She needs to take some time, and meditate on the sage advice "Butthead" would give to "Beavis":

As a person whose name is Karen, I find this all very insulting!
Maybe plants are actually farming us; giving us oxygen until we decompose and they consume us.

Well Karen, I can't help you with this cultural phenomena, but I can help you with this conversation about it if you really find it that offensive.

Would you like me to shut it down?

This might make you feel a little better :
The name Karen is a girl's name of Danish origin meaning "pure".

Karen is a Danish diminutive of Katherine, an English name derived from the Greek Aikaterine. The etymology of Aikaterine is contested, but generally considered to have arisen from the Greek root katharos, meaning “pure.” Kaja is a related name, as it is another Danish variation of Katherine.

Karen, a sweet good-girl Danish import, was so popular during the baby boom (Karen was Number 3 in 1960) that it's locked firmly into fashion limbo today.

It is unfortunate that a perfectly nice name like Karen has been stigmatized by this phenomenon. But lest we forget, it isn't just Karens, it's Darrens too. And there's plenty of those out there.

It is. And likely the name will go way down in popularity as far as new baby names. I used to know quite a few guys called Dick in the past. It seemed quite popular in the WWII generation. The few I know named that now are 80+.

I read somewhere that one man named Dick was having a real problem posting and signing his name online, as he kept being kicked by auto-bans.

There are likely other names that happened to in history. Maybe Prudence?

I thought this was interesting concerning other similar memes. Example:

Quote You know Sharon, right? Yes, that one (in fact, all ones). Well, she’s here, in your office, ready to annoy you. Along with Susan and Sandra she’s the most annoying colleague a person could have, but it’s Felicia you really wish would go away. Jan is a liar. Chad is an alpha male. Harold is too old to understand anything, and there’s only one word to describe Janet. “Whatever”.

    Here's a couple others:

Quote Slang. an object of derision, scorn, manipulation, or the like: He was an easy mark for criticism. the intended victim of a swindler, hustler, or the like: The cardsharps picked their marks from among the tourists on the cruise ship.
Quote Fred is a derisive term used by “serious” road cyclists to describe other cyclists who do not conform to serious road cyclists' norms with regard to dress and equipment, and appear amateurish to them. ... These Freds are not generally total novice cyclists, and often ride fairly frequently.
Quote Average Joe. Plain Jane. Safety Sally. A prostitute's client is known as a John.
Quote In popular culture. In reference to Fredo Corleone being the weaker and less intelligent of his brothers, the term "Fredo" has come to refer to a weak member of a group, especially one of a number of siblings in a family, regardless of ethnicity.
CNN anchorman Chris Cuome, nearly threw a man down a flight of stairs over the use of this term:
