    Default Leunig

    Leunig.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Leunig

He is one of Australia's most insightful, astute and I'd say, aware, cartoonists and social commentators.

He rarely misses the mark and does so usually with gentleness and compassion.
He's possibly one of Australia's greatest cartoonists, a living treasure.

A remastered audio recording of John Clarke (Michael Leunig's tribute poem to him is
    above) and Bryan Dawe.

John Clarke was a much loved Australian identity and satirist, passed several years ago.

My favourite Leunig cartoon (I've shared this before on Avalon somewhere!)

Oh thank you Bodhicee..........Leunig is medicine in a spiteful world. Two weeks ago when I was feeling numbed by the problems of the world, I took my big book of Leunig to bed with me and laughed myself silly. I woke up refreshed with a slaved heart. I was so appalled at the way my country's media slashed him unmercifully last year, after adoring him most of his career. The dreaded baby falls out of the pram/mother more in love with her mobile phone cartoon. Key points from the abc:

"The cartoonist said he was 'engulfed in free-floating hate' after his drawing was published

His cartoon depicted a mother ignoring her baby while looking at her phone, which some criticized as being unfair to mothers and misogynistic

Leunig denied this, saying the work came from a "special interest" in infant development." Infants need eye-contact, was the essence of it. Well, we all need eye contact. And especially during this world idiocy of the virus, we need to look into the faces of strangers and remind ourselves of our humanity. I can't work out how to insert the picture, but you can see it here.

Meryl, yes I remember that.... lol.

He was SPOT ON and was therefore immensely hated for it by the idealogues of all types; they came out of many different cracks! From all over!

He touched a BIG nerve, for sure lol, which i take to be an unequivocal sign of a UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH BEING TOLD ....
I don't for a moment/didn't believe that he was being malicious.
He was championing the CHILD and all that GUILT came pouring out.
I understand his health is not the greatest (-?). I hope he weathered the attacks unscathed.
I'm grateful he raised the point. Everyone sees it happening EVERYWHERE, and what? it can't be mentioned?? pfft.

Great laughs, thanks. I love Leunig. When I used to get depressed by life I would pull out a couple of his books of cartoons, my favourite being one called "Ramming the Shears", which hhas a takeoff of a famous Australian painting called Shearing the Rams. In the Leunig version, there is a ram with a gleeful look, about to shove a pair of shears up a shearer's bum. I laugh just thinking about it.

Hi Violet! I remember that one! It was really wicked!!

This is the painting, considered a masterpiece, by Tom Roberts, Impressionist, who only just happens to be one of Australia's most revered painters..(!):
