The irony that this Tech Firm is called Shadow. They're not even trying to hide it anymore.

A Democratic caucus in Dubuque, Iowa.

An app created by a tech firm run by veterans of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign is taking heat for the unprecedented delay in reporting Democratic caucus results from Iowa.

Results from Monday’s caucuses could not be transmitted to Iowa party headquarters, and state Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price blamed the problem on a coding error. “While our plan is to release results as soon as possible today, our ultimate goal is to ensure that the integrity and accuracy of the process continues to be upheld,” he said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Confusion among caucus organizers over how to use the app also seemed to contribute to the problem.

The firm behind the app reportedly is Shadow, an affiliate of ACRONYM, a Democratic nonprofit founded in 2017 “to educate, inspire, register, and mobilize voters,” according to its website. Shadow started out as Groundbase, a tech developer co-founded by Gerard Niemira and Krista Davis, who worked for the tech team on Clinton’s campaign for the 2016 Democratic nomination.

Niemira had previously worked at kiva.org, a nonprofit that makes loans to entrepreneurs and others in the developing world, and Davis had spent eight years as an engineer at Google. ACRONYM’s founder and CEO is Tara McGowan, a former journalist and digital producer with President Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign.
Designed to modernize a system that relied on precinct chairs phoning in their results, Shadow’s caucus app was seen as “a potential target for early election interference,” according to the Des Moines Register.

    Instead, a different problem arose.

“We found inconsistencies in the reporting of three sets of results. In addition to the tech systems being used to tabulate results, we are also using photos of results and a paper trail to validate that all results match and ensure that we have confidence and accuracy in the numbers we report,” Iowa Democratic Party communications director Mandy McClure said in a written statement released late Monday night.

“This is simply a reporting issue, the app did not go down and this is not a hack or an intrusion. The underlying data and paper trail is sound and will simply take time to further report the results.”

Shadow did not immediately reply to an email seeking comment.
ACRONYM acquired Shadow in January 2019 to function as its tech-development arm. “When a light is shining, Shadows are a constant companion,” its website says. “We see ourselves as building a long-term, side-by-side ‘Shadow’ of tech infrastructure to the Democratic Party and the progressive community at large.”

In a statement late Monday night, ACRONYM distanced itself from Shadow, saying it was not a tech provider and did not have any information about what went wrong in Iowa.

In an interview with NPR in January, Troy Price, chairman of the Iowa state Democratic Party, declined to say whether it had been tested for vulnerabilities by any independent experts, suggesting the secrecy around it helped to keep it secure from cyberattacks. The state party subsequently told the Des Moines Register it had been independently tested.

The state Democratic parties of Iowa and Nevada each paid around $60,000 to Shadow, according to Federal Election Commission disclosures. Nevada’s Democratic caucuses are set for Feb. 22.

Back in Iowa, Dallas County Democratic Party Chair Bryce Smith told The Times that the app left many precincts unable to report their results digitally, which left the state party overwhelmed.
“I have people who have been on hold for 20, 30, 40 minutes” with the state party, Smith said.

The long hold times could have been due to other caucus organizers using the phone as their primary means to communicate the results.

“A lot of people didn’t even load the app because it’s such a pain,” said John Grennan, co-chairman of Iowa’s Poweshiek County Democratic Party.

There were signs of trouble with the app even before Monday night. Opportunities to train on the app in advance of caucus night did not bode well, Grennan said.
“They had all these issues,” he said. “We were supposed to be getting invitations to use it. The invites would never arrive.” The communications he did receive were confusing, he said.

When the big night came, Grennan, who was running the caucus site at Grinnell College, said the app appeared to be working as he input results, but he couldn’t tell with certainty.

“I kept getting kicked off,” Grennan said, adding that the app would reset if stopped part-way through. He decided to call the party’s hotline with a question, but after nearly half an hour on hold, he gave up. “I’m 90% sure it went through [on the app.] I’ll have to work under the assumption that if it’s not there, they’re going to call me.”

Among Shadow’s clients is Pete Buttegieg’s presidential campaign, which paid $42,500 to the firm in July 2019 for “software rights and subscriptions,” according to disclosures to the FEC. A spokesman for the campaign says the payment was for a service used to send text messages to voters. The campaigns of Joe Biden and Kirsten Gillibrand, who withdrew from the race last year, also made smaller payments to Shadow.

Joe Biden 'most likely had a shocker' in Iowa Caucuses

Sky News host Paul Murray says the Democratic candidates who are “competing for the chance to lose to Donald Trump,” and to show they are the “new Obama [and] the next Hillary” will have to wait a little bit longer. Nine hours since the polls closed in the Iowa Caucuses, still no results have been declared as the state party administration struggles to count “a grand total of less than 200,000 votes”. Mr Murray said although there are no official numbers available, it is “most likely Joe Biden had a shocker,” and Mayor Pete Buttigieg may appear as the “establishment lane candidate”.

WHY THE IOWA DELAY?: Ted Cruz gives his two cents

With nearly a year's worth of campaigning and weeks upon weeks dedicated in Iowa alone, of course, a quick resolution for the Iowa caucus was too much to ask for. Ted Cruz joined Glenn on radio Tuesday and was hoping to have the situation all wrapped up for his new podcast 'Verdict.' But that was too much to ask. There was no evidence of fraud but Cruz claims there is no reason it should be this complicated. Watch this clip to hear Glenn and Ted pick their way through the complicated mess in the first battleground state for 2020.

MIND BLOWING!!! MAYOR CHEAT AND HIS ASSOCIATIONS WITH DISASTER CAPITALISM
    https://forbiddenknowledgetv.net/may...er-capitalism/
From Alexandra Bruce at Forbidden Knowledge

"As I write this, the full accounting of the Democrat votes in Iowa Caucus is still incomplete, more than 48 hours after the vote, in a situation that is unprecedented in a primary election but highly emblematic of the criminality and disarray of the DNC.

After midnight, I was seeing Twitter posts with official Iowa Caucus paperwork, showing that over 30% of precincts were reporting “rounding errors”, 50% of which gave the extra delegate votes to Pete Buttigieg.

A new phone app designed for the event appears to have crashed the election. The producer of the app is a shady organization called Shadow Inc., which is owned by a SuperPAC called ACRONYM, founded by Tara McGowan, the wife of Pete Buttigieg’s senior campaign strategist, Michael Halle and staffed by several veterans of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

According to FEC records, ACRONYM’S largest single donor is billionaire hedge fund manager George Soros, who gave them $2.6 million.

At around the 18-minute mark in this video by YouAreFreeTV, she gets into Buttigieg’s early associations with disaster capitalism, while working for the large consultancy firm, McKinsey & Company. She says that McKinsey restructured the debt in Ukraine and then went in and did the same for Puerto Rico.

“We have massive, huge companies and huge hedge funds buying up debt bonds…the hope is that you buy ’em low and you get paid off high by [entities] like USAID, by all of the the government money coming in…

“So, that is what we’re looking at here behind Pete Buttigieg and also behind Amy Klobuchar.

“I’ve told you how she’s a huge McCainite…obviously, super-connected with everything that happened with Ukraine; that this is the background of what these people are doing.”

Clinton & Buttigieg used same (CIA?) playbook in Iowa
    By Daniel Hopsicker - February 4, 2020
    https://www.madcowprod.com/2020/02/0...playbook-iowa/

The similarities between what happened in the Iowa Caucuses last night and what happened back in 2016 during that razor-thin contest are too strong to be coincidence.

    They’re uncanny. Spooky, even. Consider:

Last night, based on no facts and zero precincts reporting, Pete Buttigieg, who hadn’t won anything, nonetheless gave a victory speech while people were still awake.

Four years ago Hillary Clinton’s campaign did the same thing. While every major network and news outlet was still reporting that the race was too close to call, her campaign declared victory by 9:30 p.m. Monday night.

Leaving no hint that Iowa was anything but a victory, the AP reported the former secretary of State told supporters she was “so proud I am coming to New Hampshire after winning Iowa!”

Is this why the Iowa Poll went missing?

Then, two nights ago the much-anticipated Iowa poll results were suppressed without reason or warning. That might have been to spare everyone further embarrassment.

Four years ago, the big Des Moines Register Iowa Poll did make it into print. Some may wish it didn’t. It was wildly, drunkenly, inaccurate.

It showed 56 percent of likely Democratic caucus participants favoring Clinton as their first choice for president. Just 5 percent favored Sanders.

Yet thirty-six hours later the race was still too close to call.

Was it just bad judgment? Or something worse?

It wasn’t until seventeen hours after Iowa’s Democratic caucuses began that The Associated Press officially called Hillary Clinton the winner by a razor-thin margin over challenger Bernie Sanders, 49.8 percent of state delegate equivalents to Sanders ‘49.6.

She had already taken a victory lap (or two) by then.

Then, of course, there is the whole business of Buttigrieg’s funding of the failed app. The whole business about why the Iowa Democratic party insisted the app be kept secret.

We refuse to demean ourselves by repeating the sordid details.

Hot rumor: During the caucus tally four years ago, the Iowa Democratic Party used an unnamed smartapp supposedly similar to the one which prevented tallying ballots Monday night.

    The secret Shadow app business
