group of 470 people took 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C every hour
for six hours in a row, and then took 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C 3 times a
day. They experienced an 85% decrease in flu symptoms.
    Vitamin D3 - Inhibits IL-6
Vitamin E: Vitamin E boosts the immune system and decreases the production of
cytokine TNF-a.) Inhibits IL-6. Vitamin E is very beneficial for people and pets
with compromised immune systems, especially in older individuals. The
beneficial effects of Vitamin E are enhanced further when it is taken along with
    Vitamin C.
    Zinc - Inhibits IL-1b, IL-6, NF-kB

And these are the things I will AVOID completely, since they activate or promote the 4 inflammatory processes.

AVOID - may contribute to cytokine storm
Best to avoid the following foods/herbs. These increase production of the cytokines
(interleukin) IL-6 & (tumor necrosis factor a) TNF-a or both. These two particular
cytokines are responsible for inducing cytokine storms.
    ( I also added IL-1b and NF-kB)

Acrylamide - black olives, prunes, dried pears - increases IL-6

Cats Claw - increases levels of IL-1b

Chlorella and Spirulina - Increases production of cytokine TNF-a.

Chocolate, cocoa powder - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6.

Coffee - Increase TNF, increases IL-6

Echinacea - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6.

Elderberry extract or juice - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. Increases in these cytokines may trigger a lethal cytokine storm.

Goji Berries - Increase levels of IL-1b, activates NF-kB

Honey - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6.

Lactobacillus acidophilus- significantly induced the production of more IL-6, and TNF-á than any beneficial bacteria (probiotic) tested.

Lithium - increases levels of IL-1b, activates NF-kB

    Melatonin - increases levels of IL-1b, IL-6

    Yogurt

    Sugar/Glucose, High Glycemic index foods - Raises IL-1b and IL-6, activates NF-kB

    Sun/UV raises IL-1b and TNF

There was a really interesting caller to Infowars about half an hour ago. He cited research with mice, in which they were each given a drop of iodine on their noses, and then surrounded with the flu virus. None of the mice became infected.

The caller says that he now does the same: drops iodine in his nostrils whenever there's a risk of picking something up from others. He's never come down with a thing.
This information really was so interesting to me, that I had to read more about it. I found a most interesting pdf that covers a concept for fighting a pandemic with iodine - especially face masks refined with iodine as very effective protection. Also the mice experiment was mentioned and explained there.

Today I went into a pharmacy here to find out that classic iodine tincture, as I know it from childhood days, was banned within the EU since 2009. Shocking ...

In Romania is not banned,it was before, but not now.If you want I can send to you as much as you want. Pharmacists will be glad to sell also potassium permanganate and methylene blue.
    Prices:
    -iodine tincture conc. 2%: about 1 euro/40 grams;
    -potassium permanganate (crystals): 30 euro/kg;
    -methylene blue conc. 1%: 0,8 euro/25 grams.

I posted here my experiment of what Mr. Ryan heard on Infowars and you quote it.

My iodine tincture the price from the top of the box is in RON.

This is purely speculative, but I welcome others' informed thoughts. There's a huge shortage of virus-filtering masks already. Of course, there are improvised poor substitutes, like other kinds of masks, and even bandanas. (And note: most medical authorities state that no kind of mask is really effective in preventing infection, and that their best use is to avoid infecting others.)

But if one puts iodine, or iodine solution, in a simple aerosol bottle, and sprays a regular painter's or chemical mask to saturate it, I bet that might help at least a tiny bit. In an extreme situation, that surely has to be better than nothing at all. I'm thinking aloud here, just brainstorming, and welcome informed opinion.

I think that's a great theory, Bill. Talking about improvised masks, I've also wondered about using a pure wool scarf as a mask. Wool is naturally antimicrobial, so I wonder if that would improve its effectiveness. And since the antimicrobial nature comes from the lanolin, and lanolin can be bought separately, maybe using some extra of that?

While none of these would be as good as having a good medical respiratory mask, maybe they could be helpful as an alternative.

I have seen a number of 5 days on a countertop but I'm not sure who exactly said it.
I have read so much in the last week, I can't find the source.
This being said, I'm due to take the plane in one week to Amsterdam.
I bought cotton gloves that I will dispose of in between hand washes.
I will also find a seat in the airport, swab the important parts with alcohol swipes and stay put in between flight.
I will certainly not sit in those airport restaurants.
Lastly I will meditate as much as I can which I feel is one part of the solution for my travels.
    Wish me luck!

I did some searching. Most medical authorities state that the survival time on surfaces is variable and unknown. But this is what I found on Accuweather. (!)
According to the 2010 study "Effects of Air Temperature and Relative Humidity on Coronavirus Survival and Surfaces," by Lisa M. Casanova, et al., air temperature and relative humidity both impact the survival of other coronavirus strains on stainless steel.

The study found that the infectious virus could survive longer at lower temperatures and inactivation, or the point where the virus can no longer affect people, occurred more rapidly around room temperatures or warmer environments. In the lower temperatures, the virus could survive on a stainless steel surface from 5 to 28 days at all humidity levels. It took longer for inactivation to occur with a low relative humidity, or a drier environment. In short, the coronaviruses typically survive longer and stay active longer at lower temperatures in a dry environment.

I had the same idea. Since there are very few masks in my area I went to Amazon to see what they have. They still have masks, including paper and cotton masks. A small spray bottle with iodine solution and washing the cotton mask between uses may be an answer if is isn't the optimal answer.

    Cotton mask

    Paper Mask

Purchasing some medical gloves while they still have them to wear while out and about.

As a last resort, carrying tissues to hold while you touch surfaces if hand sanitizer or gloves aren't available - and carrying the small spray bottle of iodine solution.

A cold vaporizer in the house with iodine or Oil of Oregano is another idea.

Wearing swim or other goggles to protect the eyes and training yourself not to touch them unless hands are disinfected.

Betadine is still available on Amazon. It will disinfect water and skin. (I don't know if it can be ingested.)

I can't find if chlorine kills the virus on surfaces or water etc. Has anyone been able to find that information?

    Thanks, Olam and Bill!

I was at Lowe's today, and the shelf for the N95 masks was wiped. However, I found some hanging on the pesticide aisle.

Also, there are air filters for your return air vents that will filter out viruses. Another DIY idea is to cut those to fit your face and use medical tape to seal and hold it in place.

ETA: Those filters are a good idea to have on hand in case someone gets sick in your house. You can also cut them to fit your air vents.

I was looking for the post about iodine to reply but couldn't find it...

    Quote Iodine: the Forgotten Weapon
    Against Influenza Viruses
    David Derry, MD, PhD

Abstract. After the 1918 Influenza Pandemic which killed an estimated 30 million people, governments
financed research on the Pandemic’s causes. Over 25 years, influenza viruses were isolated and methods
for killing them with various agents discovered. Iodine was the most effective agent for killing viruses,
especially influenza viruses. Aerosol iodine was found to kill viruses in sprayed mists, and solutions of
iodine were equally effective. In 1945, Burnet and Stone found that putting iodine on mice snouts prevented the mice from being infected with live influenza virus in mists. They suggested that impregnating
masks with iodine would help stop viral spread. They also recommended that medical personnel have
iodine-aerosol-treated rooms for examination and treatment of highly infected patients. Current methods
of dealing with influenza infection are isolation, hand washing, antiviral drugs, and vaccinations. All of
these methods can be improved by incorporating iodine into them. When impregnated with iodine, masks
become much more effective, and hand washing is more effect when done with mild iodine solutions.
Isolation techniques coupled with aerosol iodine would make them safer for patients, medical personnel,
and all persons working with the public. Public health authorities could organize the distribution of iodine
and at the same time educate the public in the effective use of iodine. Oral iodine might also boost body
defense mechanisms in the upper oral and respiratory mucus. Conclusion: Iodine incorporated into masks,
solutions, aerosols, and oral preparations could help to kill influenza viruses

    My Coronavirus Fighting Protocol

    Alkalinize with Bicarbonate of Soda
Coronaviruses infect host cells by fusion with cellular membranes at
low pH. So keep your PH levels high.

Increase Oxygen in Body, lowers PH levels
The more alkaline you are, the more oxygen you can hold and keep.

    Detox
The less toxins the more oxygen the body can uptake efficiently.

Iodine can detox you. There’s no virus that can adapt to being in an iodine-rich
environment. Foods high in Iodine include, Seaweed, especially Kombu,
Wakame, Nori. Yogurt and Milk, Cottage cheese and eggs. Iodized Salt.

Flush the lymphatic system (detox) with Ginger
Ginger tea can also ease sore throat and coughing.

Support the Immune System with vitamins A and C
    Effective at preventing viral infections.

Stimulate Immune System with Selenium and Vitamin E together
Selenium and Vitamin E have synergistic effects

Stimulate Immune System with Vitamin D
Vitamin D also reduces length of flu/viruses by 70%.

Bolster Immune System with licorice root
triterpenoids in root, are extremely effective for viral immunity.

Boost Immune System’s T-cells with Astragalus
T-cells—are responsible for killing off virus-infected cells.

Stop eating or drinking all refined sugars
Refined sugar has been shown to negatively alter the functioning of the
white blood cells for hours after ingestion.

Block attachment of virus cells onto healthy cells with Olive Leaf
It’s main compound, oleuropein inhibits the spreading of viruses by not
allowing them to attach to healthy cells.

Block attachment of virus cells onto healthy cells with Lemon Balm
Lemon balm also reduces anxiety and depression

    IF one gets the Virus

Inhibit Virus Replication with Pau d’arco
contains quinoids that inhibit virus replication by damaging the DNA and RNA inside the viral
protein that would insert itself in a healthy human cell and replicate.

Inhibit Lung inflammation naturally with the following foods
Tomatoes - lycopene reduces inflammations in lungs and body
Olive Oil - contains vitamin E and helps lung function
Spinach, Kale, Leafy greens. Contain Vitamin E
Walnuts and Almonds - antioxidants that help fight off inflammation
Fatty Fish - sardines, tuna, salmon. Reduce inflammation
Fruits - Berries, Cherries, Oranges help lungs transfer oxygen
    Beets - reduce inflammation

Boost steroid levels to reduce inflammation and mucus production
(cholesterol, oestrogen, cortisol, testosterone, androstenone, androstenol)
Celery -high in androstenone and androstenol
Egg Yolks - high in cholesterol
Quinoa, java beans, avocados and coconut oil - boost testosterone

Do Not Use Fever Reducing Drugs
    ibuprofen, aspirin, paracetamol, acetaminophen
Fever is part of the body's immune response to infection
fever suppression causes at least 1% more influenza deaths in the United
States, or 700 extra deaths per year

Prevent blood clots because of lying still
Move around as much as possible, especially legs.
    Drink Tonka Beans tea
    Maintain Hydration

Do Not Lie on your back
    Sit up
Incline your bed up with risers at head of the bed. 2 to 8 inches higher.
or use many pillows to prop yourself higher.

They are reporting from treating coronavirus patients, that the only effective treatments so far
are IV drips, Hormonal injections, and the HIV Drugs lopinavir and ritonavir.

    Glutathione Against the Coronavirus
    Published on February 3, 2020
    Dr. Sircus
    https://drsircus.com/general/glutath...e-coronavirus/

"Before we get into our main topic today on glutathione first some good news: A 35-year-old Seattle-area man identified as the nation’s first person with coronavirus developed pneumonia while in the hospital but has improved after getting antiviral medication, according to a report published last Friday in the New England Journal of Medicine. This is the first indication we have that the coronavirus is treatable.

Thailand’s Health Ministry announced Sunday that a 71-year-old Chinese woman who was infected with the 2019-nCoV coronavirus has exhibited a dramatic improvement just 48 hours after being treated with a cocktail of antiviral medications used for influenza and HIV.

Fortunately for us there are many anti-viral medications. However, the best ones are not the ones they are going to push because they have side-effects that can be threatening, to say the least. The best happen to be natural medicines used in ICU departments, like bicarbonate, iodine, selenium, magnesium chloride and as we shall see today, glutathione. All of these substances strengthen the body and do not have nasty side-effects.

The coronavirus is spreading rapidly and at this point we all have to tune into what is happening. The CDC has issued a quarantine, first time in over in 50 years. And seems like half of China has been shutdown over the virus. As of Saturday afternoon, at least 21 provinces, municipalities and other regions in China have told businesses not to resume work before Feb. 10, at the earliest. The northern city of Tianjin, home to some 15 million, suspended all schools and businesses until further notice.

There is not one sign that this will not develop into a pandemic that will crush everyday life, if not from the virus itself then with the health authorities closing down cities and even locking people in their own homes. Travel and economic activity is quickly grinding to a halt in China and that could be the model we will see in the coming weeks all over the globe. Time will tell.

Nobody knows the endgame to this viral outbreak yet. It is still the early days of the epidemic, and its dynamics will take time to fully understand. The scale of the impact will depend on how contagious and lethal it reveals itself and that should become clearer in the next two to four weeks.

National Institutes of Health’s infectious disease chief, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said, “The mortality rate looks like 2% to 3% but could be much lower if many mild cases or infections with no symptoms are going undetected.” SARS proved fatal in about 10% of cases. The flu’s mortality rate is only 0.1%, yet it kills hundreds of thousands around the world each year (if you trust official statistics) because it infects millions.
Only the Chinese will be able to build 1,000 bed hospitals in a week so expect health systems around the world to collapse under the weight of mass infections in worst case scenarios.

Few will avail themselves in advance of the knowledge that can save them from death or avoid the coronavirus infection altogether. The smart ones will begin treatment in their homes long before panic sets in in one’s town or city. If one is not prepared to take care of themselves in such epidemics one could run into substantial trouble.

On the front lines of defense are magnesium, bicarbonate, iodine and selenium, as well as Vitamins A, D and C. Another principle nutritional agent that can be applied intravenously, if one is already suffering the worst, is glutathione.

Importantly glutathione can be Nebulized directly into the lungs with bicarbonate for an excellent treatment when the lungs become inflamed. This can be important for ICU and emergency room doctors as well as patients at home who are suffering with the flu that is affecting the lungs.

    Glutathione a Tiger Against Viruses

Glutathione is the most important cellular defense that allows the body to prevent and fight infections and disease. Gutathione plays crucial roles in the immune response, DNA repair, and the detoxification process that neutralizes drugs, chemicals, radiation, metabolic wastes, beats down viruses, bacteria and reduces toxins and carcinogens that are increasingly present in our environment.

The immune system cannot function properly without plentiful glutathione and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E rely on it to function properly within the body. Glutathione (GSH) and the GSH-replenishing enzymes keep the antioxidant status of normal cells at a level where they can avert oxyradical-derived mutations. When we talk about sulfur pathways and sulfur sufficiency we are at the same time touching on glutathione because glutathione is a sulfur enzyme.[1]

Glutathione is manufactured by every one of our trillions of cells, and the level of glutathione in our cells is predictive of how long we will live. Without the cleaning and chelating work of Glutathione (magnesium and sulphates needed) cells begin to decay as cellular filth and heavy metals accumulate – excellent environments to attract deadly infections. Without sufficient GSH, the body accumulates toxins and acid residues, degenerates rapidly, ages prematurely and dies more easily from viral and bacterial infections.

Low glutathione levels, low cg syndrome or low GSH levels are associated with over 74 diseases or conditions and is a major biological player when it comes to dealing with viral infections. Supplemental GSH has been studied extensively and seen to inhibit viral production indicating and has been seen to be valuable in the prevention and treatment of other hemorrhagic viral infections like dengue.[2]

Over 98,000 scientific studies and articles on Glutathione are recorded in PubMed, the official U.S. Government library of medical research. Those articles reveal the remarkable role glutathione plays in the protection and function of every cell in the human body and the support of optimal health and function. They also show the terrible consequences of low glutathione levels, and how those lower levels accelerate the aging process.

Gluathione is a sulfur based enzyme and can float up to anything and attach itself to it. It is like sticky flypaper, whatever GSH attaches itself to cannot escape and is removed from the body. GSH is our body’s natural scavenger, knows what is normal and belongs and what does not. Obviously, anything that is not normal like bacteria, viruses and fungi will be quickly removed if there is enough GSH present to do the job.

In another major active defensive pathway, glutathione makes sure that all components of the immune system are strong and operating efficiently. Without the interaction of GSH with the immune system it remains weak and unbalanced thus leaving patients with infections, vulnerable to death. It does not matter if a virus or bacteria has mutated or not, it will be recognized by GSH and removed. GSH is a basic first line of defense and should be used for all life threatening infections. Bottom line when fighting nasty infections—without sufficient GSH you will die but you will not see it listed by the authorities as a treatment for the coronavirus.

The first step in anti-viral or bacterial medicine is to build the strength of the immune system. Our immune cells are designed to protect us, but what protects the immune cell? Glutathione is the protector of the immune cell and allows newly formed immune cells to proliferate to attack germs and viruses. Glutathione feeds, protects, and strengthens our immune system.

Glutathione boosts white blood cell production to fight infection, particularly the T-cells, which are called lymphocytes. T-cells are at the core of our immunity, and tailor the body’s immune response to pathogens, viral and bacterial infections or anything the cells recognize as being invasive. Studies have shown that Glutathione is food for the immune cells, boosting the strength of lymphocytes. B-cell lymphocytes identify the unwanted pathogen that the T-cells then attack.

GSH protects us from viruses, such as the herpes virus, flu viruses, and probably from Ebola as well. Our white blood cells are cells help fight off viruses. They need an abundant supply of glutathione to be able to effectively protect us from invading micro-organisms and viruses. Inhibition of cellular respiration, oxidation of glutathione and induction of apoptosis have been reported in epithelial cells infected in vitro with influenza A virus (IAV).[3]

Extracellular human immunodeficiency virus type 1 viral protein R causes reductions in astrocytic ATP and glutathione levels compromising the antioxidant reservoir.[4] Reduced and oxidized glutathione levels were determined in liver biopsy specimens obtained from patients with chronic liver disease including chronic active hepatitis and cirrhosis. In patients with hepatitis B virus infections, GSH and GSH/GSSG levels were significantly low compared with those in controls.[5]

This is the strongest Glutathione 1.5 (1,500mg reduced glutathione) available on the market. The product I have been recommending for years is less expensive but offers much less glutathione per dose. Ingesting Glutathione does not raise Glutathione levels since it is poorly absorbed through the digestive system. The fragile tripeptide (3-amino acid) structure of Glutathione makes surviving the digestive tract a near impossibility. This is why using the above suppositories brings excellent results as do glutathione IVs.

Health care providers give glutathione by injection into the muscle for preventing poisonous side effects of cancer treatment (chemotherapy) and for treating the inability to father a child (male infertility). IV glutathione is used to treat diseases related to the brain (Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, MS), liver (alcoholism) or help those with suppressed immunity (HIV or patients undergoing some chemotherapies like cisplatin). When it’s administered by a medical doctor who has a total picture of your health and body chemistry it is safe. When administered by one’s self at home via suppositories it is even safer. Many people on IV glutathione go once or twice a week and at upward of $900 each administration so one can see how cost effective suppositories are.

Healthcare providers also give glutathione intravenously for preventing “tired blood” (anemia) in kidney patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, preventing kidney problems after heart bypass surgery, treating Parkinson’s disease, improving blood flow and decreasing clotting in individuals with “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), treating diabetes, and preventing toxic side effects of chemotherapy.

Glutathione can be nebulized for treating lung diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and lung disease in people with HIV disease.

Dr. Julian Whitaker writes, “Alpha lipoic acid also ramps up glutathione synthesis and significantly enhances detoxification, and we use it at the clinic, along with selenium and silymarin, to treat hepatitis and other liver diseases. Recent research suggests that the “sleep hormone” melatonin boosts glutathione status too, by stimulating production of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase. We’ve had particularly good success treating patients who are recovering from strokes and those with hepatitis, neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, and other chronic illnesses—conditions associated with dramatic increases in oxidative stress and depletions in glutathione. IV glutathione isn’t a slam-dunk, and it’s always used in conjunction with hyperbaric oxygen and other therapies, but we’ve seen remarkable improvements, particularly in patients who’d been told that nothing else could be done.”

    Nutritional Status and Viral Disease

The association between viral disease and nutrition has long been thought to be due to effects on the host immune system.[6] This theory suggests that when a host is malnourished, the immune system is compromised, and thus increased susceptibility to viral infection will occur. However, the virus itself may also be affected by the nutritional status of the host. This is true for all viral infections and no less true for the coronavirus. It is one of the basic reasons that separate the survivors from the majority who perish. The difference between life and death can be measured in the severity of cellular stress.

When it comes to human papilloma virus or HPV, or any virus problem for that matter, it is crucial that you are getting adequate amounts of selenium in your diet or using a supplement. Glutathione requires selenium for its production. Selenium is a trace mineral that the body incorporates into proteins to make over 25 different selenoproteins including the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. Researchers working with the flu virus discovered that animals deficient in selenium were more susceptible to infectious diseases. Animals with a selenium deficiency, when contaminated with the flu virus, the flu virus mutated into a far more virulent form when it was passed on to the next animal. The AIDS infection rate is highest in those African countries with low levels of selenium in their soil.

The pre-cursors of glutathione synthesis are the amino acids glutamate, glycine and cysteine, with cysteine being the most important amino acid. As people age or experience disease, glutathione levels in the blood decrease, causing a reduction in this life-sustaining antioxidant. Dietary sources of glutathione are therefore necessary to replenish stores and avoid losses.

Magnesium deficiencies cause glutathione depletion and production of glutathione is also dependent on magnesium.[7] Glutathione synthetase requires-glutamyl cysteine, glycine, ATP, and magnesium ions to form glutathione.[8] According to Dr. Russell Blaylock, low magnesium is associated with dramatic increases in free radical generation as well as glutathione depletion and this is vital since glutathione is one of the few antioxidant molecules known to neutralize mercury.

Dr. Melinda Beck, a virologist at the University of North Carolina, and Dr. Orville Levander, a nutritional chemist at the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, described how a run-of-the-mill coxsackievirus mutated into the deadly, rapidly reproducing strain when an infected person or animal was deficient in selenium or vitamin E. When selenium is deficient, we can assume that glutathione levels will be lower."

This is a wonderful idea. I am thinking of a bit of a variation for extreme situations. What about taking one of those saline nasal sprayers you can buy and adding iodine to it? I am thinking along the lines of having cotton permeated in this solution in each nostril and keeping it moist with additions to it from the saline/iodine sprayer. If you combine the mask and the nasal technique I think you would have the nasal route of entry pretty much covered. Of course , this would be for extreme conditions. I purchased this "nose filters" because I couldn't find any masks and I think they might work really well permeated with the saline/iodine solution. I also like the idea of wool with the solution. Maybe wool yarn?

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My only question on this would be how much iodine in the bottle would be effective as I wouldn't want to overdo it? Does anybody have any ideas here on what might be a good ratio of saline to iodine? Can anyone see any drawback?

I am not trying to monger fear here. Like Bill said, it is a method on the back burner if needed. Preparation allows us to act confidently and reasonably where denial will breed panic and fear.

What type and brand of iodine is needed, I have checked on amazon, and there are several
different kinds and brands, I would like to order a good tried an true brand.
Here's one of the best, as best I know: (But NOT available on Amazon.com in the 5% solution... Amazon in the US only stocks the 2% solution.)
I take one drop per day in my morning coffee, and one bottle lasted me 18 months.

Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions. As usual this site often reminds me of healthy solutions and habits, along with all of the other vital reminders of living a balanced and healthy life.....

Was reminded of this recently by some friends:

One cup of apple cider vinegar in a warm bath for 20 to 30 minutes has helped dramatically relieve many of their flu symptoms.

Drinking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water daily helps digestion and healthy digestion is an important factor in the strength of a healthy immune system.
