Russian astronomers have detected an Extraterrestrial signal deep in space. Today, we take a look at what these Russian astronomers discovered deep in space. The universe is a truly massive place. Going back in 2015, Russian astronomers discovered a mysterious signal coming from a star system. This system is only 94 light-years away from our planet. The HD 164595 star system has been described as being a possible candidate for intelligent inhabitants". This excited many people as every year we pick up on mysterious signals in the cosmos. What's interesting about this one though is that it's so close to our planet.

Astronomer Yulia Sotnikova published in August 31, 2016 – by the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences:

Subsequent processing and analysis of the signal revealed its most probable terrestrial origin. It can be said with confidence that no sought-for signal has been detected yet. Astronomers are convinced the signal was from a military satellite.

Later analysis by Seth Soshak and his team of the SETI Institute confirmed that the signal was finally identified as being from a Russian military satellite.

Because the receivers used were making broad band measurements, there’s really nothing about this “signal” that would distinguish it from a natural radio transient (stellar flare, active galactic nucleus, microlensing of a background source, etc.) There’s also nothing that could distinguish it from a satellite passing through the telescope field of view.
