This article serves as a related one and could best be described as "Potential turmoil on the India and China Border."

This appears to be either a game of brinkmanship or a scenario with enormous potential for turmoil. A development here that may be worth keeping a close eye on.

India Deploys Domestically-Produced Armed Helicopters to Contested Ladakh on Chinese Border

    August 12th, 2020

    by Rishikesh Kumar

New Delhi (Sputnik): India has deployed fighter jets, transport aircraft, and thousands of additional troops to the Ladakh region to counter movement by the People's Liberation Army. The two Asian giants have failed to reach a consensus on disengagement in Pangong Tso and Depsang Valley after six rounds of military-level talks.

Boosting its air combat capability in the Ladakh region, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed locally-developed armed helicopters carrying 70mm guns, unguided rockets, cluster bombs, and other weaponry.
"In light of the prevailing situation on the border, two Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) have been deployed for operations at high altitude (Leh sector) at short notice to support IAF missions", the developer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said on Wednesday.
The 5.5-tonne class LCH is capable of carrying four French-made Mistral air-to-air missiles on each wing that can intercept a target at a range of up to 6.5 kilometres.

HAL mentioned that the helicopter is operating in a high altitude location in a forward area, demonstrating its quick deployment prowess in extreme temperatures.

Terming it "the lightest attack helicopter in the world", HAL chief R Madhavan underscored that it meets the specific and unique requirements of the Indian Armed Forces. The twin-engine LCH is not only lighter than the American AH-64E Apache attack helicopter but also comes at half the price, i.e. less than $35 million per unit.

The Indian Air Force has already deployed its Chinook and Apache attack helicopters to the region.

    Status of India-China Border Conflict
The sixth round of commander-level talks between India and China on 9 August failed to make progress over sticking points such as the withdrawal of Chinese troops from the Depsang Valley and Pangong Tso region along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), government sources in New Delhi told Sputnik.

The sources added that in the coming days joint secretary-level talks could be held to diffuse the situation, which has been tense since April 2020 when the two sides accused each other of transgressing the perceived border in the Ladakh region.

In a violent clash on 15 June, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the Galwan Valley.
Despite foreign minister-level talks and six rounds of military-level consultations, the two countries continue to build up their military strength in case of a possible limited war-like situation in the Ladakh region.

"Xi Jinping, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party, allegedly sent a veiled message in a recent manifesto suggesting he intends to be leader for life. This was included in a statement on the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, which will be held in Beijing in October. The announcement was carried by the CCP mouthpiece news outlet, Xinhua.

It stated that attendees will assess the proposals for the next five year plan, which goes until 2025, and stated they’ll also assess “future targets for 2035.” Nikkei noted that many China watchers took the note about 2035 as a secret code suggesting that Xi intends to stay in power at least for the next 15 years, when he turns 82 -- the same age that Mao Zedong died at. Xi previously did away with term limits.

And as the US moves forward to ban the app, the Wall Street Journal has recently discovered that TikTok had been using methods banned by Google, to bypass security safeguards in the Android operating system to collect unique information from millions of mobile devices. It said this data would allow TikTok to track users online without users being able to opt out."

" Flooding as a result of heavy rainfall in Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces caused the Yangtze River to overflow in recent days, inundating cities in China’s western regions.

The Yangtze’s water level in Chongqing city may exceed the safety level on Aug. 19, which means an embankment breach could happen at any time, according to state-run broadcaster CCTV, which cited officials.

China’s cabinet-like State Council said at a press conference on Aug. 13 that rainfall in areas along the Yangtze and Huai rivers have reached their highest levels since 1961.
Rainfall has begun to move north to the areas where the Yellow, Hai, Songhua, and Liao rivers lie. The Yellow River has experienced flooding since Aug. 11, but authorities have kept mum about its impact.

The Yangtze River Committee of China’s Water Resources Ministry announced on Aug. 16 that a new flood peak formed in the Jialing River, a main Yangtze tributary, and entered the Yangtze near Chongqing, a sprawling city with more than 30 million residents.

The peak of the Jialing river flooding is expected to trigger another flood peak in the Yangtze on Aug. 19, according to the committee.

The upper-stream area of the Yangtze River is also under threat from heavy rain, Chongqing authorities said on Aug. 16. Flooding from the Jialing River and the Yangtze’s upper stream may cause the latter’s water level to top its safety limit on Aug. 19."

"After the Fourth wave of flood in the Yangtze River passed through the Three Gorges Dam on August 15th, the Hydrological Bureau of the Yangtze River Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources of China stated on the 17th that the Fifth flood of the Yangtze River of 2020 has formed upstream of the Yangtze River.
The flood water level on aug 19, will exceed Chongqing Cuntan Hydrology Station’s guaranteed water level by 3 to 4 meters. The Three Gorges reservoir will reportedly see its biggest flood peak since its construction, with the incoming flow reaching 74,000 cubic meters per second on Aug. 20.
There was 1 and a half meter deep standing water near some communities, and a video on the Internet showed that a take-out delivery staff had to "swim" to deliver food. But when they reached downstairs of the building, because the customers lived on the 26th floor and the elevator was broken, they were unwilling to go downstairs to pick up the food. As a result, the delivery staff had to cancel the order and couldn't even earn 6 RMB for the delivery fee.
According to official documents, the Three Gorges Dam has 77 discharge gates, 67 holes laid along 3 layers. From the top down, they are called in order as “spill gates”, “deep discharge gates” and “conduit gates”.
This year, the Yangtze River flooding is very serious, and the amount of water flow is still greatly increasing. According to official media reports, since June 21, the Three Gorges Power Station 34 units are all generating power, with a daily power generation capacity of nearly 400 million kilowatt-hours. Shareholders of China Yangtze River Power Co. have made a huge profit, but the people who suffered because of these disasters, had lost everything, some including their lives. "

Poignant perspective from a native on the contrast between China before the current flooding and now, with #5 flood.

"Latest News: Filmed on 22nd August 2020 Hongya Cave, Chongqing China.

The Three Gorges Dam has seen the largest flood peak since the construction of the reservoir, reaching 75,000 cubic meters per second, exceeding the largest inflow in history.

On 20 August, the Cuntan Hydrological Station in Chongqing rose over the high of 191.41 metres (628.0 ft), which was set in 1981. Downtown streets, houses, parks, and wharves, were inundated.

In all, 219 people have died or are missing in this year’s floods, and more than 65 million residents have been affected so far.

Thousands of residents in Chongqing in China’s southwest have been evacuated and riverside shops and scenic spots closed, as the megacity braces for its biggest flood in 40 years.

For the first time, authorities have issued a level-one flood emergency response, the highest alert in a four-tier scale.

The flood, the fifth on the Yangtze River this year, hit the city on Thursday and arrived at the same time as the second wave from the Jialing River – a tributary that joins the Yangtze in Chongqing – passed through.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Chongqing on Thursday morning to assess conditions, visiting the village of Shuangba in Tongnan district, where flooded fields and houses have affected the livelihood of more than 8,000 people there.

The first floor of Chongqing Hongya Cave (Hongyadong) Scenic Area was completely flooded for the first time in history.

Hongya Cave (Hongyadong) has a history of over 2,300 years. It built alongside a steep cliff on the bank of Jialing River. It has become the most popular destination for visitors - You can see Chinese ethnic culture, a lovely view over the Jialing river, the sell large number of taste delicious food. The stunning night view is a highlight and should not be missed.

Not to be missed! This explains very clearly just how and why the 3 Gorges Dam may be in danger of collapse.
