Thanks Jake for offering this! I'm very interested, but just have a logistical question about waking up at 3am.

Since the scamdemic started I've been working in a different job in my workplace, I do a block of three evening shifts that finish at midnight so I get home 20 minutes later. I'm wide awake still and don't have lights out before 1.30. I'm naturally an early riser so this has messed up my sleeping pattern. So... if this practice would be every night, on work nights I'd only get about an hour's sleep before waking up again.

Would this have to be every night of the week or could I be excused class after my shifts?
3am is the magical hour, supposedly... The reason that I chose that hour has more to do with biology, and the sleep cycle. Once the body has a couple of journeys from alpha sleep through to theta, and back again, (basically going to sleep and waking up again) then your practice will be much more smooth and natural. Your body is ready to become fully relaxed and your mind can be more easily trained to stay still and awake. During regular meditation, we generally stick to the alpha sleep range. After a couple of sleep cycles, we can move our meditative state into the delta/Theta range. That's when the body goes to sleep.

I'd say that if you get 7 or 8 hours of sleep on average, the time to best practice is about 3 hours before you would normally wake up for the day. Whatever time that is, That is your witching hour. That is your best time to practice. Phase 1 will not include waking t 3am. (Or whatever time your witching hour is)

You can, of course, do these practices at your leisure. If you have a day where you take a nap, it is good to practice OBE afterwards. Let your body and mind go through a couple of sleep cycles, then practice is more natural. That's the idea...

    Jake,
What are your thoughts on using "binaural beats" along with meditation to help induce the appropriate brainwave state? Is that something you have ever looked into?
Interestingly enough. Robert Bruce, fellow travelers and OBE pioneer, originally developed hemispheric synchronization to get folks to sleep faster so that they could learn in their sleep. Not long after they started experimenting with sound and vibration, Robert started having OBEs. He never asked for it. Lol...

We will discuss it a bit. If it a solid tool, we'll put it in the toolkit. I'm definitely not against it. Most OBE or astral projection workshops will include binaural beats and hemi/sync.

I used to project regularly until years ago. I also used the the Wake-back-to-bed method after 3-4 hours of sleep, which was not always at 3 am straight, I was more flexible then with the time. Also did lots of energy work back then (Robert Bruce style).

Strongest phase with lots of OBEs was 2009-2013 or so. Like Gracy May's experience, for me it wore off after a while and got weaker with few and fewer successful experiences. Now it is down to once per month ... if I'm lucky.

I will follow your thread and course with high interest. Cannot say if I will actively participate then, but I still try projections sometimes at night (Wb2b style), so maybe I will take part or sometimes contribute with some comments from my past experiences if sth fits a common pattern. (I am or used to be on OBE forums and still love writing and reading about it!).

Good luck with your course, Jake!
Wake then back to bed... Yep that's it. I Call it 'Waking and Drifting' .. And it's part of the skillset we try and develop. WB2B... I love it.

    Count me in Jake.

Sleep paralysis used to be a common experience decades ago. As I remember, it was interesting, not a fearful experience. Last time it happened, I got this message "Blow on your shoulder and paralysis will be gone." I did and it worked immediately.

Flying dreams may be related to OBE but maybe not always. Love them.

Only had one lucid dream and that was fun. I wanted to experiment by driving the car parked in the driveway. My hand passed through the emergency brake release and I could not move the car.

My only experience of the vibrational state happened during a dream. That was decades ago before I knew anything about OBE. I was very excited in a positive way and wanted to go go go. I thought it was ascension. But suddenly the experience ended. No fear but a little disappointment with the ending.
Hey, Ron. Phase 1deals a lot with sleep cycles, dreaming, and dream cycles. We do a routine just before going to sleep. Then we do it lightly each time we wake up. We pay particular attention to our dreams as we wake up, and write them down in our journals. In doing so, we widen the gap between sleep and awake, and condition our waking minds to remember our dreams. This creates a habit of remembering that will become important when we get oot-n-aboot. Many OBEs will be remembered as a dream because we are re-entering through the dreaming state. Which is perfectly fine. Inasmuch, we can project out of our bodies from inside a dream.

Energy work is my dream key. (A symbol or some key that helps you to KNOW that you are dreaming) If I do energy work, even accidentally, in a dream,,, I will launch into an astral projection. The only real problem being retaining the memory.

I've always loved dream work and lucid dreaming. Many dreams for me are lessons from higher self.

I already counted you in, Ron. Lol...

Jake, is astral projection the same as OBE, or is one a subset of the other?
I have the idea that OBE can take one to more than the astral plane.

So, when I say OBE, that is the fully conscious real-time projection. Where you are a phantom or ghost, unseen in the real world at the real time. An example would be getting out of body, walking around the house, flying around the neighborhood, etc... An Astral Projection is more etheric and abstract. Astral projections are when you are out of your body and sojourn into realms of more thought and/or energy,,, less BODY and MIND more SPIRIT. There are fewer boundaries in astral realms, and we tend to get lost out there. Robert Monroe called the Out-of-body realm the "Earth life belief system territories." Anything beyond that is Astral territory. I hope I'm making sense...

I really like your distinction here because I share it. Many people I met online always say that OBE and AP are actually exactly the same but I would see it like you do. OBE is a projection to the 'real time zone' as Robert Bruce calls it (meaning the physical as we know it or at least an energetic copy of it) and AP is, well, ... 'any other realm'.

Oh, yes indeed. I meant Robert Monroe. Good call. Robert Bruce is an entirely different fellow. Please forgive me. A truly open minded dude would do that. Lol...

Robert MONROE was an audio engineer, working in radio around the time that television was taking over. Instead of going into TV, he decided to try and develop a method to learn more effectively while sleeping. The challenge was to find a way to get folks to go to sleep faster. The different tones played in the different ears causes the brain to create a 'ckear tone', the clear tone is the two hemispheres of the brain synchronizing.

Go ahead and nitpick. (I may need the help) lol...

    Good looking out...

Jake, I am also very interested!!! I don't know if I can make this Sunday because I am in a motel with friend, but will try.

BTW, 3 am is also known as "Satanic Midnight" so I will have a little extra protection around me if I am going to leave my body.

Jake, I am also very interested!!! I don't know if I can make this Sunday because I am in a motel with friend, but will try.

BTW, 3 am is also known as "Satanic Midnight" so I will have a little extra protection around me if I am going to leave my body.
It's fine if you can't make a strict schedule. I could present the entire course in about 2 weeks if we were all together, training. Since this is a forum style project, I stretch a normal day across 2 or 3 days, to allow for discussion and reflection. You can always catch up if needed.

Phase 1 will be theory and conditioning. Phase 2 will be practice and focus. And of course, any extra protection is welcome.

The 3am hour, or witching hour, or devil's hour,etc... We all know what it feels like at this hour. It's the 'heebeejeebee' hour. It's spooky and silent and electrical and it feels,,, different.

Depending on the time period, one is surely considered a witch for practicing Anything not approved by a Church. If I remember right, sometime in the late 1800s, any kind of religious worship or practice was Banned between the hours of 3am and 4am. Damn witches!!!

One reason that the 3am hour is known as the Devil's Hour is that it is SUPPOSED that Jesus was crucified at 3pm. And the inverse/anti-christ is 3am...

    Ahem...

    Maybe.

I tend to think that it is more about biology and physics and sleep cycles... And the simple fact that (by one religion or the other) these practices are forbidden...

    Tsk tsk tsk....

Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. Yoda....

Jake - this is very generous of you to share your knowledge and your time like this! I first started practicing OBEs 8 or 9 years ago with some success. I did hit some kind of a roadblock 4 or 5 years ago that I haven't been able to fully overcome, though in the last month or so I feel like I have a reawakening of lucid dreaming / OBEs so I'd be happy to take part in your course. 3AM wake up call shouldn't be a problem - some of my most vivid experiences would happen after waking up in the middle the night and going back to "sleep" with a strong intention. I'll never forget the first time I started to experience process leading up to the separation - one of the most profound experiences of my life so I strongly urge anyone who has a little bit of interest in this to take part in this course.

For me the most difficult part is successfully separating my consciousness from my body - it is always a struggle and feels like there is a huge weight on my lower back that keeps my tethered. I've read Monroe's books and Buhlman's books (some great techniques there) and am excited to learn directly from someone who has had so much experience. Count me in!

Just to chime in a little, the particular hours aren't important to your experience or routine, it's to do with your sleep/wake cycles and such. It will work at any time when you can get relaxed and thoughtful about your dreams in times when you are on the line between sleep & awake.
The key it to maintain awareness to be lucid and have active thought inside the dream worlds & "astral".

You have to have time and be comfortable to dream properly. You regular work hours to wake to a clock will never be optimal and having to end your dreams abruptly never works well.

Be aware your day to day thoughts affect your dreams in their entirety in concept & detail, your emotions or issues will present themselves as on cue for your to face your fears.
Any and all fears you have will have to be faced in due time! You can't run from them or you will struggle to ever make any motion of progress.
It's easier to do the mental work in preparation when you are awake to things you might have issues with and think them through on how to handle them or deal with them beforehand you actually might have to face them inside the dream worlds.
I've noted the dream side really is heavy on fear & distractions!
It can be a valuable tool for creativity and explore ideas and concepts. You can really do anything if you set your mind to do it but you might encounter some struggles as you deal with your issues and problems you might have in your mentality.
It takes analysis and psychology & patience to work through many issues. But as soon as you start to stop fearing the world it becomes so much more pleasant in it's entirety.
Your emotions play a central part on the focus of the content you experience. Are you loving? Are you hateful? Are you afraid? Want to compete? Need to fight something? Protect something? Such things will take a central role in the stories you are involved with.

Many dreams are just stories & concepts. You can watch a many movies in there if you want and find them interesting. Be a character yourself in this story that is whatever it might be.
It's often to distract your from your awareness. You need to work on your mindfulness to get out from the menial stories and settings everyday.
If you have a passion like music/art/games etc you can play with it often to further that aspect of yourself but it can get a little tiring if you can't get out from it when you want to explore other things.

There are worlds & people involved as you wander about. If you are inside one of your own stories/world you have central command of it when you might want to exert that control.
Make a command, create something from your mind, it will become real. Not happy about the "enemies" in a story? Just demand them to be friendly or vanish in entirety. You are the controller and it's your responsibility to have a good or bad experience from this setting. Though if people are involved that are not "part of you" your control will be diminished to the level of awareness and belief in yourself to take charge.
Basically if you believe yourself you will have it, if you don't believe yourself then you will not have it.
Two minds can exert their will on the content as far as they vie for authority & subordination. It can be a little challenging to have these mental battles when they aren't working towards your interests. Distractions & tactics to diminish your mentality to go with the flow is often exerted. People don't like you being aware and in charge of every story.
Often tiring to do mental battles, you might wake up more often than you prefer doing them.
Entities are not always too keen to have you aware.

You are not the central pillar of authority in all occasions. There is someone doing the prep & work for many things. There isn't a concept of time either. You can jump about if you want. But the central theory is worked around stories & events.
If you start to ignore the story and wander off course new stories & events will be made to fit the picture. You might not always escape the central story in one go but you might alter the course of things in it's entirety or escape to another place.

As you wander about you might enter other peoples dreams & stories in passing or observing. You might enter at any point that might be of your interest but you central beliefs dictate the discourse of options available.
You must be in general of the "same mind" to be allowed to interact. You stories might be allowable to be intertwined. Can't have to much chaos going on. There are rules and regulations in place to not cause too much bad will unless it's part of the experience your needing to see.

People aren't always responding, they might not even note you are there until you take some action to make your presence known. They are in their own mind and not paying attention to their surroundings. Many a people can observe and have no part of any story. You might have curiosities & they do to.

"The Demons".... are a laugh, you Christians & other fundamentalists are too narrow. Sure if you let fear be the dictator you will be struggling but the moment it's off it's gone. Laugh it off, basically. Do not let it control you.

There are many a tip & hints to be shared but here was just a sample I felt like to throw out at the moment as a caution.

If you encounter your dream guide or something beware they might not always be what they say they are. I've seen a little too many inconsistencies with regard to these for them to be taken seriously.
You do not always meet intelligence and actual people other than a "character" of a story that is rigid and stale in it's concepts.

The true guides/guardians stay out of sight out of mind in the background and aren't in most cases interfering in your dreams unless you take a step to step outside it's bounds. They might "reset" the dream if it was a test or something, I really dislike these events. I recall a time a dream was reset 3-5times when I went and about to ignore the content for I wanted to do something else entirely in a moment of half lucidity.
The guides might not like you to dream "too much" and wake you up for whatever reason. If you force your way back inside they might just cause it, if you manage to re-enter the story/dream to become overly hostile & unpleasant. Not the happy people you might expect. Gets a little out of hand if you fight them too much.

When you increase your awareness and start to exert your control not all events will play out for you well. Too many a time I recall unpleasant experiences but it's more of a nuisance than anything when you have set goals in mind.
The other side has no schedule & time so they will ignore your personal achievement lists.

Warnings & predictions are possible. You will explore what interests you. If they come from such you might get some time to time. Predictions are more for your surroundings and you don't get whatever possible, might be more wide-field if you get more proficient but it's not something useful unless as a warning or heads up or something relevant to your life.
Do not confuse the event exploration of "possibilities" as prediction though. And warnings can be exaggerated and blown out of proportion. So do not run with the news unless you want to make a fool of yourself.

There is a fine line between a dream & astral travel. I see them as no different, same thing in the end. Your awareness dictates which it is most of the time.
You become lucid & take charge to do and explore what you consciously want it's more possible to end up in the astral sides but your personal space is the one where most people are intertwined inside most of the time as I see it.
People don't go outside their dream bubbles. You dream might fake itself as astral travel.

Wow, Jake, that is a very generous offer and I would love to participate.
I'll just have to check at what time it is in my time zone.
    Count me in.

After having read the complete thread I now realize the time difference won't really matter. Everyone is supposed to do it at their own 3 a.m., right?

Hi Jake. Thankyou for the offer. I'm in and looking forward to it.

Since my early teens I have regularly had OBEs and for awhile played with what I could do with them. More often than not it would come with an intense and crushing energy and pressure in my head. As I learnt it was nothing to fear I found I could direct it into the experience. And even then, old friend fear would come into play again here and there and limit my experiences. A good training ground for the physical I guess.

I haven't explored the experiences much lately and am very keen to get involved in your course and see what I can learn.

    Thankyou for the opportunity.
